Yemen Peace Talks: Hold the Cheers

June 19th, 2015

It bears repeating what previous articles stressed. Yemen is Obama's war using Saudis and other regional rogue states to do his dirty work - including Israel.

At stake is Yemen's sovereign independence. Washington wants US-controlled puppet governance replacing it.

Its proxy war is systematically turning parts of Yemen to rubble, murdering thousands, injuring many more, creating a growing refugee crisis and one of the world's most devastating humanitarian catastrophies - largely ignored by Western media.

On Monday, so-called peace talks began in Geneva. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has done nothing to demand an end to Saudi-led aggression. Weak-kneed calls for all parties to show restraint substitute for action to stop mass slaughter and destruction.

Ansarullah Houthi Geneva delegation head Hamza al-Houthi said "the UN…has not done anything (to stop Saudi aggression), and we have not heard any voice either from the UN or from the international community."

He stressed Yemenis alone must resolve internal issues without outside interference. The UN's role is to act against external aggression. It's done nothing to stop Saudi-led terror bombing.

It failed to prevent what Houthi delegates called "a clear obstruction and reckless attempt" to block them from reaching Geneva.

Egypt's junta denied them overflight rights. They had to divert to Djibouti before proceeding to Switzerland - an effort to obstruct talks before they began. Houthi advisor Seif al-Washli called Cairo's action the "result of Saudi pressure…to block the delegation and humiliate them."

Expect little or nothing resolved in Geneva. US demands voiced through proxies are unacceptable - unconditional Houthi surrender by disarming and withdrawing military forces from areas it controls.

Expect no conflict resolution any time soon. Expect continued Saudi-led aggression - perhaps far greater mass slaughter and destruction than already.

Geneva talks are expected to last several days. Opposing sides won't meet face-to-face - not an auspicious sign. Instead, UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, will shuttle between attending delegations.

Ban one-sidedly supports imperial interests - calling for Houthis (without mentioning them by name) to withdraw militarily from areas they control.

Saudi-led terror bombing continues without letup despite talks. So does its genocidal blockade preventing essential to life humanitarian aid arriving in amounts needed.

Millions of Yemenis have limited or no access to enough food, clean water, medical care, fuel and electricity.

One of the world's great humanitarian disasters grows worse daily with Western leaders able to intervene responsibly doing nothing to stop it.

Imperial interests alone matter - not efforts to stop US-orchestrated, Saudi-led naked aggression and slow-motion genocide by terror bombing, deprivation and life-threatening diseases.

On Tuesday, Ansarullah Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi urged Yemenis to remain steadfast in the face of Saudi-led aggression.

He called America, Israel and Riyadh a "criminal group" source of regional evil. He said Al Qaeda and other takfiri terrorists are imperial tools working against the interests and welfare of all Yemenis.

He explained Israel and America benefit most from Saudi-led aggression. He expects nothing positive from Geneva talks.

Aggressor nations are using the UN as a tool to impose their will on Yemen, he said. They want ongoing carnage and chaos continued to force unconditional Houthi surrender. They want a greater humanitarian disaster than already.

They want imperial interests imposed militarily. It bears repeating. Expect no conflict resolution any time soon. Expect continued Saudi-led terror bombing mass slaughter and destruction.
