Church of the Nativity sanctuary seekers still in exile after 10 years. Why?

June 30th, 2012

Stuart Littlewood

Church of the Nativity sanctuary Israel

The election of Egypt's president Muhammad Mursi momentarily threw a spotlight on the long-forgotten Palestinians exiled to Gaza after the Israelis’ infamous siege of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem in the West Bank 10 years ago.

Still kicking their heels in Gaza the exiles called on Mursi to continue efforts to end the squabble between political rivals Hamas in Gaza and Fatah in the West Bank http://www.maannews.net/eng/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=498512. They were optimistic that the new Egyptian president would work towards easing Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip and press for Palestinians rights, including the right of exiles to return home.

Summit Fatigue

June 30th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Since crisis conditions erupted, it's number 19 and counting. Like earlier summits, they met. They talked. They agreed to talk more. They accomplished little more than before.

Dozens of rescue packages preceded Friday's. Promises are made and broken. Hyped plans failed. Conditions are worse now than ever.

Reality belies morning headlines. An official statement left important details unanswered. It was long on political posturing, not real solutions.

Netanyahu to Obama regarding November’s election: When we say “jump” you answer, “how high”!

June 30th, 2012

Franklin Lamb

Beirut

Presidential candidate Barack Obama is being targeted by the US Israel lobby from A to Z, (Ackerman, Gary & Aipac to Zuckerman, Mort & the Zionist Organization of America) as no American President seeking re-election has been in the country’s 236 year history.

Israel’s duel loyalty agents, as well as more fair minded American Jewish voters have historically intimidated and influenced US presidents seeking reelection, especially those in a tight race, with various financial and political threats and rewards. That’s part of the American political game and obviously plenty of other lobbies do it also.

Reports of Troop Movements Near Syria's Borders

June 30th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

After Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced new rules of engagement, Turkey deployed missile batteries, rocket launchers, and anti-aircraft weapons close to Syria's border.

About 30 military trucks arrived in Iskenderun. From there, they moved toward Syria's border 30 miles away.

Armored military vehicles also headed for Sanliurfa and Reyhanli in Southern Turkey's Hatay Province.

The terrorist government of the United States

June 29th, 2012

By Larry Pinkney

“How can you have a war on terrorism when war itself is terrorism?”—Howard Zinn

“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them.”—Frederick Douglass

Everyday ordinary Black, White, Brown, Red, and Yellow people of the United States are living under the yoke of a self-legitimized organized corporate/military crime syndicate known as the government.

Duplicitous Human Rights Council Report on Syria

June 29th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On June 27, the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) discussed conflict conditions in Syria. Truth took a back seat. Some present denounced its absence.

Pre-scripted, its conclusions were predictable. Washington calls the shots. Most HRC members salute and obey.

Syrian HRC representative Faisal Khabbaz al-Hamwi denounced the proceedings. Calling them useless and politically biased, he said its report reflects a "disinformation war against Syria." He walked out of the session, saying:

"We will not participate in this flagrantly political meeting."

The good news from Cairo

June 29th, 2012

By Khalid Amayreh

There is no doubt that the election of Muammed Morsi as President of Egypt is a heartening news for all free men and women around the world.

It is certainly good news for the Egyptian people, exhausted and thoroughly impoverished by decades of corruption and decadence sustained by military dictators who were mostly answerable to foreign powers rather than to the masses.

It is good news for the Arab world where Egypt always assumed the ultimate leadership role, a role without which the Arabs were left like disoriented orphans, immersed in their endless tribal preoccupations and conflicts.

We also hope it is going to be good news for the Palestinians and their enduring just cause. Needless to say, the Palestinian cause suffered immensely when the traditionally commanding role of Egypt was marginalized, even neutralized, following the conclusion of the camp David treaty with Israel.

State of War in Syria

June 28th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On Wednesday, Assad said "a state of war" exists.

"(A)LL our policies, directives and all sectors will be directed in order to gain victory in this war."

He called on government officials to boost relations with Russia, Latin American and African states.

"Apparently, the problem was with the West only, while the majority of the world want to build relations with us and with others, but throughout decades, we were seeking to boost our economic ties with those who colonized us directly or indirectly." "Syria seeks to build good relations with all world countries but we have to know where are our real interests."

The Euro is a Big Success - No Kidding

June 28th, 2012

by Greg Palast

The idea that the euro has "failed" is dangerously naive. The euro is doing exactly what its progenitor – and the wealthy 1%-ers who adopted it – predicted and planned for it to do.

That progenitor is former University of Chicago economist Robert Mundell. The architect of "supply-side economics" is now a professor at Columbia University, but I knew him through his connection to my Chicago professor, Milton Friedman, back before Mundell's research on currencies and exchange rates had produced the blueprint for European monetary union and a common European currency.

Try Thinking for Yourself

June 27th, 2012

Timothy Gatto

For every right we lose in the United States, for every assault upon the Constitution and for every foreclosure or job lost overseas, the more we hear about “supporting our troops”. I don’t suppose that anyone has figured out how supporting our troops will help us to regain our rights or to get our homes back. The same goes for killing Muslims. How many should we kill in order to make things right at home?

I watch Scott Pelley on CBS every night. No, I don’t watch the show to gain any insight into what’s happening in the World. I watch it to see how the news is slanted towards our foreign policy. Recently I’ve see a few episodes where CBS correspondents have slipped into Syria to report on the fighting there. Scott always starts and finishes with how the Assad regime is killing its own people. To give credit to the correspondents, they just report on the violence these and don’t ascribe blame. That’s Pelley’s job. Watch it a few times and tell me that I’m mistaken. Scott is a whore for the administration. I imagine that is why he got the job.
