NYT War on Venezuela

August 29th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

The Times and other media scoundrels waged managed news disinformation war on Venezuela since Hugo Chavez’s December 1998 landslide presidential victory.

They support monied interests, deplore popular ones, are disgracefully hostile to Bolivarian social democracy - polar opposite how America and other Western societies are run, serving privileged interests exclusively.

Chavez was repeatedly accused of being a strongman, populist demagogue and dictator, President Maduro vilified the same way.

Kushner/Netanyahu Meeting

August 29th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

Prospects for resolving decades of Israeli/Palestinian conflict are nil - because Washington and Tel Aviv reject an equitable solution.

Peace and stability defeat their agenda. Endless violence and confrontation further it. Neither country negotiates. They demand.

Trump’s Zionist son-in-law/senior advisor/geopolitical know-nothing is back in Israel.

He arrived along with Zionist administration international negotiator Jason Greenblat and Deputy National Security Advisor Dina Powell - another futile trip to restart peace talks, dead-on-arrival each time initiated.

Russia’s New Ambassador to Washington

August 29th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

It’s no easy job operating in hostile territory. Longtime diplomat Anatoly Antonov is up to the challenge.

The Kremlin’s web site announced his appointment, saying:

“Vladimir Putin issued an Executive Order appointing Anatoly Antonov Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and, concurrently, Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation at the Organisation of American States in Washington, USA.”Antonov succeeds Sergey Kislyak, his tenure from July 2008 - July 2017. Envoys are tasked with understanding policies of the nations they’re assigned to, including as they unfold daily.

They provide relevant information to their governments back home.

Interfacing with host country officials is part of their job – including diplomats, legislators, and administration officials to the highest levels.

Deplorable US Mainstream Media

August 28th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

Press agent journalism substitutes for the real thing. Truth-telling is a lost art, absent in Western reporting on issues mattering most.

The fourth estate was never more disreputable than now, a shameful disgrace to its profession - featuring disinformation, fake news and advocacy instead of what legitimate journalism is supposed to be.

Trump is wrong on most issues, on the mark about the media’s deplorable state, painful to follow, impossible to know anything about the state of the nation and world by following its reports - red meat for critics like myself to take them to task, the deplorable NYT my favorite target.

Defending itself from justifiable criticism, arguments by the Times ring hollow.

Claiming its columnists, correspondents and editors are journalists, not Trump’s enemies, is utter rubbish.

NPR Disinformation on Venezuela

August 28th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

National Public Radio (NPR) operates like other media scoundrels - reporting disinformation, Big Lies and fake news on major issues, suppressing or sanitizing what listeners most need to know.

Corporate funders demand no less. So do dark forces in Washington.

NPR long ago betrayed the public trust. Established in 1971, it promised to be an alternative to commercial media, “promoting personal growth rather than corporate gain…speak(ing) with many voices, many dialects.”

Instead it’s a voice for wealth, power and privilege, polar opposite its public pledge.

New North Korea Missile Tests

August 27th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

Likely in response to provocative joint US/South Korean military exercises, continuing through August 31, the DPRK test-fired three short-range missiles - the first tests in nearly a month.

Two reportedly flew about 250 km before splashing down in the Sea of Japan harmlessly at about 6:49 AM local time Saturday.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the third exploded shortly after launch. A White House statement said Trump was “briefed and we are monitoring the situation.”

None of the missiles threatened another nation. South Korea’s Defense Ministry said it’s “keeping a tight surveillance over the North to cope with further provocations.”

Japan “confirmed that no ballistic missiles have fallen onto our country’s territory or” exclusive economic zone - “no direct impact on (the) country’s security.”

Last week in Tokyo, Joint Chiefs Chairman General Joseph Dunford warned North Korea “that an attack on Japan is an attack on” America.

Tough New Illegal US Sanctions on Venezuela

August 27th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

On Friday, the Trump administration escalated economic war on Venezuelan sovereign independence.

Since established in 1999, the nation’s Bolivarian social democracy was targeted for elimination. Washington wants fascist tyranny replacing it.

The geopolitical prize is gaining control of Venezuela’s huge oil resources, the world’s largest - the Trump administration waging political, economic and resource war to achieve its objective, maybe military intervention if current tactics fail.

Jeremy Corbyn on Venezuela

August 26th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

Corbyn is a longtime champion of progressive politics, opposing dirty business as usual.

He wants humanity saved from the scourge of endless wars, urges challenging US-dominated NATO, backs nuclear disarmament, advocates social justice, and supports progressive movements in Latin America.

Earlier he called for ending US sanctions on Venezuela, stressing Latin America needs “solidarity…not dependence on the USA,” warning about Washington’s disturbing interference in the affairs of other countries.

“We send our message of solidarity all around the world to those who are going through difficult times,” including throughout Latin America, he said.

“We send them a message of support and solidarity, the march for social justice, the march for equality will continue, and will not be halted by anybody else.”

She’s Back: Hillary Blames Everyone But Herself

August 26th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

She never went away, hanging around like a bad aftertaste.

Her new book due out in September is titled “What Happened” - well known to everyone paying attention.

Why she lost to Trump is absent from its pages, fabricated reasons substituting, blaming everyone but herself - the most ruthlessly dangerous presidential aspirant in US history, a war goddess, Wall Street tool, RICO-level crook, partnered with husband Bill, a crime family since their Arkansas days.

It’s unclear what she was paid for her book. Earlier publisher deals were multi-million dollar ones. In 2000, she left the White House with a $4 million dollar advance on a new book, titled

“Hard Choices,” her contract guaranteeing $8 million for worthless rubbish.

At the same time, husband Bill got almost double for his book, a deal worth $15 million.

Hillary’s new book blames Russia and James Comey for losing to Trump, along with sexism, misogyny, and everyone assuming she’d win.

New US Sanctions on China and Russia

August 25th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

Unilaterally imposed sanctions on any countries for any reasons are flagrantly illegal.

They’re hostile to international relations. They’re how hegemons operate - extrajudicially by their own rules alone.

On Tuesday, 16 Chinese and Russian entities and individuals were targeted, along with two Singapore-based companies for alleged involvement in trade with North Korea, sanctions expanded to include oil - what Security Council members excluded from their August 5 action.

Attempting to justify the unjustifiable, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said “(i)t is unacceptable for individuals and companies in China, Russia, and elsewhere to enable North Korea to generate income used to develop weapons of mass destruction and destabilize the region.”
