May 11th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

US-installed Ukrainian fascists commemorated Poroshenko's established victory in Europe Day of Remembrance by vowing to "destroy Moscow," free its people, and let them "shape their own future."

Ukrainian ultranationalists attending a May 8 commemoration included 14th SS Waffen Grenadier division veterans, Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) members, and Nazi-infested volunteer battalions involved in what they call "the Russian-Ukrainian war."

Speeding up the countdown to catastrophe

May 11th, 2015

By Alan Hart

The man now calling the shots for Israel's Palestine policy is not Prime Minister Netanyahu but Naftali Bennett, the leader of the Jewish Home party, who has declared and means that there are no circumstances in which he would ever agree to the creation of a Palestinian state.

Without the Jewish Home party's participation Netanyahu would not have been able to construct a fragile and unstable coalition government with a majority of one in the Knesset. In other words it was Bennett who made it possible for Netanyahu to have a fourth term as prime minister and that gives him, Bennett, and the deluded and demented settlers he represents, a great deal of bargaining and blackmail power.

Pentagon Document Confirms Israeli Nukes

May 11th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Israel's open secret is well known. It's nuclear armed and dangerous.

It won't discuss or reveal its program publicly. It wants regional exclusivity to maintain and use its arsenal at its discretion.

Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion recruited Eastern European Jewish scientists to "increase (Israeli) capacity to kill masses," he said.

He was determined to have "non-conventional weapons" - notably nuclear ones to counter what he called the Arabs' numerical advantage.

His farewell address expressed confidence Israeli "science (would) provide us with the weapons that are needed to deter our enemies from waging war against us."

ANZAC Day. On 25 April 1915

As the world continues to engage in various commemorations in relation to World War I, Australia approaches the centenary anniversary of a defining event in the nation's history: ANZAC Day. On 25 April 1915, and for many days after, Australia suffered savage losses at Gallipoli in Turkey.

Sometimes when we reflect on war, we talk about sacrifice for a good cause. Other times, we talk about the cost, in lives or liberties lost. Occasionally, we talk about the horror. Sometimes we talk about the gains, nationally or internationally, for freedom and democracy. And rarely, we analyse the causes of war and lament that one day we might end it.

Washington and Saudis Plan Escalated Aggression on Yemen

May 10th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

On Thursday, John Kerry met with Saudi officials in Riyadh. They planned escalated aggression on Yemen harming defenseless civilians most.

A so-called proposed 5-day humanitarian ceasefire is phony. Terror-bombing continues. US/Saudi enforced blockade prevents enough essentials to life from entering Yemen.

Suggesting a limited pause in fighting is willful deception. Washington wants all-out terror war against 25 million Yemenis.

It wants control regained over its former client state - no matter how much mass slaughter and destruction it takes to achieve it.

It bears repeating what other articles stressed. Yemen is Obama's war - using Saudis and other regional rogue states as US proxies.

Six weeks of terror-bombing achieved nothing strategically. Nor have thousands of imported takfiri terrorists been able to challenge Houthi rebels effectively.

Palestinian Authority Hypocrisy

May 10th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

On May 7, Netanyahu announced the most lunatic fringe coalition regime in Israel's history.

It includes racist hate-mongers, over-the-top fascists and religious fundamentalist zealots - an incendiary combination threatening regional peace and stability.

Palestinian Authority (PA) chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said "(t)he face of a new form of racist, discriminatory Israel has been revealed."

Netanyahu is "leading the charge to bury the two-state solution and impose a perpetual apartheid regime."

He formed a new government "of war which will be against peace and stability in our region."

Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rudaineh said Netanyahu must choose between peace and a two-state solution or a "policy of aggression and arbitrary violations against our people."

Omar Khadr: Free at Last?

May 10th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Khadr is a Canadian citizen - one of America's youngest wrongfully charged war on terror victims at the time of his illegal arrest and detention.

On July 27, 2002, US forces abducted him in Ayub Kheyl, Afghanistan. He was caught in a gun fight, shot twice in the chest and blinded in one eye.

At age 15, he was lawlessly detained, interrogated and brutally tortured at US Bagram and Guantanamo torture gulags.

He was tried before a US military commission the Supreme Court ruled lacks "the power to proceed because (its) structures and procedures violate both the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the four Geneva Conventions (Hamdan v. Rumsfeld June 2006).

Social Transformation through Meditation

May 10th, 2015

Roger Copple

Imagine watching TV without commercials. International democratic communism is my social ideal. It would be built from the ground-up, through an interdependent network of intentional (or tribal) communities in every country of the world.

Every self-determined commune would receive public funds to develop its own educational philosophy and curriculum for the children living in it. Every intentional community would grow most of its own organic food.

But to get from here to there, we have to do more than get our news about the world through alternative media. We have to do more than passionately share what we have learned with others. More important than being politically active is meditation. We can never have true outer peace unless we have inner peace.

Great scientific achievements have been made using the tool of thinking. But at higher levels of reality, all thinking obscures beauty; it prevents the experience of sacred serenity, boundless joy, and bliss in each Now moment. If we can just sit with choiceless, transpersonal, and nonconceptual awareness for a few minutes a day, without judging or evaluating the thoughts that pop up--a fountain of creativity can spring forth.

Appeals Court Strikes Down Bulk NSA Phone Spying

May 9th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

On June 11, 2013, the ACLU challenged "the constitutionality of the National Security Agency's mass collection of Americans' phone records (ACLU v. Clapper)."

It argued that doing so violates Fourth and First Amendment rights, saying:

"Because the NSA's aggregation of metadata constitutes an invasion of privacy and an unreasonable search, it is unconstitutional under the Fourth Amendment."

"The call-tracking program also violates the First Amendment, because it vacuums up sensitive information about associational and expressive activity."

NSA claims authorization under the Patriot Act's Section 215 - the so-called "business records" provision.

It permits warrantless searches without probable cause. It violates fundamental First Amendment rights. It does so by mandating secrecy.
