Longstanding Hillary Clinton Ties to Monsanto

February 26th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Her presidency would be nightmarish for world peace, popular interests and what remains of fundamental freedoms, a disaster risking full-blown tyranny and global war - vital to go all-out to oppose.

Her biotech/agribusiness ties began during the 1980s as a Rose Law firm lawyer. Monsanto and Tyson Foods were clients.

During her years as first lady in the 1990s, she supported harmful to health genetically modified foods and ingredients - while banning them from White House menus.

The Clinton and Bush II families ate organic foods, free from genetic manipulation and toxic pesticides.

As Obama’s secretary of state, she heavily pressured other countries to use and import GMOs. US taxpayer money continues promoting them worldwide, ignoring food safety.

Presidential Elections 2016: The Revolt of the Masses

February 25th, 2016

James Petras

Introduction

The presidential elections of 2016 have several unique characteristics that defy common wisdom about political practices in 21st century America.

Clearly the established political machinery – party elites and their corporate backers -have (in part) lost control of the nomination process and confront ‘unwanted’ candidates who are campaigning with programs and pronouncements that polarize the electorate.

But there are other more specific factors, which have energized the electorate and speak to recent US history. These portend and reflect a realignment of US politics.

In this essay, we will outline these changes and their larger consequences for the future of American politics.

Hillary Clinton’s Global-Burning Record

February 25th, 2016

Eric Zuesse

On 17 July 2015, Paul Blumenthal and Kate Sheppard at Huffington Post bannered, “Hillary Clinton's Biggest Campaign Bundlers Are Fossil Fuel Lobbyists” and the sub-head was "Clinton's top campaign financiers are linked to Big Oil, natural gas and the Keystone pipeline.” This description of her fits for a politician who does the lobbyists’ bidding while she provides liberal rhetoric that denies she will, and so who burns-up not only the planet but the trust of the liberals who have voted for her in the mistaken belief that because her label is “Democrat” and because she makes her appeals to women, Blacks, Hispanics, and other disenfranchised groups, she’s not actually representing (just like the Republicans do) their common-enemies, which go beyond such ethnic or other groups and constitute the top-0.0001%-economic-class that’s exploiting almost the entire public — including women, Blacks, Hispanics, etc.

Bashing Russia’s Forthright Syrian Conflict Resolution Efforts

February 25th, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Washington expects negotiated cessation of hostilities in Syria failure - blaming Russia before implementation.

On February 23, the Wall Street Journal headlined “Pentagon, CIA Chiefs Don’t Think Russia Will Abide by Syria Cease-Fire” - maintaining unrelenting Russia bashing, proving again Putin has no geopolitical partner in Washington.

According to the Journal, hawkish Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, Joint Chiefs chairman General Joseph (“fighting Joe”) Dunford and rogue CIA head John Brennan “voiced increasingly tough views in White House meetings, calling for new measures to ‘inflict real pain on the Russians.’ ”

The Journal cited an unnamed senior administration official. Putin and Assad justifiably consider all anti-government forces terrorist groups, intending continued just cause war to eliminate them, the only hope for eventual Syrian liberation.

Et tu Barack? The End of Turkey’s Little Erdogan

February 25th, 2016

By Michael Collins

ettubarackpub

If Erdogan and his advisors seriously believe that they can publicly blackmail a superpower like the USA then their days are numbered. The Saker, Feb 20

Apparently, Turkish President Erdogan and his cronies failed to get the memo from The Saker. They continue to insist that the United States label as terrorists the Kurdish fighters of northern Syria known as the YPG. The YPG and the Syrian Arab Army are the only two ground forces fighting ISIS. The Kurdish YPG fighters are mopping the floor with the barbarians and control nearly the entire border region between Turkey and Syria. Even so, the Turkish government insists that the U.S. is either for Turkey by labeling the YPG as terrorists or against Turkey by supporting YPG’s efforts against ISIS. Image: WikimediaCommons

Why is the current Turkish government obsessed with the YPG? There are several reasons, none of them related to terrorism and all of them about the survival of the amazingly corrupt and repellant Erdogan, his family, and cronies in the AKP party.

What do Erdogan and company have to fear?

Scalia's Black Beemer

February 25th, 2016

Greg Palast

It was one of our team’s weirder investigative discoveries: The recently departed Justice Antonin Scalia – aleha hashalom – in 2011, was ticketed for recklessly driving his black BMW.

To his family, I offer condolences. To my readers, I offer the facts. A man's soul must be laid to rest, but history must not be buried as well, especially now that the Justice's passing has become grounds for stories that border on historical obscenity, cf. the New York Times "Liberal Love for Antonin Scalia".

Love?? Well, if you want a Valentine, this ain't it.

There's been a lot of gleeful chuckling, for example, about Scalia's courtroom bench "humor." But behind his jokey comments lay a cruelty aimed at the poor, the injured, the Beemer-less class that turns to the Court as the last hope for protection against corporate and state violence.

Europe is following Obama - washing its hands of Palestine and why

February 24th, 2016

Alan Hart

My headline is a response to recent comments made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a joint press conference in Berlin with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the decision of the Cameron government in the UK to make boycotting goods from "Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank" by publicly-funded bodies including local councils and universities a criminal offence. Much to the delight of Netanyahu who has rejected a French initiative to convene a regional conference to try to get a peace process going, Merkel said, "Now is certainly not the time to make really comprehensive progress."

How Turkey supports the jihadists

Russia questioned the future of Turkey when it delivered to the Security Council an intelligence report concerning Turkey’s activities in support of jihadists. The document includes about ten revelations which implicate the activities of the MIT. The problem is that each of the operations listed refers back to operations in which the same actors worked with the United States or their allies against Russia. This information adds to that which is already available concerning the personal connections between President Erdoğan and the Al-Qaïda banker, and the information about Erdoğan’s son and the illegal use of the oil stolen by Daesh.

Russia delivered to the members of the UN Security Council an intelligence report concerning the activities of Turkey which support the jihadists operating in Syria [1]. The document lists about ten facts, each one of which violates one or several Council Resolutions. (Image:thierry ehrmann)

By doing so, Russia puts the Council, and, by extension, several other inter-governmental organisations, face to face with their responsibilities. By law, the Council should ask for corresponding proof of these assertions and pressure Turkey for explanations. In the event that Turkey should be found guilty, the Council would have to decide which sanctions should be adopted under chapter VII of the Charter, in other words, by resorting to force. From their side, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation would have to exclude this gangster-state from their ranks, while the European Union would have to halt Turkey’s negotiations for membership.

Epilogue: Argentina The End of Post Neoliberalism and the Rise of the Hard Right

February 22nd, 2016

James Petras

Introduction

The class struggle from above found its most intense , comprehensive and retrograde expression in Argentina, with the election of Mauricio Macri (December 2015). During the first two months in office, through the arbitrary assumption of emergency powers, he reversed, by decree, a multitude of progressive socio-economic policies passed over the previous decade and sought to purge public institutions of independent voices.

Facing a hostile majority in Congress, he seized legislative powers and proceeded to name two Supreme Court judges in violation of the Constitution.

President Macri purged all the Ministries and agencies of perceived critics and appointees of the previous government and replaced those officials with loyalist neo-liberal functionaries. Popular movement leaders were jailed, and former Cabinet members were prosecuted.

Americans Mindless About the Grave Dangers They Face

February 22nd, 2016

Stephen Lendman

Never before in history has the danger of possible humanity destroying nuclear war been greater. Fundamental rights Americans think they have don’t exist.

They’re deplorably out-of-touch, the most over-entertained, uninformed people anywhere, controlled by neocon infested bipartisan governance, lunatics threatening their welfare, security and world peace.

Public ignorance is shocking, why America gets away with high crimes at home and abroad. Lawless interventionism is longstanding policy. .Endless US wars on humanity rage. Human and civil rights are fast eroding en route toward disappearing altogether. Police state injustice rules, tyranny by any standard, heading toward becoming full-blown.

Anyone considered a threat to regime authority risks arrest, imprisonment or death. Thousands of political prisoners languish in America’s homeland gulag, the world’s largest, one of its most brutal - supplemented by global torture prisons, Guantanamo the tip of the iceberg, what media scoundrels never report.
