Fake News About Russia Sending Weapons to Taliban

April 30th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

It would be fitting justice if the report was true.

Taliban roots go back to CIA-recruited, armed and supported Mujahideen fighters against Afghanistan’s Soviet occupiers in the 1980s.

Ronald Reagan called them “the moral equivalent of our founding fathers.” Today, they’re one of America’s mortal enemies.

Yesterday’s Mujahideen are now Taliban fighters, combating illegal US war and occupation of their country.

America’s longest war continues endlessly. According to the neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post, instead of ending what can’t be won, hundreds of US marines were deployed to Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

Many may return in body bags. Claiming their mission is training and other assistance belies the real purpose behind all US troop deployments to war zones - to participate directly or indirectly in fighting.

Taliban elements control most of Helmand province, along with much of the rest of the country. America’s longest war is a lost cause. US occupation one day will end because combating it will continue until the scourge of America’s presence is gone.

General John Nicholson Jr. heads US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A). He lied claiming “(w)e continue to get reports of” Russia supplying Taliban fighters with weapons.

“We support anyone who wants to help us advance the reconciliation process, but anyone who arms belligerents who perpetuate attacks like the one we saw two days ago in Mazar-i-Sharif is not the best way forward to a peaceful reconciliation.”

Fact: No evidence suggests Russian military involvement in Afghanistan - directly or indirectly.

Fact: The country is one of many victimized by US naked aggression - continuing since October 2001, less than a month post-9/11, war planned months in advance of the mother of all false flags.

Fact: America wants endless war, not “peaceful reconciliation” - an anathema notion to US warmakers and war-profiteers.

WaPo: “A senior US military official said the Russians have increased their supply of equipment and small arms to the Taliban over the past 18 months…including medium and heavy machine guns…under the guise (of) fight(ing) ISIS…”

Fact: The anonymous “senior US military official” provided no evidence supporting his baseless claim because none exists.

WaPo quoted Defense Secretary Mattis, saying “(a)ny weapons being funneled here from a foreign country would be a violation of international law unless they were coming to the Government of Afghanistan” - adding, the issue “would have to be dealt with…”

Fact: Weapons “funneled” to and used by America in Afghanistan and all its other war theaters are major “violation(s) of international law.” Mattis failed to explain.

In March, NATO commander US General Curtis Scaparrotti lied, claiming Moscow supports Taliban fighters. Russia’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the baseless allegation - saying it was made to provide cover for America’s lost war.

Nicholson and CENTOM head General Joseph Votel want thousands more US troops deployed to Afghanistan - for endless war, a lost cause, not with any hope for breaking what they call a “stalemate.”
