Gulf of Tonkin Redux: Trump Launches Naked Aggression on Syria

April 9th, 2017

Stephen Lendman

April 7, 2017, a date which will live in infamy - the Syrian Arab Republic was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval forces of the American empire - with attribution to Franklin Roosevelt’s congressional address following Japan’s December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

Based on a false flag CW attack, wrongfully blamed on Syria’s military, Trump launched naked aggression on the country - a despicable act, a heinous war crime, unjustified and lawless, likely more aggression to follow.

The buck stops with him on all issues of war and peace - not Congress, the courts or Pentagon. He’s culpable for authorizing naked aggression on Syria - along with continuing the rape of Mosul and escalating US aggression in other war theaters.

He lied claiming Friday’s attack (local time) is “in the vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”

He lied saying “(t)here can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and ignored the urging of the UN Security Council.”

He lied blaming Syria for earlier CW attacks - carried out by US-supported terrorists.

He lied saying Assad is responsible for “the refugee crisis continu(ing) to deepen…”

He lied blaming him for regional destabilization, “threatening the United States and its allies.”

He lied “call(ing) on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria, and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types” - while committing horrific high crimes in multiple war theaters, along with supporting the scourge he pretends to oppose.

He lied saying “(w)e pray for the lives of the wounded and the souls of those who have passed” - because of endless US aggression, raping and destroying one country after another.

He lied claiming “America stands for justice…peace and harmony…”

Secretary of State Tillerson lied, saying “(c)learly Russia has failed to deliver on that commitment from 2013. So either Russia has been complicit or Russia has been incompetent in its ability to deliver” - deplorable remarks ahead of his April 11 and 12 Moscow visit, US aggression destroying any chance for improved relations with Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded, saying “President Putin considers the US strikes against Syria an aggression against a sovereign country violating the norms of international law, and under a trumped-up pretext at that.”

It’s “an attempt to divert the attention of the international community from” mass slaughter of civilians in Iraq.

It “impairs the Russian-US relations, (already) in a deplorable state…”

“…Putin believes that this (aggression) does not bring us closer to the ultimate goal in the fight against international terrorism.”

“(I)t creates serious obstacles to efforts to forge an international coalition to fight against it and effectively counter this global evil.”

Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said US warships in the Mediterranean launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Syria’s Shayrat airfield in Homs governorate.

Claiming it’s where Syria launched Tuesday’s CW attack is a Big Lie, a staged Gulf of Tonkin-like incident used for more US naked aggression.

Straightaway in office, Trump proved he’s the latest in a long line of US warrior presidents, an aggressor waging war on humanity - proving nothing he said campaigning holds water.

All politicians lie, saying whatever it takes to get elected, doing what they please once in office.

In two-and-a-half months, he’s guilty of Nuremberg-level crimes in multiple US war theaters.

His saber-ratting against China and North Korea risks more aggression. If further strikes on Syria kill Russian personnel on the ground, possible confrontation between the world’s dominant nuclear powers could follow.

On Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced “suspen(sion) (of) the Memorandum on preventing incidents and ensuring flights safety during operations in Syria signed with the US.”

“We’re urging the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the current situation.”

The Ministry called America’s aggression a premeditated act, prepared ahead of its attack, using it as a pretext for its action.

Humanity is more threatened in the wake of US aggression on Syria - holding its breath for what’s next.
