Obama in Asia

November 23rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Attending the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, Obama ranted during a Sunday press conference, like he does at home - his usual demagogic mumbo-jumbo replete with misinformation and Big Lies.

He makes painful listening. Nothing he says is credible. America “will not relent” in the fight against the Islamic State, he blustered. “The most powerful tool we have is to say we are not afraid.” He insists US forces made significant progress in combating its elements.

False on all counts! ISIS is a US creation, used as foot soldiers wherever they’re deployed - armed and funded, trained by CIA operatives and special forces in Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, taught to commit horrific atrocities, shown how to make chemical weapons.

Israel is involved in supporting its elements, including supplying weapons and treating its wounded in its hospitals.

Russia is leading the fight against this menace, supporting Syrian ground forces, helping them make significant gains recapturing lost territory, liberating villages, regaining the offensive - Russian air power the decisive difference, polar opposite US support for its imported death squads.

Obama maintains the fiction of backing “moderate” rebels. None exist or too few to matter. He called on Putin to make a “strategic adjustment.” Stop supporting Assad, he said, claiming war won’t end with him in power.

“It will not work to keep him in power,” he blustered. “We can’t stop the fighting.”

Fact: International law (automatically US law under the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause - Article 6, clause 2) prohibits nations from interfering in the affairs of others. No exceptions except in self-defense, permitted only with Security Council authorization.

Fact: No nation anywhere threatens America. It intervenes against one country after another politically, economically and militarily - above all, lawlessly.

Fact: All US post-WW II military interventions were and remain illegal acts of aggression - wars waged to advance America’s imperium, at the expense of world peace, stability and countless millions of lives lost.

Fact: Syrians alone should and hopefully will decide who’ll lead them, now and ahead, free from outside interference, notably from rogues states America and Israel.

Following the ASEAN summit on Sunday, Obama heads home to Washington. On Tuesday, he’ll meet with French President Francois Hollande, plotting ways to regain the initiative in Syria.

Russia seized it righteously, waging real war on terror, not America’s phony campaign with imperial partners - supporting, not combatting ISIS.

Obama’s rants would sound comical if issues at stake weren’t so serious, saying the Islamic State “can’t beat us on the battlefield so they try to terrorize us into being afraid.”

What nonsense! Separate articles discussed fear-mongering in Europe and America - state-sponsored to scare people into supporting policies, harming their self-interest and welfare, including endless imperial wars and harsh homeland crackdowns, gutting human and civil rights protections.

Obama’s pledge to fight ISIS relentlessly, “take back their land, cut off their financing, and hunt down their leadership” on all fronts is polar opposite policies he’s pursued since launching proxy aggression to oust Syria’s Assad and gain another imperial trophy in March 2011.

Important questions media scoundrels never ask include if he’s so hell-bent to defeat ISIS now, based on his posturing, why has he done nothing to achieve this objective so far? Just the opposite!

Why does he continue supporting its fighters - with arms, funding and training? Why has he systematically destroyed large parts of Syria, displaced half its population and turned a once peaceful country into a dystopian nightmare?

He bears full responsibility for massacring around a quarter million of its people, seriously injuring many others, creating appalling levels of human misery.

The same policies inflicted against Iraq, continuing where Bush left off, Libya, Donbass, Yemen and elsewhere, complicit with Israel against Palestine, besides horrors committed at home, including force-fed austerity enriching Wall Street, war profiteers and other corporate favorites, measures producing protracted Depression conditions affecting most Americans, along with police state harshness against resisters.

Obama is a disgrace to his people, America and all other world societies. He belongs in prison, not high office.
