The Nation I grew Up in No Longer Exists

September 21st, 2017

Stephen Lendman

America was never beautiful, but the way things were during my early years was world’s different from today’s dismal and hugely dangerous state.

Long ago, I felt safe and secure, unlike today, threatened by bipartisan lunatics in Washington, waging endless wars of aggression, deploring peace and stability, maybe willing to risk destroying planet earth to own it.

As a child and youth, I never feared dreaded nuclear war. Today it’s more likely than not against other nuclear powers threatening no one, standing in the way of America achieving unchallenged dominance, wanting all sovereign independent states eliminated, doing whatever it takes to accomplish this madness, wanting planet earth colonized, controlled and exploited.

America has an obscenely powerful military at a time its only enemies are invented ones, no real ones, none since WW II’s end.

The US public is deplorably ignorant and indifferent to the diabolical agenda of the nation’s leadership - the same under both right wings of its duopoly government, hellbent to rule the world, most Americans none the wiser, brainwashed by political and television talking heads.

During the Cold War years, Washington got along with Soviet Russia, even if uneasily at times. Nixon went to China.

Today relations with both countries are more dismal and dangerous than any previous time, possible nuclear war ominously real by accident or US design.

In my 9th decade, I may never live long enough to witness how things turn out. Will America be consumed by its arrogance and hubris?

Is catastrophic nuclear war inevitable? Will humanity survive or perish?

Current US leadership is megalomaniacal. Bipartisan congressional hawks overwhelm cooler heads. Was evolutionary development over countless millennia all for naught?

Is humanity doomed because of America’s diabolical rage for unlimited wealth and unchallenged dominance? Does mass annihilation await us all?

Today’s deplorable state should scare everyone. The only solution is popular revolution. Nothing else can work.

Elections are farcical when held, a waste of time, always turning out the same way, monied interests and warmakers winning every time, never peace, equity and justice advocates.

The road to hell is paved with ill-intentions, the sinister ones America’s ruling class pursues. If things don’t change, we’re all doomed.
