Gloomy Putin World View Comments

December 26th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Putin’s straightforwardness make his remarks in interviews and addresses important to note. Despite his continued efforts for normalized East/West relations, Washington remains a major stumbling block.

Obama and John Kerry say one thing. US policy is entirely different, including pressuring other nations to go along with its agenda, no matter the harm to their self-interest.

“Europe’s problem is that it doesn’t have an independent foreign policy,” Putin explained. Its nations refuse to assert their sovereign rights when it comes to East/West relations, bowing to Washington’s will.

On Monday, EU officials announced renewed sanctions on Russia for another six months. According to the European Council web site, “(o)n 21 December 2015, the Council prolonged EU economic sanctions against Russia until 31 July 2016.”

No objections were made to a decision taken in Brussels on Friday. Moscow maintains its own embargo on various EU agricultural products in response.

US Warplanes Bomb Iraqi Forces

December 26th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

US rules of engagement violate core international laws - attacking nonbelligerent nations threatening no one, mercilessly slaughtering civilians, dismissing what it deplorably calls “collateral damage.”

Human lives aren’t “collateral.” They too precious to be needlessly lost. In Iraq and Syria, Washington maintains the fiction of combating ISIS and other terrorist groups.

It’s at war with both countries without declaring it, waging lawless aggression - striking Syrian armed forces two weeks earlier, inflicting casualties as well as destruction of arms, munitions and vehicles.

On December 18, US warplanes attacked Iraqi forces in Fallujah, combating ISIS. According to Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee head Hakim al-Zamili:

“Thirty soldiers from the Iraqi Army's 55 brigade were killed and 20 were injured in a US airstrike on the town of al-Naimiya in the al-Fallujah province.”

Putin Has More Tricks Up His Sleeve in Combating Terrorism

December 26th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

No one paying attention to his involvement in Syria against ISIS and other terrorist groups needs convincing about Russia’s formidable military capability.

On Saturday, addressing a reception to mark Security Agency Worker’s Day, he said in less than so many words, you ain’t seen nothin yet. More on this below.

He thanked and expressed admiration for attending professionals - for “reliably protecting Russia’s sovereignty and national integrity and the lives of our citizens, who are ready to perform the most complicated, responsible and dangerous assignments.”“These have always been the qualities that distinguished employees of Russia’s security services. On this day, we invariably remember the many generations of our predecessors who served our Motherland with honor.”

Assad to Visit Tehran

December 25th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

In October, Assad visited Moscow - unannounced for security reasons, flown on a Russian aircraft. It was his first foreign trip since Obama launched war on Syria in March 2011.

His second trip abroad is imminent, this one publicly announced. Fars News and other Iranian media said he’s coming in late December or early January.

For security reasons, he’ll be escorted by four Russian fighter planes. Washington and its coalition partners were alerted - told to stand down and not interfere. Russian aircraft have orders to “fire at will at any incoming aircraft,” said Fars News. Assad will travel through Iraqi airspace en route to Tehran where he’ll meet with top Iranian officials.

Details of his trip will be announced later. Both countries are valued allies. Iran supports Syria’s war on ISIS and other terrorist groups. Talks will focus mainly on progress achieved and objectives to accomplish, with continued help from Tehran.

"NATO Has Moved to a War Footing Against Russia"

December 25th, 2015

LAROUCHEPAC

After being caught completely flat-footed by Russian President Putin's strategic flanking operation in Syria, announced on Sept. 30, the British Empire and President Obama have launched an ongoing string of direct military attacks and provocations against Russia which are escalating by the day.
They have done this through wholly-owned subsidiaries such as ISIS (which looks more and more like a branch of London's Dope, Inc.), the Turkish government, Saudi Arabia, etc. Consider a brief chronology:

* Oct. 31: Russia's Metrojet was blown up over the Sinai by ISIS.

* Nov. 24: Turkey downed a Russian SU-24 inside Syria, with clear Obama approval and malice aforethought. President Putin today took receipt of the plane's black box, which Russian and Syrian forces managed to recover, announcing that it would only be opened in the presence of international experts, and that it would show that the plane had been struck in Syrian air space.

Extinction is Forever

December 25th, 2015

Robert J. Burrowes

Robert J. Burrowes Extinction is Forever What do the Pyrenean ibex, St. Helena olive, Baiji dolphin, Liverpool pigeon, Eastern cougar, West African black rhinoceros, Formosan clouded leopard, Chinese Paddlefish, the Golden Toad and the Rockland grass skipper butterfly all have in common but which is different from the Dodo? The answer is that these species all became extinct since the year 2000, that is, in the last fifteen years. The Dodo became extinct in 1662.

The one thing that all of these species have in common is that the cause of their extinction was human beings.

If you would like to watch a video which evocatively showcases some of the extinct species of planet Earth, you can do so here: 'Toll a bell on Remembrance Day for Lost Species 30th November 2015'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT1vp5HfBq4

Turkey Smuggled Sarin Gas to Terrorists in Syria

December 25th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Turkish Republican People’s Party (CHP) opposition member Eren Erdem accused Ankara of covering up a major war crime, likely direct high-level involvement in smuggling materials used to make deadly sarin gas to ISIS and other terrorists - US proxy foot soldiers waging war on Syria.

Various attacks occurred. The most notorious targeted the Damascus Ghouta suburb in August 2013, killing and injuring scores of civilians.

At the time, then Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexandr Lubkashevich said “(w)e’re getting more new evidence that this criminal act was of a provocative nature.”

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: Portrait of a Backstabbing Pasha

December 24th, 2015

James Petras

What Makes Recep Run? The Making of a Modern Pasha

Erdoğan began his ascent to power as a social reformer in opposition to the power elite; he was a rabble-rouser for popular Islam and social welfare. Once he takes political power he enriches his family and the business elite and purges adversaries and rivals.

With political power and economic connections, he amasses personal wealth through illicit business transactions.

With political power and personal wealth, he seeks prestige and status among the Western elites by serving imperial interests: He shoots down a Russian military jet over Syrian territory and thereby threatens hundreds of Turkish businesses and loses a major source of personal enrichment. When the Russians threaten to cut off energy exports to Turkey, Erdoğan’s opponents suggest he heat his own palace and villas with cow dung this winter.

Irresponsibly Vilifying President Assad

December 24th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

He’s been Syria’s president since July 2000, overwhelmingly reelected in June 2014 in a process independent international monitors judged open, free and fair.

Syrians want no one else leading them. The longer conflict continues, the more solid his popularity. He’s all that stands in the way of a US-controlled vassal state (now with vital Russian aid), complicit with ISIS and other terrorist groups, the ultimate slow-death nightmare free people everywhere dread.

The Atlantic Council is a neocon infested think tank, founded in 1961 to support NATO’s killing machine - one of many similar US groups threatening world peace and stability.

Its solution for resolving conflict in Syria is escalating it. Frederic Hof is an Atlantic Council senior fellow, a former neocon Hillary Clinton State Department representative on Syria - militantly anti-Assad.

Washington Post editors gave him feature op-ed space. He took full advantage, vilifying Assad irresponsibly, spreading vicious lies, demanding he “step aside for the good of Syria.”

Turkey’s Erdogan: Drug Kingpin

December 23rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

In a just world, Erdogan would top Interpol’s most wanted list, along with US-led NATO leaders, Israel’s Netanyahu, and Middle East Arab despots - partners in high crimes too major to ignore.

Along with arming and providing safe havens for ISIS terrorists, supplying them with toxic chemical agents, and selling their oil on the black market, Erdogan is a major drug trafficker. Nothing significant happens in Turkey without his knowledge, approval and involvement.

RT International reported (US-protected) Afghan opium is processed into high-grade heroin in “clandestine Turkish drug labs for distribution in Europe and Russia,” - citing Moscow’s anti-drug chief as the source.
