Media React to Trump’s Economic Proposal

August 10th, 2016

The Wall Street Journal’s deputy editorial page editor Dan Henninger loved it “on balance,” he said. More on his comments below.

The one-sidedly pro-Clinton/anti-Trump media resoundingly turned thumbs down - notably The New York Times and Washington Post.

According to Henninger, Trump addressed public angst over deplorable (Main Street) economic conditions, and the “60 - 70% of the American people think(ing) the country is on the wrong track.”

“I think this was the first important step in a big uphill comeback for Donald Trump,” he said. “The question now is whether he will stay on message, whether he can go around the country basically repeating this message, giving people some hope and some details of his economic plan... These are things that will appeal to families, to small businessmen and to corporate types.”

New York Times editors criticize whatever Trump does or doesn’t do. Unsurprisingly, they blasted his economic address - saying his proposals “would hurt the economy, rack up huge deficits, accelerate climate change and leave the country isolated from the world.”

The above criticism and more added read more like seven-and-a-half deplorable years under Obama - looting the Treasury and wrecking the economy to benefit Wall Street, war profiteers and other corporate predators at the expense of tens of millions of Americans suffering more than at any time since The Great Depression.

Trump offers plenty for corporate America and its super-rich - policies much like what Obama, George Bush and Bill Clinton pursued since January 1993, with wholehearted Times support.

One major economic difference separates him from the three most recent administrations. Rhetorically he opposes hugely unfair, rapacious trade deals like NAFTA and TPP. Whether so if elected president is another matter entirely.

Washington Post editors said his “economic plan ignores the Americans he claims to speak for.” They’re right except for his opposition to anti-consumer trade deals and offshoring millions of jobs to low-wage countries.

They said he “embrace(d) the worst of traditional Republican doctrine while repudiating the best of it” - supporting tax cuts for the rich and opposing trade deals, his message “held together by smoke, mirrors and scapegoating.”

Ignore what politicians say, notably when trying to win votes. What they do in office alone matters.

For the last generation, America became unfit and unsafe to live in. Never ideal before, social justice is fast disappearing.

Militarism and belligerence are at frightening levels while police state injustice targets nonbelievers.

America’s resources increasingly go for endless wars of aggression, corporate handouts, and other benefits solely for the nation’s privileged.

Elections are farcical when held, democracy pure fantasy, power brokers deciding things, voters having no say whatever.

Revolutionary change is urgently needed. Either that or we’re all doomed.
