Obama's World: Peace a Convenient Illusion

August 30th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Peace and stability defeat Obama's agenda. Violence, instability and permanent wars further it. They persist nonstop.

New wars follow earlier ones. Some never end. Afghanistan is America's longest war. It's continued longer than WW I and II combined.

It shows no signs of ending. It could last another decade or longer. Wherever America shows up, mass killing and destruction follow. Occupations are permanent.

America's empire of bases supports them. They're in 150 or more countries. Secret ones add to known numbers. They reflect neocolonialism writ large.

During WW II, Brits complained. They said US forces were "overpaid, overfed, oversexed, and over here." They called them America's "occupation."

It's footprint remains. It's belligerent. US bases are global platforms for war. Americans believe common myths. They think foreign bases further peace.

Obama's War on Syria Based on Lies

August 29th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

All wars are based on lies. Claims about Syrian forces using chemical weapons are false. They're malicious.

They're bald-faced lies. They're repeated anyway. John Kerry wrongfully accused Syria of using chemical weapons.

It's "undeniable," he claimed. It's "a moral obscenity." He'll provide evidence, he said. He has none. It's invented. Don't expect him to explain.

Vice president Biden lied, saying:

"There is no doubt who is responsible for this heinous use of chemical weapons, the Syrian regime."

"Chemical weapons have been used. Everyone acknowledges their use."

"No one doubts that innocent men, women and children have been the victims of chemical weapons attacks in Syria."

The Obama Regime’s Military Metaphysics Rejects Diplomatic Opportunities

August 29th, 2013

James Petras

Introduction

Political and economic changes in recent years have opened possibilities for the end of international and national conflicts. Regime changes, pragmatic leaders and the promise of serious negotiations in the Middle East, North Africa, Russia, Southwest Asia, China and elsewhere provided the Obama regime an opportunity to end long standing and costly wars, to access new markets and resources and to reduce domestic deficits and external trade imbalances.

At every opportunity, with precise consistency, the Obama regime rejected fresh overtures from adversaries, choosing instead to rely on a now discredited “double discourse”, of talking peace and engaging in war, of talking trade and increasing sanctions and of talking about ‘greater Asian engagement’ while fomenting economic pacts which exclude the second biggest economy in the world.

Obama's Cruise Missile Diplomacy

August 29th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Settling things through the barrel of a gun reflects longstanding US policy. Shoot first, ask questions later defines it.

Invented pretexts initiate conflicts. Defending the indefensible repeats with disturbing regularity.

Obama's the latest in a long line warrior presidents. Imperial lawlessness defines his agenda. One war after another rages. No end in sight looms.

War is glorified in the name of peace. It's been that way from inception. Violence is a way of life. Pacifism is considered sissy and unpatriotic.

Don’t you dare criticize Barack Obama—after all he’s ‘black’

August 29th, 2013

By Larry Pinkney

“I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it’s for or against. I’m a human being first and foremost, and as such I am for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.”—Malcolm X [el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz]

“What better way to enslave a man than to give him the vote and tell him he’s free.”—Albert Camus

The very fact that those who lodge legitimate and strong criticism of drone man, ‘kill list,’ NSA/CIA/FBI/DEA spy master Barack Obama are labeled as being racist is, in itself, perhaps the strongest indicator of just how deeply embedded hypocrisy and racism continue to be in U.S. society.

Israel Attacks Palestinians During Peace Talks

August 29th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Doing so exposes the sham process. So do many other similar incidents. Daily violence persists. Dozens of weekly incursions terrorize Palestinian communities.

Violence and arrests follow. So do detentions, interrogations and torture. Israel's no peace partner. Palestinians don't have one. They never did. For sure they don't now.

On August 28, Maan News headlined "Israeli forces kill 3 Palestinians in Qalandia camp," saying:

Undercover Israeli forces bear full responsibility. They wore civilian clothes. They acted provocatively.

  • "Robin al-Abed, 32, was shot in the chest." He died instantly.

  • "Younis Jihad Abu al-Sheikh Jahjouh, 22, was also shot dead."

  • "Jihad Asslan, 20, died Monday morning." Ramallah Hospital officials pronounced him brain dead.

The Middle East is on a hot tin!

August 28th, 2013

Dr Salim Nazzal

Recent news indicates that the U.S is planning to launch a strike against selective targets in Syria. Its raison d'être is the Syrian regime's responsibility about the deadly gas attack in the outskirts of Damascus. However it is not clear yet if the Us waits until it gets international support, or it will strike without it.

Yet the fact is that until this moment nothing is determined about the nature of the mass destruction arms which killed hundred of Syrian civilians.

The Syrian regime denies the allegation of its responsibility, and Russia says its satellite determined that the deadliest weapons came from areas controlled by the radical opposition.

The Subterfuge of Syrian Chemical Weapons

August 28th, 2013

By Nicola Nasser*

The U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on this August 26 removed the sword of the alleged Syrian chemical weapons from its sheath and let the snow ball of this subterfuge for a military aggression on Syria roll unchecked, raising the stakes from asking whether “it will happen” to “when” it will happen, promising that President Barak Obama “will be making an informed decision about how” to take on Syria and warning not to make a “mistake” because Obama “believes there must be accountability,” making clear that a U.S. – led military action is in the making and imminent.

A 20 – member UN independent commission of inquiry, headed by UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Angela Kane, and led by the Swedish scientist and the veteran “inspector” for the UNSCOM and UNMOVIC inspection regimes in Iraq, Ake Sellstrom, arrived in Damascus on August 24 for a fourteen - day mission to investigate whether or not chemical weapons were used in Syria.

John Kerry's Colin Powell Moment

August 28th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

All wars are based on lies. Truth prevents them from being waged. America hasn't waged a legal one since WW II.

What's now ongoing bears eerie resemblance to events preceding Bush's Iraq war. Waging them requires pretexts to do so.

When none exists, they're invented. Lies substitute for truth. Claims about Syria using chemical weapons don't wash. They repeat with disturbing regularity.

Assad's wrongfully blamed for last Wednesday's Ghouta incident. No evidence whatever links it to Syrian forces. Plenty lays blame where it belongs. Insurgents bear full responsibility. It doesn't matter. America's longstanding plans call for regime change. War is the strategy of choice. It's planned. It's coming. It appears imminent.

Cheerleading War

August 28th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

When America goes to war or plans one, media scoundrels march in lockstep. Might justifies right. Imperial priorities are suppressed.

Wars of aggression are called liberating ones. Bombs away is called humanitarian intervention. Nations are destroyed to free them. Plunder is called economic development. So is exploitation.

Unchallenged imperial control is called democracy. Code language conceals real motives. Monied interests alone benefit. They choose US leaders. They decide policy. They have final say.
