September 14th, 2010

Kourosh Ziabari

Kourosh Ziabari, Kenneth O'Keefe

Kenneth O'Keefe is a world citizen. As an anti-war activist and social entrepreneur, he renounced his U.S. citizenship on March 1, 2001 and burned his American passport on January 7, 2004 in protest to the United States' Imperialism and called for the immediate withdrawal of American forces from Iraq. O'Keefe is a former U.S. Mariner who served in the 1991 Persian Gulf War and subsequently revealed the use of depleted uranium by the United States as a crime against humanity.

O'Keefe has taken part in a number of substantial anti-war movements and served as the director of Human Shield Action to Iraq. He founded a group of activists who traveled to Iraq to act as human shields to prevent the U.S.-led coalition troops from bombing certain locations during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The Truth and Its Consequences

September 14th, 2010

By Timothy V. Gatto

The current political paradigm in the United States is untenable. This rift between left and right, liberal and conservative, Democrat and Republican is not a natural state of affairs, it is engineered. This state of affairs is fostered by those in power to divide the American people and to keep us off-balance, enmeshed in issues that have no simple solution, and that are presented as critical problems that must be decided.

The truth is that most of these issues are straw-man arguments. Let me mention some of these “critical issues”.

US endgame in Afghanistan: The evil of three lessers

September 14th, 2010

Eric Walberg

Which fork will Obama impale himself on?

In his school-boyish Oval Office “Mission accomplished!” speech 31 August, United States President Barack Obama heaped faint praise on Bush's invasion of Iraq, averring that no one could doubt Bush's support for the troops, love of his country and commitment to its security when he wrote this most "remarkable chapter in the history of the United States and Iraq". True, it was written at a "huge price" to the US (apparently it was provided free of charge for the fortunate Iraqis).

Obama Declares Another National Emergency When None Exists

September 14th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

Well, not exactly. In fact, he renewed, for the second, time, the Bush administration's 9/11 one, a White House press release saying:

"Letter from the President on the Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Certain Terrorist Attack"

"Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act, 50 USC 1622(d), provides for the automatic termination of a national emergency unless, prior to the anniversary date of its declaration, the President publishes in the Federal Register and transmits to the Congress a notice stating that the emergency is to continue in effect beyond the anniversary date. Consistent with this provision, I have sent to the Federal Register the enclosed notice, stating that the emergency declared with respect to the terrorist attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001, is to continue in effect for an additional year."

Why we love to hate conspiracy theories: 911 Truth as threat to the intelligentsia

September 13th, 2010

by Denis G. Rancourt

Especially left and liberal professionals and service intellectuals but also right-wing members of the intelligentsia vehemently attack and ridicule “conspiracy theories” such as the present 911 Truth movement.

Why?

It’s as though power did not covertly orchestrate its predation of us? Is that not the modus operandi of power?

Is it so difficult to believe that the complex and highly successful military attack on US soil that was 911 (levelling three gigantic sky scrapers, blasting a hole into the Pentagon, and destroying four commercial jets and their passengers) was not orchestrated by a religious zealot from a cave in Afghanistan and executed by failed Cessna pilot trainees with box cutters? Or that those who measurably benefited in the trillions had nothing to do with it?

Israeli Soldiers Sexually Abuse Palestinian Children

September 13th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

On September 10, Israel's YnetNews.com headlined, "IDF sexually abused Palestinian children," headlining:

"Damning (September 9) CNN report cites uncorroborated sexual abuse charges of Palestinian children detained by IDF." Military officials refused to "respond to abuse charges as no details (were) provided," a spokesman saying "We cannot address general claims on the subject in the absence of a specific complaint."

CNN's report "featured an unidentified Palestinian boy claiming that IDF forces attempted to insert an object into his rectum," and that dozens of officers present stood around laughing while it happened.

This is America, the beacon of freedom

September 13th, 2010

Kourosh Ziabari

The ninth anniversary of September 11 attacks coincided with the offensive insults of the Americans to the holiest book of 1.5 billion Muslims around the globe. According to reports by the Reuters, near Nashville, Tennessee, evangelical Pastor Bob Old and another preacher used lighter fluid and a lighter to burn at least two copies of the Quran. Old called Islam "a false religion."

It was also reported that the American protesters objecting to the construction of an Islamic center and a mosque adjacent to the Ground Zero site tore pages from the Holy Quran and set them alight. Reuters also dispatched reports from the similar abuses to the Holy Quran in Lower Manhattan.

East Jerusalem Palestinians Denied Basic Rights

September 13th, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) is the country's leading human and civil rights organization through litigation, legal advocacy, education and public outreach. Its new report is titled, "Unsafe Space: The Israeli Authorities' Failure to Protect Human Rights amid Settlements in East Jerusalem," explaining how Judaization harms basic Palestinian freedoms. In fact, the Israeli military, police, and hostile settlers deny them, ACRI saying:

Palestinians "complain of physical and verbal abuse (by police), settlers and their security guards; the intimidation of their children; various forms of harassment (including videotaping them in their homes); the barricading and closing off of streets and public areas; and more."

Mr. Obama: Thou shall not lie

September 13th, 2010

By Khalid Amayreh

In his remarks marking the passage of nine years since the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington on 11 September, 2001, President Obama said Americans ought to remain true to their values and refuse to paint all Muslims as terrorists.

“The highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most – to stay true to who we are, as Americans; to renew our sense of common purpose; to say that we define the character of our country, and we will not let the acts of some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent and cower in caves distort who we are."
