Expect Bolivarian Victory in Venezuela

October 7th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

October 7 is the moment of truth. Venezuelans get to choose between populism and neoliberal harshness.

They're not stupid. They won't tolerate reinventing the bad old days. Expect Bolivarianism to triumph. Too bad it can't everywhere when it's most needed.

James Petras is a longtime distinguished Latin American expert. His article titled "Venezuelan Elections: a Choice and Not an Echo" expertly explains what's at stake.

Hugo Chavez and corporatist Henrique Capriles Radonski are mirror opposites. At issue is social democracy v. the worst of exploitive capitalism.

Chavez wants greater "public ownership of the means of production and consumption…."

No More Israel in 10 Years

October 7th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

On September 17, the New York Post quoted Henry Kissinger saying:

"In 10 years, there will be no more Israel. I repeat: In 10 years, there will be no more Israel."

He didn't mean Israel will self-destruct or collapse. His view mirrors the combined assessment of 16 US intelligence agencies. Months earlier, its report headlined "Preparing For A Post Israel Middle East." It wasn’t released publicly so no link.

It concluded that Washington's national interest is at odds with Israel. The so-called special relationship is counterproductive. What benefits Israel geopolitically often harms America.

It's time to stop letting the tail wag the dog. America loses more than it gains. Serious reassessment is long overdue.

Turkish False Flag on Syria

October 7th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

The news is out but bears repeating. New reports confirm it. It shouldn't surprise. It's one of the oldest stunts around. Attacks launched are blamed on victims. Wars follow. More on Turkey's false flag below.

Sinking the Lusitania in May 1915 preceded America's April 1917 WW I entry. The 1933 Reichstag fire helped Hitler assume dictatorial powers.

On August 31, 1939, Nazis impersonating Poles attacked a Gleiwitz radio station. It was on the border between the two countries. WW II followed.

Roosevelt manipulated the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor. It gave him the war he wanted. Japan's fleet was tracked across the Pacific. Pearl Harbor's Admiral HE Kimmel wasn't warned. Casualties were needed to turn pacifist Americans into raving Japan haters and get congressional support.

Numerous other false flags followed. The August 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident is well-known. Over a decade of war followed. For suffering Vietnamese it never ended.

In August 1990, Washington colluded with Kuwait's al-Sabah monarchy. Saddam was entrapped to invade. In January 1991, the Gulf War began. Genocidal sanctions, more war, occupation, and destruction of the "cradle of civilization" followed.

The PA's desperate UN feat

October 7th, 2012

By Khaled Amayreh in occupied Ramallah

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addresses the 67th
United Nations General Assembly in New York

In New York, Mahmoud Abbas renewed the Palestinian bid for statehood recognition. Whether anything will come of it remains to be seen.

There is a broad agreement within the Palestinian political class that the road to obtaining UN recognition for a Palestinian state, even with borders yet to be designated, with or without agreement with Israel, is going to be anything but smooth sailing.

Nonetheless, the Palestinian Authority (PA) seems intent on walking the "extra mile" in order to receive such recognition, irrespective of the risks of failure.

Some PA officials have warned that UN failure to grant the PA full non-member status would send an unmistakable message to the Palestinians that they have to remain under Israel's racist military occupation for eternity, and that it would be better for them to come to terms with this reality.

Turkey Plays Lee Harvey for NATO Plotters

Turkey is the fall guy.

The Turkish parliament provided Prime Minister Recep Erdoğan with a broad authorization "to make the necessary arrangements for sending the Turkish Armed Forces to foreign countries" Hurriyet, October 4, 2012. The vote was on party lines with the dominant AKP party forming a majority. Muharrem İnce of the CHP opposition party said: "This motion has no limits. You can wage a world war with [it]."

The warning about the road to war may be near reality. McClatchy Newspapers just reported the following:

ISTANBUL -- One day after winning blanket authority to send forces into Syria, Turkey’s prime minister warned Friday that his country is "not far from war" and said that it would be a “deadly mistake” for the Syrian government to test Turkey’s will. McClatchy Newspapers, October 6, 2012

Pressure Building for More Middle East War

October 6th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Obama's currently waging more direct and proxy wars than any previous president. He plans more. Expect it post-election whoever wins.

Middle East ones won't end until America exerts unchallenged regional hegemony. Conflicts may rage for years. Millions more may die. Expect more countries ravaged and destroyed. The entire region and beyond will be affected. US policy dictates it. Timing for what's planned isn't publicized.

Tensions are stoked. Syria and Iran are longstanding targets. Washington wants independent governments in both countries replaced by subservient pro-Western ones it controls. That's how imperialism works. Wars are waged for it. Body counts don't matter. Nor do rule of law principles.

The U.S. corporate media’s conspiracy of silence

October 6th, 2012

By Larry Pinkney

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”—Malcolm X [el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz]

“We need to decide that we will not go to war, whatever reason is conjured up by the politicians or the media, because war in our time is always indiscriminate, a war against innocents, a war against children.—Howard Zinn

The late South African political activist Steve Biko correctly said that, “The greatest weapon in the hand of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed.” The 21st century U.S. corporate-stream media has irrefutably proven this to be accurate. This media is both the bane and the deadly novocaine of the masses of everyday ordinary Black, White, Brown, Red, and Yellow people in this nation and worldwide.

East Jerusalem Schools: Failing Grade

October 6th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

In August, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) released a report titled "Failed Grade: East Jerusalem's Failing Educational System." It's grim reading. It shows how Palestinian children are marginalized and deprived.

For tens of thousands of E. Jerusalem children, school began in late August. Inadequate educational services are provided. It's underfunded and substandard. Kids deserving better don't get it.

Unsuitable classrooms are provided. Some are in residential buildings. Thousands don't get the chance for school at all. Around 40% of others end up dropping out before graduating.

Khaled Mash'al is not a traitor, the murderer of his own people is

October 6th, 2012

By Khalid Amayreh in Ramallah

A commentary by the Syrian state-run TV on Monday 1 October attacked the Palestinian Islamist leader Khaled Mash'al, calling him, inter alia, a traitor.

The attack appeared to be prompted by Mash'al's condemnation of the pornographic slaughter by the cultic, sectarian regime of the Syrian people.

The esoteric Alawite regime had been accustomed to distributing certificates of patriotism and treason to its friends and foes.

However, the ongoing Syrian revolution against the murderous regime seems to have exposed the total bankruptcy of the regime and its supporters.

Cowardly Terrorists Murder Syrian Civilians

October 5th, 2012

by Stephen Lendman

Aleppo murders are the latest example. Western-recruited death squads ruthlessly target civilians. They're armed and directed to do so. They're merciless cowards.

Innocent men, women and children die. Murdering children, raping women, and beheading men are their specialities. So are other atrocities. Since winter 2011, many thousands of Syrians were slaughtered. Dozens more succumb daily.

That's what terrorism is all about. Imperialism operates that way. Barbarism best describes it. It's longstanding US practice in all its direct and proxy wars. Respect for human life isn't America's long suit. It never was.
