The Fort Hood Murders/Suicide and the Taboo Question

November 30th, 2009

Gary G. Kohls, MD

Most of us have been listening to the massive, round-the-clock press coverage of the latest mass shooting incident at Fort Hood, Texas. Seemingly all the possible root causes of such a horrific act of violence have been raised and discussed. However, there is an elephant in the room, and it’s something that should be obvious in this age of the school shooter pandemic.

We should be outraged at the failure of the investigative journalists, the psychiatric professionals, the medical community and the military spokespersons who seem to be studiously avoiding the major factor that helps to explain these senseless acts. Why would someone unexpectedly, irrationally and randomly shoot up a school, a workplace or, in this case, an army post? Why would someone who used to be known as a seemingly rational person suddenly perpetrate a gruesome, irrational act of violence?

The Folly of the Afghan War... and of War Memorials

November 30th, 2009

by Christopher Hedges

"the old lie of honor and glory"

War memorials and museums are temples to the god of war. The hushed voices, the well-tended grass, the flapping of the flags allow us to ignore how and why our young died. They hide the futility and waste of war. They sanitize the savage instruments of death that turn young soldiers and Marines into killers, and small villages in Vietnam or Afghanistan or Iraq into hellish bonfires. There are no images in these memorials of men or women with their guts hanging out of their bellies, screaming pathetically for their mothers. We do not see mangled corpses being shoved in body bags. There are no sights of children burned beyond recognition or moaning in horrible pain. There are no blind and deformed wrecks of human beings limping through life. War, by the time it is collectively remembered, is glorified and heavily censored.

A Night Unto The Nations

November 29th, 2009

Gilad Atzmon

In his latest Haarertz commentary, the Israeli political analyst Yoel Marcus wonders “How Israel became a night unto the nations?” Marcus is obviously nostalgic about the days where the great powers “were not only sympathetic to Israel's establishment, but admired its valor in repulsing the Arab states' onslaught.”

Proudly he mentions the ‘renowned foreign journalists’ who came to Israel in 1948 and wrote “glowing reports about this war of David against Goliath”. Noticeably, Marcus fails to mention or to grasp that the expulsion of the indigenous Palestinians from their villages and cities wasn’t exactly a repetition of a ‘David against Goliath’ narrative. Quite the opposite, it was a story of a young organised Jewish army that ethnically cleansed a defenseless civilian population consisting mainly of peasants.

THE HEART IS THE MASTER / MIND IS THE SERVANT

November 29th, 2009

Allen L Roland

The mind is always looking for answers that the soul already knows thus synchronistic events are the vague awareness that our lives are divinely guided from the heart ~ and only the ego stands in the way this great inner wisdom:

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my life is divinely guided by my heart and when I fully surrender to love I enter a Unified Field of soul consciousness where there are no accidents. Synchronistic events are reminders of this universal truth.

By fully surrendering to love many years ago and falling through a rabbit hole to another state of consciousness ~ I found and embraced a child within myself who always wanted to love that deeply and who had an intentioned destiny to fulfill as well as a song to sing.

What festive cheer will the West bring to the Holy Land this Christmas?

November 29th, 2009

Stuart Littlewood

The UK is now in the grip of festive fever as the nation prepares for the customary annual binge called Christmas. Despite the recession families are being urged to spend, spend, spend on an excess of food and alcohol and extravagant presents. For them there is also the luxury of unrestricted travel to see relatives or take a foreign holiday.

A far cry from the kind of Christmas that’s possible in the illegally occupied and blockaded territories of the Holy Land…

Two years ago, in the run-up to Christmas 2007, I had just returned from Gaza and the West Bank. With tears of rage in my eyes I addressed these remarks to Britain’s prime minister, Gordon Brown:

Is there any real chance of averting the climate crisis?

November 29th, 2009

By James Hansen

Professor James Hansen is director of Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York. His latest book is Storms of My Grandchildren.

Nasa's James Hansen was the first to point out the perils of climate change to the US Congress. Here, he begins a heated debate with experts from around the world, from China to the threatened Maldives, and argues that our leaders must be shaken out of their complacency. But will they show enough courage at next week's Copenhagen summit to take the first steps to saving the planet?

The Climate Summit in Copenhagen Must Be Cancelled!

November 29th, 2009

by Helga Zepp-LaRouche

Cancel the Copenhagen Climate Summit! This statement was released by the Civil Rights Solidarity Movement (BüSo), a German political party, on Nov. 27, and has been translated from German.

The Climate Summit in Copenhagen, which is to take place from Dec. 6 to 18, and in which 193 nations, approximately 65 heads of government, and up to 20,000 delegates are to participate, is based on a gigantic fraud, and must immediately be cancelledâ€"and not only to save the substantial expenses for this neo-malthusian propaganda event, whose real aim consists in establishing a de facto world government.

Jared Diamond’s Noble Savage Collapse

November 29th, 2009

by Robert Singer

Jean-Jacques Rousseau in his early writing contended that man is essentially good, a "noble savage" when in the "state of nature" (the state of all the other animals, and the condition man was in before the creation of civilization and society), and that good people are made unhappy and corrupted by their experiences in society. He viewed society as "artificial" and "corrupt" and that the furthering of society results in the continuing unhappiness of man.

Put another way, in the beginning civilized humans were hunters and gatherers, when we started wearing clothes made out of cotton, using deodorant, living in houses and using toilet paper we became savages.

The only difference between civilized “savages” and 20th century man is we used our opposing thumb to conquer Mother Earth.

Posts, blogs and comments just don’t disappear. Posts, blogs and comments are Scrubbed…from the Internet

November 29th, 2009

by Robert Singer

The “predators of data freedom” were stalking the Internet before 9/11 but after the alleged “Arab terrorist” attack their chutzpah seems to have no limits.

Here is one of my favorite scrub stories. It happened in April of 2009, when Googling the title of my article, Preparing for World War III: August 15, 1871, I came across a thread at AboveTopSecret in the [HOAX!] alternative topics forum.

As of August 25, 2009 a search of “1871” at the ATS Hoax forum produced the following result:
