Mumbai’s night of terror has stretched on well into the afternoon of the following day, and India’s economic center remains under siege. Gunmen remain at large, battles are still ongoing at the city’s two major five star hotels (the Oberoi and the Taj), and as many as 50 hostages are reportedly still in the hands of attackers. Commandos in the hotel have reportedly encountered “stiff resistance” from the heavily armed militants.

Pakistan Daily published a list of Iraqi academics assassinated in Iraq during the US-led occupation. This is a particularly meaningful aspect of the Iraq genocide, the extermination of its intellectual classes. It wasn't enough to invade and occupy what was once the most advanced country in the Middle East and destroy its economy. Iraq had to be obliterated, its history re-written and its future denied.

Revelations by ABC News that the National Security Agency (NSA) kept an intercept file on former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, including information on his “private life,” has sent shock waves through the British and American intelligence communities. ABC News reported that files on Blair’s communications were maintained in a NSA database code-named “Anchory” and was accessible from the NSA regional signals intelligence site at Fort Gordon, Georgia, known as “NSA Georgia.” The facility focuses on intercepting communications in Europe and the Middle East.

The President of the United Nations General Assembly today called for international sanctions to be imposed on the state of Israel. Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann said that the international community should engage in a 'boycott, divestment and sanctions' campaign against Israel, similar to those enacted against South Africa two decades ago." Israel has engaged in a military occupation of the Palestinian territories since 1967, with an increase in military presence since the year 2000.

The latest figures have revealed that the US government is ready to inject up to USD 7 trillion of taxpayer money into the slumping economy. According to a chart published on Wednesday the US Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) are collectively committing over USD 7 trillion in aid to ailing financial institutions.
