Our ‘Enemies’ in Ukraine Speak

August 24th, 2014

Eric Zuesse

America’s ‘news’ media do not let the victims of Ukraine’s civil war — the people who are dying and being driven out from the southeastern regions of that country by the new Ukrainian Government — speak, and tell their story. Scenes will therefore be posted below from an admittedly overlong amateur video from southeastern Ukraine, in which they have been allowed to tell their story. This is being done here since U.S. ‘news’ media apparently don’t consider it something that you would want to know, and since you should be allowed to judge for yourself whether it is or not, and to judge why it’s not being reported on the ‘news’ sources that our ‘democracy’ offers to ‘inform’ America’s public about public affairs. It is also being done because these still photos from the documentary summarize this over-long documentary’s important narrative. You are welcomed to click onto the link above to see the entire 82-minute documentary.

Irresponsible Putin Bashing Escalates

August 24th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

War without mercy in Ukraine rages. Washington offers full support and encouragement.

Obama's new friends are ruthless. They're illegitimate neo-Nazi infested fascists.

They're murdering their own citizens. Donbass region residents face daily bombing and shelling.

Over 2,000 were killed. Many others were injured. Hundreds of thousands are internally or externally displaced.

Conditions are dire. A humanitarian crisis persists. Things go from bad to worse.

Lugansk residents have no electricity or running water. Food, medical supplies and other essentials to life are in short supply.

Rights groups react to the murder of journalist James Foley

August 24th, 2014

Mary Shaw

James Foley was a much stronger journalist than I could ever hope to be. Foley went missing in Syria in 2012, and it appears that he remained stoic right through the last words he spoke on video just before his brutal beheading by an Islamic State terrorist thug.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), "Islamic State kidnaps, kills, and threatens journalists wherever it holds sway. Syria is the most dangerous country in the world for journalists, with at least 70 killed covering the conflict."

Amnesty International (AI) has called Foley's murder a war crime. "Those who carried out the killing and those who ordered it must face justice," said Margaret Huang, AIUSA's Deputy Executive Director of Campaigns and Programs.

Obama Buggers Europe: Sanctions Deepen the Recession

August 24th, 2014

James Petras

Introduction

The Obama Administration actively pressured Europe to impose harsh sanctions on Russia in order to defend the violent takeover (‘regime change’) in the Ukraine. England, France, Germany and the rest of the European regimes gave in to Washington’s demands. Russia responded by imposing reciprocal sanctions, especially on agriculture goods, and is establishing alternative trading partners and increasing trade with China, Iran, Latin America and Africa.

The sanctions policies occur at a time when Europe’s economies are in deep economic crisis, exacerbating long-term stagnation and chronic recession. This paper will identify and analyze the crisis and how US-led sanctions policy is fracturing the European Union. Secondly, we will analyze how Washington’s militarist imperial policies undermine Europe economically and destabilize the rest of the world militarily. Thirdly, we will discuss how the European leaders are prodded by Washington, to put it crudely, through an aggressive ‘buggering process’, to surrender their economic sovereignty and how capitulation to the US project in the Ukraine will lead to their long-term decline and decay. Finally, we will discuss the long-term perspectives for a re-aligned world economy where military conflicts can result in large-scale changes.

Israel Murders Journalists

August 24th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Israel threatens press freedom. Repressive Knesset legislation targets speech, assembly, association, and the right to dissent. So does Kafkaesque justice.

Military censorship bans, buries or sanitizes information about its crimes of war and against humanity it wants suppressed.

It willfully suppresses what everyone needs to know. It does so on the spurious pretext of national security.

It gags foreign correspondents. It forces them to abide by a Censorship Agreement. Its main provisions are:

  • preventing publication or broadcast of what's called security related information;

  • permitting news and analysis of political issues except when they include what Israel calls classified information; and

  • informing the media which issues demand approval; they're subject to change; they include two main issues - state security and Jewish immigration from nations hostile to Israel.

Russia on Unilateral Start of Ukraine Humanitarian Aid

August 23rd, 2014

Michael Collins
ukrainedonetsk

What will prevent this leadership of the "free world" from attacking their own citizens or denying those citizens humanitarian aid when they are in need? For them, the Ukraine is just practice.

For weeks now, all involved parties have known of the humanitarian crisis in the Donbass region of Ukraine. The Ukraine's Kiev government created the crisis by attacking its own citizens, a process that began on July 1 at the order of the United States agent and puppet, Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) declared the situation a humanitarian emergency and outlined the aid required. Russia put together a 280-truck convoy of needed aid and headed for the border with Ukraine. Ukraine border guards halted the convoy. They accused Russia of planting weapons in the trucks. When Russia offered inspections and ride along privileges to Ukraine officials, along with ICRC and EU representatives, nothing changed. It was clear to Russia that the delays by the Kiev government were a ploy to allow further attacks on the millions living in and around Donetsk and Lugansk, millions in desperate need of water, food, medical supplies and power. (Image: Donetsk citizens hide from Kiev government bombardment. Colonel Cassad English)

Russia finally had enough and told the convoy to proceed across the border. The statement below makes clear the rationale. (Full statement below) The other point that is perfectly clear is this: if the convey is attacked, the attackers will be held responsible. That should be taken as a threat to decimate any Ukraine forces that are held responsible.

Family Should Seek Justice, Not Risk More Injustice From the System

August 23rd, 2014

By Kevin Zeese

The family cannot rely on the grand jury system or Attorney General Holder

The grand jury process in the United States is rigged for the prosecutor. There is an old saying among lawyers “A prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich.” Of course, the reverse is also true; the prosecutor can also prevent an indictment. The prosecutor controls the grand jury process which is conducted in secret without even a judge present. The prosecutor decides what witnesses to call and there is no opportunity for a defense lawyer or attorney for the family to participate.

Further, the make-up of the grand jury which comes from St. Louis County (not the city of St. Louis) where Ferguson is located is heavily dominated by whites as it represents the make-up of the county which is 70% white and 23% African American. In the specific grand jury investigating the killing of Michael Brown the jurors were selected by Missouri Circuit Judge Carolyn Whittington (the prosecutor does not select the jurors), there are 9 whites on the jury and 3 blacks; 7 are men 5 are women. It takes 9 jurors to agree to indict the police officer. A majority decision is not required. The racial make-up is particularly important since the views of white and blacks on this incident are radically different.

The Psychological Trauma of Catastrophe: Gaza’s Children

August 23rd, 2014

Louisa A. Lamb

Despite the on-again, off-again ceasefires between the Palestinian Resistance and Israel, attacks in Gaza have continued. According to 8/10/14 announcement from Tel Aviv, they will continue, doubtlessly as ruthless as ever. After Israel launched the first attack on July 7th, tension continues as an omnipresent essence whirling about the winds of the greatly sought-after Holy land. Bombarded by airstrikes, shelling and bombs, civilians of the Gaza strip are incarcerated in what seems to be a never-ending battle with no escape. Recent reports from numerous sources and journalists describe the weight of the devastation Palestinians have endured in Gaza.

Pro-Israeli Security Council Gaza Resolution

August 23rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

On August 21, Washington joined Germany, Britain and France. They presented a largely one-sided Security Council resolution to end over six weeks of conflict.

It's pro-Israeli. It's pro-Western. It's anti-Palestinian. It's more Gazan Versailles than legitimate peace plan. It demands rejection.

It's in lieu of what's fundamentally needed:

Russian Humanitarian Aid Reaches Lugansk

August 23rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Kiev putschists blocked vitally needed humanitarian aid for days. They did so for spurious reasons.

They did it to impose greater hardships on desperate Southeastern Ukrainians. They did it to deprive them of essentials to life.

They did it to facilitate their genocidal aggression. They did it with full support and encouragement from Washington.

Enough is enough. On August 22, Itar Tass headlined "Russia's 70 trucks with humanitarian cargo proceed toward toward Ukraine's Luhansk," saying:

They cleared customs. They entered Ukrainian territory. They headed for Lugansk. They did so on a mission of mercy.

They carried food, water, medical supplies and other vitally needed aid. Kiev claims about a Trojan Horse convoy of weapons were spurious on their face.
