PUBLIC OPTION DEAD / KILLED BY GREED, FEAR AND APATHY

August 28th, 2009

Allen L Roland

Single Pay became the Public Option and is now apparently dead and buried by Big Pharma and its Insurance Lobbyists ~ killed by Greed, Fear and Public Apathy. Obama has failed to effectively lead, has sold out his progressive base and has, in the process, set the stage for a one term Presidency:

The three stumbling blocks to all political reform Greed, Fear and Apathy, have finally seemingly buried the Public Option ( along with the progressive movement ) and the Insurance Industry is rejoicing ~ but it may be premature.

The death of Progressive lion Ted Kennedy just might rally the Democrats ( by renaming the Public Option The Kennedy Health Plan ) and some form of meaningful reform may yet be accomplished ~ but Greed, Fear and voter Apathy still remain formidable barriers.

Early and Current Fears about Vaccine Dangers

August 28th, 2009

by Stephen Lendman

Given today's hysteria over a non-existent Swine Flu threat and possible mandating of experimental, untested, toxic, and likely bioengineered vaccines, it's appropriate to review early fears about their dangers - when evidence first surfaced and concerns were raised.

In 1920, Charles Michael Higgins' "Horrors of Vaccination Exposed and Illustrated: Petition to the President to Abolish Compulsory Vaccination in Army and Navy" (now available in a new 2008 edition) issued a "Public Challenge to Health Departments" in citing "Deaths from Vaccination Denied and Concealed - More Deaths from Vaccination than from Smallpox," then continued:

THE ITALIAN CINEMA AND THE LEFT On Rediscovering Roberto Rossellini-Filmmaker

August 28th, 2009

By Gaither Stewart

After having had his say about Italy, Europe and war and peace, Rossellini
went to India to satisfy his inexhaustible curiosity. In his film, India, he no
longer dealt in the particular but strove toward a global vision.

(Rome) The story of Roberto Rossellini is a very Italian story, encompassing Italy in change from the Fascist period and, reaching beyond his lived life, until 2009. Though Europe is not Europe without Italy, Rossellini’s story, in the strictest sense, is a very Italian story; not an European story. For Italy, separated from the rest of Europe by the Alps, is, and perhaps always has been, something apart, still today considered by North Europeans an exotic place to escape to. As is popularly said, Italy is a wonderful place to visit but hell to live in. The story of Roberto Rossellini deals with that paradox. Read Roberto Rossellini and think Italy of the past 75 years.

STEALING PARTS OF PALESTINE AND STEALING BODY PARTS

August 28th, 2009

William C. Carlotti

What is the Jewish Zionist led, Christian Zionist supported Israeli government doing now and what has it been doing for the past (60) sixty years?

The Zionist led Israeli government is bombing, strafing, shooting the people of Palestine using cluster bombs, depleted uranium coated bombs and shells, white phosphorous bombs fired from F-16 supersonic jet planes, from helicopter gunships, from remote operated, unmanned drone airplanes and from huge Abrams tanks; using behemoth bulldozers supplied by Caterpillar to demolish more than a thousand Palestinian homes and eradicate hundreds of whole villages and towns; crush thousands of hectares of decades old olive and orange orchids; they fly their supersonic jets low over the Palestinian population and break the sound barrier to create the sonic boom that has deafened hundreds of vulnerable Palestinian children; they are building ghetto style armed Jewish settlements all over the territory of the West Bank sector of Palestine on the high ground and hilltops; they restrict the water, the electricity, the medical care, the sewage, the education, the employment, the travel, the communications and every facet of the lives of the people of Palestine; they make targeted assassinations of the selected and elected representatives chosen by the people of Palestine killing dozens of other people in the process; they have confiscated court, land and title records that confirm the property rights of the people of Palestine; they are building a wall that recreates their ghetto existence armed to the teeth with nuclear bombs and chemical and biological weapons: they have driven millions of the people of Palestine off of the land of their forebears, they hold thousands of Palestinians, not only men but also women and children in prison many of whom are tortured and others are killed and buried in numbered graves at obscure graveyards.

Open Letter to Congressmen Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, and to Sen. Jim Webb On Inhuman CIA Torture- Interrogation

August 27th, 2009

Peter Chamberlin

Congressman Paul, we are writing you concerning the investigation into the abusive inhuman torture tactics used for interrogation by the US Army, under the direction of the CIA. Widespread public outrage over the official “unofficial” hypocrisy of fighting a “war on terror,” driven on torture-based intelligence, demands that these investigations are both legitimate and transparent, and not just another cover-up or whitewash, like the 911 “investigation.”

Appeasing Israel—At What Cost?

August 27th, 2009

by Jeff Gates

Barack Hussein Obama’s June 4th speech in Cairo was awaited with keen anticipation by a global population of 1.3 billion Muslims outraged at the abuse that Zionism has long inflicted on its neighbors—with U.S. support. Ten weeks have since passed. The potentially positive impact of his remarks was immediately offset when he appeared the next day at the Buchenwald death camp in Germany. The timing of that Holocaust photo-op resolved all doubts about who stage-manages this presidency.

Media attention immediately shifted back to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the lead-up to the Cairo speech, Obama’s White House handlers enabled this right-winger to proclaim—from the White House—that peace with the Palestinians ranked a distant second to Tel Aviv’s concerns about Iran. Soon after the Cairo speech, Netanyahu reluctantly referenced a “two state solution”—though only under duress from Middle East envoy George Mitchell. Obama quickly portrayed as an “important step forward” this grudging referral to an agreed-to strategy.

Remember Ted Kennedy

August 27th, 2009

by Doug Drenkow

Love him or loathe him, Sen. Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy was an undeniably great public figure. But his greatness did not spring from who he was -- the surviving one of four, larger-than-life brothers of a powerful American family -- but from what he did -- champion the rights of all Americans, including those not born to such wealth and privilege.

Ted Kennedy was not African American, Hispanic American, Native American, or Asian American. But he championed the Voting Rights and Fair Housing laws, immigration laws, and other legislation advancing civil rights, what he called "the still unfinished business of America."

Rights groups mourn the loss of Ted Kennedy

August 27th, 2009

Mary Shaw

Human rights and civil rights groups are mourning the death of their staunch ally Senator Edward ("Ted") Kennedy.

At its 2008 annual dinner, Human Rights First had honored Senator Kennedy as a lifelong champion of human rights. Upon his death this week, Elisa Massimino, the group's First Chief Executive Officer, shared the following comments:

"Human Rights First mourns the passing of our cherished friend Senator Ted Kennedy, and extends our deepest condolences to his family, his colleagues, and his many friends. Senator Kennedy spent nearly 50 years championing the cause of human rights. He was a voice for the voiceless and a true advocate for the fundamental rights of all people -- Americans, as well as those beyond our shores, including refugees and immigrants, victims of armed conflict, and political prisoners in all corners of the globe. Senator Kennedy's belief in the inherent dignity of all people, combined with his drive to ensure that the United States lived up to its potential to advance that concept at home and throughout the world, animated every battle he fought in his long and distinguished career. We have lost a tireless ally, but the lessons we all learned from him -- about perseverance, principle, and how to make progress towards a world in which all people can live in dignity and freedom -- will ensure that his legacy lasts forever. We will miss him greatly."

How Israel Wages Game Theory Warfare

August 26th, 2009

by Jeff Gates

In 2005, the Nobel Prize in Economic Science was awarded to Israeli mathematician and game theory specialist Robert J. Aumann, co-founder of the Center for Rationality at Hebrew University. This Jerusalem resident explains: “the entire school of thought that we have developed here in Israel” has turned “Israel into the leading authority in this field.”

Israeli strategists rely on game theory models to ensure the intended response to staged provocations and manipulated crises. With the use of game theory algorithms, those responses become predictable, even foreseeable—within an acceptable range of probabilities. The waging of war “by way of deception” is now a mathematical discipline.

Such “probabilistic” war planning enables Tel Aviv to deploy serial provocations and well-timed crises as a force multiplier to project Israeli influence worldwide. For a skilled agent provocateur, the target can be a person, a company, an economy, a legislature, a nation or an entire culture—such as Islam. With a well-modeled provocation, the anticipated reaction can even become a powerful weapon in the Israeli arsenal.

The Worth Of The Individual

August 26th, 2009

By Emily Spence

Two dialectically opposed, prevailing theories are that large scale events (such as wars, famines, plagues, and so on) shape the course of history and, counterpoised, singular beings (like Napoleon Bonaparte, Henry Ford, Adolf Hitler, Mohandas Gandhi, etc.) do so. This, of course, is like arguing over which came first -- the chicken or the egg, as happenings mold people and people can, largely, direct outcomes. Anyone doubting the interplay need only consider the experiences (including the ones involved in the teaching of parental values) that influenced the life defining choices of Hugo Chávez and George Bush, Jr.

In this vein, the options that individuals elect to take, in an irrevocable fashion, change the way that the future unfolds. Nothing would quite be the same without each and every one of us contributing whatever we foist into the world at large, regardless of whether these affect offspring or create change on some larger scale, as did the decision made by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets, Jr., when he gave the order to release Little Boy from the bowels of Enola Gay.
