Victims of Sexual Abuse by Clergy Seek Justice at the International Criminal Court

September 15th, 2011

from: Bill Hughes<

Pope Benedict XVI and three other high-ranking Vatican officials were named as defendants in a Complaint filed on September 13, 2011, with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Amsterdam. The unprecedented action was initiated by the victims of sexual abuse by the clergy. They charged the Vatican officials with covering up and "allowing the rape, sexual violence, and torture" of children. They want the Court to investigate the matter, which they say amounts to "crimes against humanity." On September 14, 2011, the "Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests," (SNAP), held a press conference in Baltimore, MD, in front of the Roman Catholic archdiocese's headquarters, at Mulberry and Cathedral Streets. SNAP's Director, David Lorenz, shared his views on the case.
