Muslims need to counter growing Israeli Nazism, West won't do the job for them

October 17th, 2010

by Khalid Amayreh

There should be very little doubt as to the direction toward which Israel is moving. Some Israeli cabinet ministers have already declared openly and in broad daylight that Israel is becoming a fascist state. Well since when was Israel not a fascist state? Hasn't Israel been always a state based on ethnic cleansing, land theft and mass lies?

Last week, the Israeli government approved a bill obliging non-Jews aspiring to obtain the Israeli citizenship to give allegiance to Israel as a Jewish state.

Moreover, the Israeli security forces have been making drills to test their ability to control riots in case the state carries out large-scale ethnic cleansing of the Arab community, which constitutes nearly one fourth of the population.

JFK: His Apotheosis and the Men Who Murdered Him

October 16th, 2010

by Len Hart, The Existentialist Cowboy

His 'presidency' was cut short by murder. Nevertheless, JFK had grown increasingly disillusioned by the CIA and the US Military-Industrial Complex, commonly called the MIC. That JFKs 'awakening' was among the major motives for his murder is the subject of a new book by James Douglass, JFK'S Conversion from War.

JFK won a narrow victory over Nixon, running as a 'Cold Warrior' when everyone, it seems, was a 'cold warrior' by merely living in insane times. Under-repoted is the young President's growing disillusionment following the 'Bay of Pigs' which figures prominently as motive in various 'theories' about his murder.

New Hearing Set for Sami Al-Arian

October 16th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

Earlier articles explained his ordeal, a man Bush administration prosecutors hounded, persecuted, and imprisoned on bogus charges. Articles on him can be accessed through the following links:

Though free on bail, Al-Arian remains politically imprisoned like many hundreds of others behind bars. Because of his faith, ethnicity, prominence and political activism, he was accused of supporting "terrorism" and other outrageous charges.

In fact, he's a Palestinian refugee, a distinguished professor, scholar, community leader, and civil activist, a man deserving honor, not incarceration doing hard time until released after five and half years of brutal treatment, including solitary confinement in rat and roach-infested cells.

Yes indeed, show us all the map!

October 16th, 2010

By Alan Hart

Better late than never, a very senior Palestinian official in Ramallah, Yasser Abed Rabbo, found the right way to challenge Israel and the U.S. As reported by AFP on 13 October, he said, "We officially demand that the US administration and the Israeli government provide a map of the borders of the state of Israel which they want us to recognise."

That’s a completely logical and totally reasonable demand.

IF Israel was interested in peace on terms virtually all Palestinians and most other Arabs and Muslims everywhere could accept, the map provided would show Israel with borders as they were on the eve of the 1967 war. An accompanying note would say that, subject to agreement in final negotiations, Israel seeks minor border adjustments here and there. The note would also propose that Jerusalem should be an open, undivided city and the capital of two states.

The Mammography Controversy: Selling Out Women?

October 16th, 2010

Cam Salis

A Swedish study published this month maintains that mammograms for women in their 40s saves lives. It contradicts numerous studies done over the past 20 years, as well as recommendations from The American College of Physicians in 2007 and from the expert U.S. Preventive Services Task Force in 2009 which concluded that the benefits of mammography screening before age 50 do not outweigh the risks, something that has been widely acknowledged in public health circles since mammography became big business in the late 1980s.

First, the Swedish study. You’d never know it to listen to the TV docs and their cheering section, but the Swedish study has been widely criticized by scientists for its lack of internal consistency. The research group that received mammograms was not similar to the comparison group that did not and also did not weigh risks against benefits. No conclusions of any kind can be drawn from such a hodgepodge.

The Arab People Look for Peace and New Leadership

October 16th, 2010

Mahboob A. Khawaja, Ph.D.

After deliberate absence of any serious efforts for peace-making, the US Obama administration has reconvened the Arab-Israeli peace talk without a defined agenda. It is unusual and strange peace adventure. Previously, Bush administration had claimed a media famed “road map for peace”- a map turned out to be without a road and prospects of peace, hastily agreed upon by the Arab rulers that had no elements of peace. If the parties were serious this time, they should have clarified the peace agenda for result-oriented pursuit. A rational agenda for peace would set the goal to end the Israeli occupation since 1967, stop the Jewish settlements, return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland, security for the two states (Israel and Palestine), and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine. The global politics is changing and most powerful ones determine the fate of the weak nations and deprived people. The Arab states 19 or so lack visionary leadership, unity of purpose and proactive leadership strength to make a difference in competitive global affairs. The Israeli leaders represent their unchanged national interest to hold a position of political strength with continued US support but the Arab rulers live in the past and seem to be indifferent to listening and learning of new leadership traits for the 21st century innovative politics and to engage educated and intelligent people in political discourse and decision making. Nobody knows where would the peace come from and who would deliver to whom? They are all parties to conflict-making and conflict-keeping for their self-interest except the Palestinian people victimized by the global politics of the few.

The Cuban 5: Victims of US State Terrorism

October 15th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

Two web sites, among others, provide information on their case, accessed through the following links:

In September 1998, Miami FBI agents arrested Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzales, and Rene Gonzalez on spurious charges, including conspiracy to commit espionage. For days, however, no formal notification was given until a complicit media campaign smeared them falsely and maliciously.

At a June 2, 2010 Washington National Press Club press conference, the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five's coordinator, Gloria La Riva, announced new Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) obtained evidence revealing names of 14 journalists who "were receiving covertly (paid) monies from the US government."

Haunted by ghosts

October 15th, 2010

By Yaron Frid

Atzmon, Wyatt, and Stephen

Self-proclaimed anti-Israeli saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and prog rock legend Robert Wyatt have joined forces to make musical magic and "political noise"

In 1963 a baby was born in Israel. In 1972 a man fell from the third floor (or the fourth - views are divided ) in England in the middle of the night. Both of them took off on the wings of music, and life would one day organize a surprising encounter between them.

The Ghosts within by Gilad Atzmon

This is a sad story with a jolting soundtrack made of the howl of a saxophone and the wail of a clarinet. It's a story of displaced persons who have no other country, featuring war criminals, Nazi-hunters and God in a cameo role, tempered by large daubs of irony and a few crumbs of hope.

The Case Against Fluoride: Toxifying the Tap

October 14th, 2010

By Rady Ananda

In July of this year, the United Nations declared access to clean water a human right. The United States was among 41 nations that abstained from supporting the resolution. Since October 15th is Blog for Water Day, a close inspection of a common US practice – fluoridating city water supplies – is in order.

The subject of water fluoridation has been controversial for decades, but a new book, The Case Against Fluoride, won the accolades of a Nobel Laureate:

What are Our Alternatives to the Corporate Controlled Political Parties?

October 14th, 2010

By Timothy V. Gatto

Who is Barack Obama and how is he any different than George W. Bush? Tell me, why do so-called “Progressives” continue to support this man and his fascist policies? It is becoming increasingly clear that this President will do nothing to impede the corporate agenda of control over the Federal government that will become the cornerstone of worker repression throughout the country.

1. The loss of public sector jobs was a blatant attempt to break the power of unions in this country. The largest percent of unionization is in the public sector. What is a so-called “progressive” doing, feeding the military on a scale much larger that the Bush Administration, while breaking the backs of the Unions in America? This just illuminates exactly what the Democrats have morphed into. The Republicans under eight years of power haven’t done as much damage to the worker’s movement than Obama has managed to do in the last two years!
