Ukraine in the Eye of the Storm

November 2nd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

A previous article called peace in Ukraine a convenient illusion. September Minsk protocol agreed on terms didn't end fighting.

On October 29, the Washington Post headlined "Donetsk airport: From a shiny testament of hope to a burned-out hulk," saying:

"(I)ntense fighting continues despite a nearly eight-week-old cease-fire." Its ongoing after both sides agreed to lay down arms.

Reflecting unresolved conflict between Southeastern Ukrainian freedom fighters and Kiev fascist putschists.

"For now, (fighting) rages as the tenuous cease-fire persists, in name if not in actuality."

Moscow's NATO ambassador Alexander Grusko accused Alliance members of suppressing Kiev violations of Minsk protocol ceasefire terms.

Global War and Peace: Insanity’s Quagmire

November 2nd, 2014

Dr. Mahboob A. Khawaja

In a knowledge-based age, contemporary world is fraught with perpetuated violence and killings to undermine the sustainability of mankind’s future. Complex societal conflicts need rational and flexible strategies using men of new ideas, diplomacy and peaceful means to conflict management. War is not a prelude to peacemaking. The sadistic warriors - the global warlords are using obsessive power to victimize the global humanity. In the latest issue of Foreign Policy, Tim Roemer (“The Threats We Forget” Foreign Policy: 10/24/2104) notes the remarks of the new Geneva based UN High Commissioner for Human Rights comparing the Islamic State and Ebola as the "twin plagues" unleashed upon the world. IS, the terrorist group which is gaining territory in Iraq and Syria and trying to create a "house of blood"; and Ebola, which is spreading in West Africa and other parts of the world, are "two monumental crises" that the world must face together.”

The Day Israel Attacked America

November 2nd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

One ally attacking another willfully is unheard of. Israel violated its special relationship.

What James Petras called "the first (instance) in modern history in which the imperial country cover(ed) up a deliberate major military assault by a supposed ally."

He referred to the 1967 USS Liberty attack. An intelligence-gathering ship. On June 8. In international waters. About 25.5 nautical miles northwest of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

During Israel's Six Day War. Killing 34 crew members. Wounding 171 others. Causing severe vessel damage.

Deployed to monitor belligerents' communications. After Israel's premeditated attack on Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq.

War Resumes in Ukraine - Ukraine’s President Says All Ukrainians Who Reject His Government Should Die

Ukraine Violates Ceasefire Agreement w. Russia and OSCE, Re-Invades Its East

On October 30th, the Novorossian press agency announced that on the prior day, Ukrainian troops had resumed their heavy shelling of towns in the former Luhansk and Donetsk Republics, two regions which had been joined together as a new nation Novorussia, and which had originally been Ukraine’s Luhansk and Donetsk administrative districts, bordering with Russia.

This shelling went way beyond merely violating the ceasefire agreement, and the Ukrainian Government was now in open and public violation of it, and in public contempt of it. Ukraine had signed in Minsk Belarus an agreement on September 5th, the Minsk Protocol, along with the leaders of those two breakaway regions, and also with Russia’s Ukrainian Ambassador, and with the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) as the monitor of compliance with this agreement. However, now, the Ukrainian Government is no longer pretending to be complying with it. On October 29th, Russia’s RIA Novosti press agency bannered, ”Kiev Withdraws From Delineation Agreement With East Ukraine: DPR,” and reported that “Kiev has withdrawn from the delineation agreement it signed with Donetsk authorities without any explanation, the deputy prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said.” There was no announcement yet from the Ukrainian Government, however.

Does Glenn Greenwald Believe in Santa Claus?

I have two stories for you. Tell me which one is more believable.

A) The most powerful organized crime boss in New York City invested tens of millions of dollars to launch a hard hitting newspaper that will investigate all levels of crime in the city. A crew of crime reporters came on board. Along with the owner, they insisted that there were no barriers to their investigations.

B) One of the world's wealthiest men with a history funding programs in tandem with U.S. foreign and intelligence interests, invested tens of millions of dollars to launch a hard hitting, web based independent journalism group. A crew of seasoned journalists came on board. Along with the owner, they insisted that there were no barriers to their investigations.

Which story is true? A -- B -- None of the above?

Fed Ends QE

November 1st, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

On October 29, A Federal Reserve press release said in part:

The Open Market Committee (FOMC) "decided to conclude its (QE) asset purchase program this month." It's "maintaining its existing policy of reinvesting principal payments from its holdings of agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities in agency mortgage-backed securities and of rolling over maturing Treasury securities at auction." "This policy, by keeping the Committee's holdings of longer-term securities at sizable levels, should help maintain accommodative financial conditions."

Months earlier, former Reagan administration Office of Management and Budget Director David Stockman called QE "high grade monetary heroin." One day, it'll "kill the patient," he said.

Slavery Is Now Being Put into Practice by the Ukrainian Government: Results from Ukraine’s New Law for Government-Imposed Slavery (And How Western ‘News’ Media Have Hidden All of This from You)

November 1st, 2014

Eric Zuesse

On September 26th, I headlined “Ukraine Government Officially Introduces Slavery, with Vague Terms,” and I wondered when and where the reports of the consequences of this new law (by a newly installed U.S.-ally government, no less) would be published. An answer to that question is finally starting to appear.

On October 30th was published at:

http://fortruss.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-right-sector-reign-of-terror-over.html “The Right Sector Reign of Terror over Ukrainian Villages.”

The motto of this site, Fort Russ, is, “Read What Russians Read.”

My original news-report, the one about the new law, was based on a press release from the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy (about which that Russian article regarding what are actually the consequences of this new law says nothing, not even mentioning the law).

Cracks in US/Israeli Special Relationship?

November 1st, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

On March 25, 1948, Harry Truman met secretly with Chaim Weizmann. He later served as 2nd Chairman of the Provisional State Council of Israel and its first president. A largely ceremonial post.

Truman pledged support for the future Jewish state. Minutes after midnight on May 15, 1948, America was the first country to extend recognition.

A special relationship began. Thereafter it grew financially, politically, militarily, diplomatically, and counterproductively.

On many issues mattering most, the Israeli tail wags the US dog. Whether or not Washington's interests are served.

Israel benefits most. America loses more than it gains. Serious reassessment is needed. It's long overdue. Both countries threaten world peace. United they endanger humanity.

Ballots or Bullets: Democracy and World Power

October 31st, 2014

James Petras

Introduction

The principal reason why Washington engages in military wars, sanctions and clandestine operations to secure power abroad is because its chosen clients cannot and do not win free and open elections.

A brief survey of recent election outcomes testify to the electoral unattractiveness of Washington backed clients. The majority of democratic electorates rejects candidates and parties which back the US global agenda: neo-liberal economic policies; a highly militarized foreign policy; Israeli colonization and annexation of Palestine; the concentration of wealth in the financial sector; the military escalation against China and Russia. While the US policy attempts to re-impose the pillage and dominance of the 1990’s via recycled client regimes the democratic electorates want to move on toward less bellicose, more inclusive governments, which restore labor and welfare rights.

America's Rogue Agenda

October 31st, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Cold-blooded ruthlessness defines US policy. Giving pure evil new meaning. Tyrannical. Merciless. Brutal. Barbaric. Lawless. Stopping at nothing to achieve imperial aims.

Instituting homeland police state state rule. Spurning fundamental rule of law of law principles. Mocking human and civil rights. Making democracy pure fantasy.

Sponsoring state terrorism. Intimidating, threatening, and otherwise pressuring other nations to comply with its will. Obey or else is policy.

Waging war on humanity. Targeting all sovereign independent states for regime change. Wanting pro-Western stooge governance replacing them.

Wanting control of world resources. Wanting ordinary people exploited as serfs. Waging wars without mercy to achieve aims.
