At present, numerous environmental researchers are warning of future resource shortages. The list of them is large and includes water, oil, a variety of minerals and metals, as well as other materials.
Yet, most people carry on as if they do not hear the message at all. They refuse to cut back in their dreams of continuing economic growth.
In relation, part of the problem with them is perhaps an inability to make connections. For the most part, they seem to have little or no idea about the collective consequences of their individual behaviors.

The attempted assassination of Representative Gabrielle Giffords raises the bar for political lies and hate to a new level. Previously, incendiary political lies stopped just short violent imagery. Sarah Palin's Take Back 20 campaign presented a violent threat in the form of rifle site crosshairs placed over the congressional districts of 20 Democratic supporters of health care reform.
Ironically, Giffords sent Palin a clear message to end the violent allusion in the ads. In this brief video, she warns:
"… we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list but the thing is that the way she's had it depicted has the cross hairs of a gun site over our district. When people do that, they've got to realize that there [are] consequences to that action." Rep. Giffords

The American dream based on unrelenting consumption fueled by technological progress and economic growth must eventually die.
The U.S. economy has been untenable in this regard since at least 1980 and may soon be forced to shut down.
Even the people who have jobs are scared, and scared people don't shop. And the ones who don't have a job and are scared for sure don't shop. A quarter-century of economic growth has been wiped out worldwide in just a matter of months.
Vice President-elect Joe Biden is worried, and Obama himself refers to the current crisis as “the greatest economic challenge of our lifetime.” [1]
The world is engulfed in a global economic crisis of staggering ferocity.
Making matters worse, a government "by and for" the American people may not be prepared for the social dislocation, economic despair and breakdown in law and order that is likely to ensue.
