Extending the War In Afghanistan

February 20th, 2009

Colonel Ghulam Sarwar (RET)

The new American government's attitude is shocking and very disappointing, because as it reaches out its hand of friendship to the Muslim world, it also talks about extending the war on terror in Afghanistan, making it the longest war ever fought in American history.

9/11 will be always remembered because it caused the whole world to be ablaze with peace and harmony, uniting against terror. With the passage of the time, these flames are getting hotter, and the saddest part of it is that the innocent Afghan people are being punished for a crime they did not commit. The poor citizens of that country are being recklessly attacked with bombs, making every street and market of full of blood, as if the lives of these poor innocent citizens are worthless.

The behavior of the attacking countries, which boast of their adherence to human rights, is so shocking that they practically seem to be monsters. It would not be irrelevant to draw the attention of the reader to the fact that on 9/11 the entire security system of America apparently collapsed for some time. Even more surprising was the attitude of the American government in dealing with the failure of the American security system, as not a single concerned official was punished for their negligence. This delinquent negligence of the American government on such an important issue supports the theory that American agencies were involved in the 9/11 attacks and that the whole thing was part of a well-planned conspiracy.

In fact, the main purpose of this deadly drama put on by America was to clear the way for the U.S. to have access to Caspian oil by attacking Afghanistan. America, along with its coalition forces, invaded Afghanistan for this purpose. The courageous Afghan people have been continuously attacked by the coalition forces from forty western countries for the last seven years, which has exhausted and terrified them. Despite this, America hasn’t taken any lessons from history and is setting new records of cruelty in the world by their obstinacy in this matter.

The new American government's attitude is shocking and very disappointing because, as it reaches out its hand of friendship to the Muslim world, it also talks about extending the war on terror in Afghanistan, making it the longest war ever fought in American history.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, we confess with great pain that in the war against terrorism, which America started and we supported completely, we (Pakistan) have lost more than we gained. For now, even our beloved country (Pakistan) is under attack from American drones. Orders are being given by the new American president to continue the drone attacks in the future as well.

The result of Pakistan’s absolute support of America and its war against terrorism is that, despite the thousands of Pakistani military personnel already lost, America is attacking our own land and our Pakistani leadership doesn’t even have the guts to speak to America on the subject.

American secretary of defense, Robert Gates, gave us (Pakistan) a glimpse of the dangers that we may face in the coming days. Recently, Mr. Gates said that America will face a long war in Afghanistan. How long will the war be? The special ambassador appointed to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Mr. Richard Holbrooke, has already told us:

“As the war enters its eighth year, Americans should be told the truth: it will last a long time — longer than the United States’ longest war to date, the 14-year conflict (1961-75) in Vietnam.”

Commenting on Richard Holbrooke’s statement, American analyst Justin Raimondo writes:

“If Holbrooke is right and we are headed for a major war that will make Iraq pale in comparison, then he may be wrong about how long it'll last. Because the war he envisions will amount to a final spasm of unrestrained violence, a wholly destructive – and futile – assertion of our rapidly failing imperial pretensions. Longer than Vietnam? I give it five years, at the most, at the end of which we'll be licking our wounds and frantically signaling an ‘exit strategy.’”

Now, the question arises: Why are American rulers expressing such “war-mania” against Afghanistan?

The answer to this question was mentioned at the beginning of this article:

The real purpose for this war is to have access to the rich oil and gas resources that exist in the Caspian region. And so, despite seven years of failure, American leaders and capitalists are restless; they want these rich resources, and to ensure success they are investing all of their energy in this war.

Because of this attitude from American leaders, the world is becoming more and more insecure by the day. In this regard, it is the responsibility of all the nations of the world to stop America from adopting this policy of devastation and to strive to prevent America from extending the hostility against Afghanistan. The nations of the world should also reinvestigate the 9/11 attacks, so that the world will know the real purpose America has for attacking Afghanistan and make America stop the war against Afghanistan.

Now, the time has come for all mankind to support this demand and strive hard to stop America and its “war-mania.” It is time to save the world from further devastation.
