The Ultimate October Surprise

July 30th, 2009

Executive Intelligence Review

Lyndon LaRouche has issued a pointed warning: The final collapse of the entire global financial system is just months away, and the window is rapidly closing on the last, best opportunity to avert a global plunge into a Dark Age that will make Europe's plunge in the 14th Century seem mild by comparison.

By LaRouche's estimate, as things stand now, the close of the fiscal year, on Sept. 30, will mark the onset of a full-scale financial crash, by no later than mid-October, once the year-end figures have been presented, and the panic sets in. LaRouche has never been wrong in any of his long-range forecasts, and the last time he gave such a precise date for a financial shock, was in the Summer of 1987, when he warned that the financial bubble was going to burst sometime in October. He was right then, and he is right today.

ELIMINATE THE FED THROUGH TRANSPARENCY AND OVERSIGHT

July 30th, 2009

Allen L Roland

Like a rabid spider the Federal Reserve has trapped the economy is its secretive web of deceit and manipulation. The only way to eliminate the Fed, or what Eliot Spitzer calls 'America's biggest Ponzi scheme', is through transparency and Congressional oversight:

The Federal Reserve is the least trusted of all government-related agencies, a new Gallup poll finds. Only 30 percent of those polled said the Fed was doing a “good” or “excellent” job, leaving it at the bottom of a list of nine agencies included in the poll. This is for good reason ~ the secretive Fed exists only to serve Wall Street's banking elite while Main Street is continually bound and blinded by its policies.

The Day the President Turned Black, But has he turned back?

July 30th, 2009

By Greg Palast

He's in hot water now. For a moment, on national television, the President of the United States turned black!

Last week, when his buddy "Skip" Gates got busted for being Black in Boston, Barack Obama forgot his official role: to soothe America's conscience with the happy fairy tale that his election marked the end of racism in the USA.

Instead, Obama, the excruciatingly middle-of-the-road President, was seized by Barack the militant State Senator from the South Side of Chicago, who reminded us that cops bust Black guys for no goddamn good reason all the goddamn time.

Taking over post-Arnold California

July 29th, 2009

Mickey Z. interviews Richard Oxman

What do you think of Obama's reaction to the Gates incident? Who killed Michael Jackson? Why did Palin resign? Why are 90% of the large fish in the ocean gone? Which question doesn't belong?

California-based organizer, educator, activist-writer, and playwright (and, oh yes, home schooling father and devoted spouse) Richard Oxman knows the answer. He's more than aware that our current system our very culture is designed to shove the "big" questions to the fringes. This is why Oxman has conjured up a unique form of dissent: TOSCA - Taking Over the State of California.

ENOUGH HAPPY TALK

July 29th, 2009

By Martha Ireland

A recent article, "Happiness Consultants Won't Stop A Depression" by Chris Hedges really hit home for me.

I live with a man who wants to believe that if you put a "positive" spin on something, that something will magically become truly positive.

This sort of crazy culturally induced wishful, magical, narcissistic, childish, cowardly thinking and intellectual, psychological & spiritual laziness makes me absolutely insane.

OF ELEPHANTS AND BLUE DOGS

July 29th, 2009

by Mary Pitt

While the Congressional "elephants" are straining at the gnat of Obama's health care plan, the Blue Dogs are busily gorging on the poisonous fat being spread before them by the voracious and monopolistic insurance and pharmaceutical companies, the citizens for whom they were chosen to protect are continuing to be victimized and destroyed. The handwriting is on the wall to tell us that nothing good is going to come of the enthusiasm with which the American people voted for the longed-for "change".

Neither of these mythical creatures sounded an alarm about the trillions of American dollars that were simply strewn to the wind in the misguided effort to "bring democracy to Iraq". There was then no outcry about the state of the national debt, no discussion of deficit financing, only great glee at the prospect of all the pork that would be rained upon their constituents and campaign donors. There was no mention of anything resembling a budget. It was all "off-budget appropriations" in the interest of "national security" Why? Because Bush, Cheney, and Company said it was necessary!

Do you deserve to die?

Do your friends and family?

The Forgotten Question in the Health Care Debate

Michael Collins

Scenario 1: You've just been diagnosed with a cancer of the lymphatic system. You're told that it requires a procedure within the next two weeks. Unfortunately, you were laid off from your corporate job 11 months, 30 days ago. You are on your last day of COBRA. Your company retirement and savings are all gone. You can't afford the $1,200 a month premium needed to continue your coverage. Without the operation, you will die. Do you deserve to die?

Scenario 2: Your spouse has a long history of illness. Then you discover she has a virulent infection that, if untreated, threatens to disable her to the point where she's immobile and requires 'round the clock medical care. You work for yourself. While you have catastrophic health insurance, it doesn't cover the needed treatment nor does it provide for nursing care. Does your wife deserve to experience this untreated sickness and suffering until her premature death?

Conspiracies involve lower officials

July 28th, 2009

Karin Friedemann

Many blame Ashcroft, Cheney, and Bush for ongoing campaigns against activists, politicians and organizations that try to help Arabs and Muslims.

Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner, a long time Palestinian rights advocate, told supporters that he believes former US Attorney General John Ashcroft personally orchestrated a sting operation to remove him from office. As in previous cases, strategic “media update sessions” put the media into a predatory frenzy before the accused even went to trial. Media accusations often do not even coincide with the actual charges.

Lou Dobbs undermines CNN's credibility

July 28th, 2009

Mary Shaw

With Fox News tilted firmly to the right and MSNBC leaning more and more to the left, CNN is commonly regarded as the more moderate, more balanced cable news alternative.

And that generally seems to be the case, with a couple of exceptions, the most glaring of which is Lou Dobbs.

In recent years, Dobbs gained notoriety for his loud opposition to U.S. immigration policy, especially where brown-skinned people are concerned.

But now Dobbs is sinking even further into Wingnutland.
