Rebranding US-Supported Jabhat Al-Nusra Terrorist Group

August 5th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Virtually all significant terrorist groups ravaging the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere are US creations - its mercenary death squad army, doing America’s killing and dying for it.

No moderate rebels exist, in Syria or in any other US war theater. They’re all cutthroat killers, indifferent to human life and welfare.

Jabhat al-Nusra (aka Nusra Front) is Al Qaeda in Syria, renamed Jabhat Fatah al Sham, claiming “no affiliation to any external entity.”

What does rebranding accomplish? Will it shield the group from Syria and Russia attacking its forces? Hopefully not.

Will it change its ruthless actions, its cutthroat tactics, its atrocities against defenseless civilians, its extremist ideology? No.

Will it make conflict resolution more likely? No. Will anything substantive change going forward? No.

Washington bears full responsibility for years of mass slaughter and destruction in multiple war theaters. NATO, Israel, Saudi Arabia and other rogue allies share it.

Terrorist groups throughout the world can be defeated by withdrawing foreign support, the source of their strength.

Where else do their heavy weapons come from, training to use them, funding to keep these groups viable, along with military leadership and direction?

Terrorist group names are irrelevant. How they’re used alone matters - as death squad foot soldiers, serving Washington’s imperial agenda, benefitting Israel’s hegemonic ambitions.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi, rebranding Jabhat al-Nusra’s name change aims “to remove the group from (the) terrorism list, but the ugly image of extremism and terrorism cannot be whitewashed through such moves.”

“Such measures are a sign of the political bankruptcy of the extremists’ regional supporters headed by Saudi Arabia as the father and principal supporter of al-Qaeda, Taliban, Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), al-Nusra Front and many other terrorist groups, particularly in Syria.”

As long as Washington wages permanent wars on humanity for world conquest and control, these groups will thrive by doing its bidding.
