Unholy Alliance

October 11th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Israel and Saudi Arabia are rogue states writ large. They're two of the world's worst. They deplore democratic values. They spurn rule of law principles.

They commit horrendous human and civil rights abuses. They're responsible for daily crimes against humanity.

They partner with Washington's imperial wars. They're an odd couple. They're strange bedfellows. Perhaps they're joining forces. Formal relations aren't maintained. Back channel secret ones substitute.

On October 2, Israel's Channel 2 TV news said senior Israeli security officials met with a high-level Gulf state counterpart. They did so in Jerusalem.

The United States of Inequality

October 11th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Shutting down government irresponsibly doesn't work. Nor does money printing madness for the wrong reasons.

Former Reagan administration Office of Management and Budget Director David Stockman calls QE "high grade monetary heroin." One day, it'll "kill the patient," he says.

Out-of-control debt isn't resolved by more of it. Adding more leaves less for goods and services. Economies suffer. They're looted for profit. Bankers want state enterprises sold at fire sale prices. Doing so creates lucrative financing on credit opportunities. The top 1% benefits. Most others are force-fed austerity.

US Globalized Torture Black Sites

October 11th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On October 5, US Delta Force commandos, CIA operatives, and FBI agents abducted Abu Anas al-Liby. Doing so highlights what's been out-of-control since 9/11.

In the 1980s, al-Liby was one of many CIA-recruited mujahideen fighters. They were used against Afghanistan's Soviet occupiers.

Ronald Reagan called them "the moral equivalent of our founding fathers." He characterized Contra killers the same way.

Bin Laden, al-Liby, and many other Al Qaeda fighters were used strategically as both allies and enemies. Most recently, al-Liby was an anti-Gaddafi "freedom fighter."

Osama, Obama, Bush…. It’s The Empire Stupid!

October 10th, 2013

Philip A Farruggio

All three of the aforementioned men were and are creatures of the American Military Industrial Empire. They were nurtured, influenced, subsidized and controlled by this machine. Bin Laden was one of many rich, educated Muslims who became brainwashed by what I call the Islam or bust mindset. Much like the orthodox Zionists who rule Israel and the right wing zealots here at home who preach their phony Christianity, any such belief system plays directly into the hands of the empire. Go and watch Lorraine Levy’s fine film The Other Son (2012) and see why this empire so fears harmony amongst different cultural groups. Tis better to ‘divide and conquer ‘then to deal with mass movements of ‘people before profits ‘.

I await the time that more of my fellow Americans come to the realization that Obama and Bush Jr. are really born of the same dastardly parents: The Empire. Regardless of the fact, as William Blum explains in his new book of essays Americas Deadliest Export: Democracy, that Obama is bright and articulate …. He still then serves the same interests as his predecessor! Many of my dear friends and one time fellow activists who worked so diligently to get this man elected are now slowly having ‘ buyer’s remorse ‘ . During the height of the healthcare reform (oxymoron) debate a few short years ago, we who knew better told everyone that the so called public option AKA Medicare for all who want it would never be proposed by Obama and his party. Why? Well, look at the numbers: In the 2008 presidential campaign, McCain received over $ 7 million in donations from the health care industry (including insurance companies). Barack Obama received … over $ 21 million! What is now referred to as Obamacare is a gold ribbon for the private insurers.

Double Standard Victims of Israel's War on Palestine

October 10th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Brutalizing Palestinians is longstanding. Crimes of war, against humanity, and slow-motion genocide reflect it.

So do colonization, apartheid and daily state terror. Militarized occupation is lawless and brutal. Previous articles explained.

Torture, inhumane and degrading treatment reflect official Israeli policy. Children are treated like adults.

In July, Israeli soldiers terrorized a five-year old Palestinian boy. They threatened him and his parents.

They handcuffed and blindfolded his father. They handed the boy over to police. They wrongfully accused him of stone-throwing. Many other children face similar charges.

The Golden Dawn Murder Case Larry Summers and the New Fascism

October 10th, 2013

By Greg Palast

On September 18, hip-hop artist Pavlos Fyssas, a.k.a. Killah P, was stabbed outside a bar in Keratsini, Greece.

Larry Summers has an air-tight alibi. But I don't believe it.

Larry didn’t hold the knife: The confessed killer is some twisted member of Golden Dawn, a political party made up of skin-head freaks, anti-immigrant fear-mongers, anti-Muslim/ anti-Semitic/ anti-Albanian sociopaths and ultra-patriot fruitcakes. Think of it as the Tea Party goes Greek. Following Fyssas’ killing, other groups of dangerous psychopathic misfits, namely the European Union and Greece’s governing coalition, moved to ban Golden Dawn.

Government Shutdown and Appointment of Janet Yellen Guarantees Flow of Funds to Wall Street: They are reducing “two-thirds of this country to subsistence level”, Chris Hedges

October 10th, 2013

via chycho

It’s no secret that the only reason the markets have been roaring – since bottoming out in March 2009, the DOW is up approximately 125% and The S&P 500 approximately 120% - is because of unlimited quantitative easing to the tune of $85 billion a month, a last resort, desperate measure that the FOMC began in 2012 to maintain its ‘growth’ targets. The end result of this program has essentially been the transfer of wealth from Main Street to Wall Street.

In terms of types of financial wealth, the top one percent of households have 35% of all privately held stock, 64.4% of financial securities, and 62.4% of business equity. The top ten percent have 81% to 94% of stocks, bonds, trust funds, and business equity, and almost 80% of non-home real estate. Since financial wealth is what counts as far as the control of income-producing assets, we can say that just 10% of the people own the United States of America.”

Netanyahu: His Own Worst Enemy

October 10th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

He never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity to act responsibly. He's too set in his ways. He's too far gone to change. He's off the rails entirely.

It shows every time he speaks. He puts his foot in his mouth. One day he'll risk swallowing it.

His 2012 UN address was abhorrent. He made a fool out of himself before a world audience. He did again on October 1.

His anti-Iranian bluster wore thin long ago. He falsely claims the Islamic Republic wants Israel destroyed. He lies about its peaceful nuclear program.

He's viciously anti-Muslim. He considers Arabs subhuman. His governance proves it. He's more lunatic than leader.

He repeats one lie after another. It comes easy to him. Perhaps he can't distinguish between truth and fantasy. He menaces people throughout the region.

October 10 is World Day Against the Death Penalty

October 9th, 2013

Mary Shaw

Thursday, October 10, 2013, is the 11th annual World Day Against the Death Penalty. This day was established by the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty to raise awareness on the issues related to the death penalty and to ultimately abolish the practice worldwide.

Fortunately, there has been a steady trend towards abolition in some parts of the world. The death penalty has already been abolished in all European countries except for Belarus. In fact, today over two-thirds of the world's nations - 141 - have ended capital punishment in law or practice. This reflects the growing awareness that there are alternative punishments that are effective and which do not involve state-sponsored killing.

Violence, Instability, Torture and Deaths in Libya

October 9th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Wherever America shows up, mass slaughter, destruction, instability and human misery follow.

Today's Libya reflects Washington's deplorable legacy. North Africa's most developed country was ravaged and destroyed. Anarchical charnel house conditions replaced it.

Disinformation.com listed 16 things Libyans lost. They include:

(1) free electricity

(2) interest free loans from state-owned banks

(3) homes considered a human right
