Obama’s Covert Drone War on Syria

September 9th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Obama’s war on Syria is in its fifth year - naked aggression partnered with Israel, Britain, France, Canada and rogue regional states, using imported death squad foot soldiers against a sovereign independent country threatening no others.

On September 1, the Washington Post headlined “US launches secret drone campaign to hunt Islamic State leaders in Syria.”

False!! IS leaders and foot soldiers are US enlisted proxies - funded, armed, trained, directed and deployed cross-border against the Assad government.

Washington’s bombing campaign (including use of drones) targets Syrian infrastructure, as well as providing air support for IS and other imported terrorist fighters.

Refugee Crisis Straight Talk

September 9th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Official accounts from Washington and European capitals along with duplicitous major media reports suppress what’s most important to know.

Volumes are written without a single explanation of why a refugee crisis exists in the first place, what should be done about it, and most important, how to prevent future ones.

Millions fleeing troubled lands aren’t migrants. They’re refugees and asylum seekers - desperately seeking safe havens anywhere out of harm’s way.

Washington bears full responsibility for the gravest refugee crisis since WW II - because of its devastating post-9/11 wars. Resolving the problem isn’t rocket science.

The Two Faces of Capitalism and Left Options

September 8th, 2015

James Petras

Introduction

Rightwing politics now dominate the globe. Broadly speaking, the Right can be divided into a US-centered rightwing bloc and a variety of anti-US rightwing regimes and social forces.

The US-centered rightwing includes absolutist monarchies, like Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States and Jordan; neoliberal electoral regimes and opposition parties in the European Union and Latin America and the military dictatorships of North and Sub-Sahara Africa and Thailand. Finally, there are US-armed and trained terrorists operating in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen – which make up a kind of extra-parliamentary US-centered political force. Israel is a special case of a rightwing regime, allied with the US, which acts more independently to pursue its own colonial priorities and hegemonic ambitions.

The anti-US rightwing includes capitalist China and Russia; the nationalist, Islamist and secular republics of Iran, Syria and Lebanon; and the armed and civilian Islamist mass movements of the Middle East, East and West Africa and South and Southeast Asia.

US-Led Western Nations Plan Escalated War on Syria

September 8th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Obama’s proxy war on Syria is in its fifth year - using Islamic State and other takfiri terrorists as proxy foot soldiers, supported by US terror bombing of Syrian infrastructure targets on the phony pretext of defeating ISIS.

Britain, Canada and Israel are involved, complicit in Washington’s campaign against Assad - their warplanes covertly terror bombing Syrian infrastructure targets along with America’s.

UK SAS special forces masquerading as ISIS fighters operate covertly on the ground - likely with their US and Israeli counterparts. Full-blown US-led Western war on Assad looms - Libya 2.0. In mid-August, Israeli media reported IDF preparations for possible Golan Heights ground operations in Syrian territory - readied to respond if its military attacks Israel, a likely false flag scheme for anti-Assad aggression if ordered.

Israel’s War on Refugees

September 8th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

America and Israel are two of the world’s least welcoming countries for refugees. Both nations share responsibility for the human flood overwhelming Europe. Yet neither does much to help.

In the past year, only around 1,000 desperate people fleeing countries ravaged by US wars were granted asylum in America. Israel only accepts Jewish refugees.

Muslims from countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen aren’t wanted - victims of US imperial wars, Israel partnering in its regional aggression.

On Sunday, Netanyahu said “(w)e will not allow Israel to be submerged by a wave of illegal migrants and terrorist activists.”

Holding Netanyahu Accountable: A Good Start, not Enough

September 8th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

As of Sunday, September 6, an online petition demanding Netanyahu’s arrest on arrival in London this week has over 103,000 signatures - many more added daily.

The campaign will stay active until February 2016. Perhaps it’ll attract two or three times the current number of supporters by then, maybe a chance to reach half a million.

It sends a message. No one is above the law. Violators must be held accountable - to the highest levels of government.

During his stay, Netanyahu will be feted, not arrested. An array of war criminals parade through Western capitals, mostly from other Western countries.

U.S. Drops Bombs; EU Gets Refugees & Blame. This is insane.

September 8th, 2015

Eric Zuesse, originally posted at strategic-culture.org

Starting in 2011 in Libya, the United States dropped bombs on Libya in order to replace its pro-Russian dictator, Muammar Gaddafi. The EU is now tearing itself apart with guilt-feelings at European nations’ responses to the refugee-crisis that was caused by this American bombing-campaign in Libya, and then by the one in Syria. Europe has also received refugees from the American-sponsored bombing-campaign in eastern Ukraine (the bombing-campaign that the 2014 American-installed anti-Russian Ukrainian government calls an ‘Anti-Terrorist Operation,’ or ‘ATO,’ which labels the residents in that pro-Russian area — where the residents reject the February 2014 U.S. coup — as ‘Terrorists’ and thus as being suitable to be bombed, and even firebombed).

Israel to Demolish 13,000 Palestinian Structures

September 8th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Longstanding Israeli policy calls for Judaizing Palestine, ethnically cleansing non-Jews, continuing slow-motion genocide against Muslims, and prohibiting Palestinian self-determination.

The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) says nothing demonstrates Israel’s racist policy “more graphically than…house demolitions” - over 46,000 Palestinian owned homes and other structures destroyed since June 1967, to facilitate exclusive Jewish development on stolen land.

A new UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) report is titled “Under Threat: Demolition Orders in Area C of the West Bank” - comprising over 60% of its land, including its valued water resources and most agricultural areas.

Ukraine Declares Russia a Military Adversary

September 8th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Ukraine is a US-installed fascist dictatorship waging war on its own people. Russia is a democratic country promoting world peace and stability.

In May 2014, former US Assistant Defense Secretary/Deputy NATO Secretary-General (its de facto boss) Alexander Vershbow declared Russia a Western enemy, saying:

US-dominated NATO “view(s) Russia…as more of an adversary than a partner.” The Alliance will “defend the sovereignty and freedom of choice of Russia’s neighbors.”Vershbow lied claiming Moscow “tri(es) to reimpose hegemony and limit (the) sovereignty (of neighboring states) under the guise of a defense of the Russian world.”

More Lawless US Sanctions on Russia

September 7th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Nations unilaterally or collectively may not impose sanctions on other countries, individuals, businesses or organizations. International law permits only Security Council members to impose them.

America’s odious history reflects abuse of power on an unprecedented scale. Illegally imposing sanctions is one of its many crimes - again against Russia for the fourth time since March 2014, for fabricated reasons relating to Ukraine, not legitimate ones.

Design Bureau, Rosoboronexport, Russian Aircraft Corporation and other companies were targeted. Russia’s Foreign Ministry responded sharply to Washington’s latest salvo, saying:“The expansion of sanctions list announced by Washington on September 2 which includes Russian companies and organizations, as well as several legal entities with Russian participation outside of our country, is not just another demonstration of US administration’s inability to appropriately assess the situation in Ukraine.”
