Disturbing Obamacare Inequities

October 25th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

A previous article said March 23, 2010 will live in infamy. With strokes from 22 pens, Obama enacted the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).

It's a monstrosity. Rules and regulations run thousands of pages. Providing healthcare should be simple.

ACA complicates it enormously. It's rife with inequities. Households can't possibly understand its provisions. They have no say. They're forced to comply.ACA is a scam. It's a ripoff. It's a healthcare rationing scheme. It's a boon to providers. They wrote the law. It lets them game the system for profits. It makes a dysfunctional system worse. US healthcare is outrageously expensive. It's double the cost of other developed nations.

October 24th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Professor Nader Entesaar chairs University of South Alabama's Political Science and Criminal Justice Department.

He researches and teaches defense and foreign policy issues, developing world ones (especially in the Middle East), international politics and political economy, as well as international law and conflict management.

He called Iranian President Hassan Rohani's diplomatic efforts an important step toward advancing Tehran's outreach.

In New York, he "and Foreign Minister Zarif did a masterful job of presenting Iran’s foreign policy objectives," he said.

"They both (stressed) Iran's goal of finding a peaceful solution to the nuclear impasse within a reasonably short time frame."

Israel: Major International Cocaine Trafficking Hub

October 24th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

A June UN Office on Drugs and Crime World Drug Report named Israel for its "star role." More on that below.

Israel is a serial lawbreaker. Its rap sheet already overflows. This revelation adds another reprehensible black mark.

The State Department's 2012 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report says:

"Israel’s illicit drug trade is regionally focused, with Israel as more of a transit country than a stand-alone significant market."

"The authorities continue to be concerned with illegal pharmaceutical sales, retail businesses which are suspected money-laundering enterprises, and corruption accusations against public officials."

A Few Choice Words from Immortal Technique to Mainstream Media’s War Profiteering Pundits: “Shut the Fuck Up You Mindless Drone!”

October 23rd, 2013

via chycho

In light of the latest revelations from The Public Accountability Initiative that “the media continues to present former military and government officials as venerated experts without informing the public of their industry ties – the personal financial interests that may be shaping their opinions of what is in the national interest”, I thought it would be worthwhile sharing a few choice words from one of the greatest rappers to ever grace the mic, Immortal Technique.

The following are the final words on Immortal Technique’s “The 4th Branch” from his 2003 album Revolutionary Vol. 2.

Syrian Peace Talks

October 23rd, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Obama's war on Syria rages. Opposition forces are divided. Kofi Annan's March 2012 six-point plan failed. Three months later, so did Geneva I.

June 2012 talks were called a "last ditch effort" to halt violence. Similar headlines followed Annan's plan. Fighting rages daily.
Obama bears full responsibility. He deplores peace. He wants regime change. He's supporting proxy death squads. He has been all along. They target Assad loyalists. Dozens of innocent civilians die daily. Assad's wrongfully blamed for their crimes. Nothing suggests change ahead.

US- Venezuela Relations: A Case Study of Imperialism and Anti-Imperialism

October 22nd, 2013

James Petras

US relations with Venezuela illustrate the specific mechanisms with which an imperial power seeks to sustain client states and overthrow independent nationalist governments. By examining US strategic goals and its tactical measures, we can set forth several propositions about (1) the nature and instruments of imperial politics, (2) the shifting context and contingencies influencing the successes and failures of specific policies, and (3) the importance of regional and global political alignments and priorities.[1]

Method of Analysis

A comparative historical approach highlights the different policies, contexts and outcomes of imperial policies during two distinct Presidential periods: the ascendancy of neo-liberal client regimes (Perez and Caldera) of the late 1980’s to 1998; and the rise and consolidation of a nationalist populist government under President Chavez (1999-2012).[2]

Increasing Data Collection and Surveillance in the North American Homeland

October 22nd, 2013

By Dana Gabriel

Some of the corporate interests that are steering the U.S.-Canada Beyond the Border integration agenda are not quite satisfied with its progress so far and they would like the implementation process to be accelerated. The bilateral initiative which was launched almost two years ago promotes a shared vision for perimeter security. It seeks to improve information sharing between security agencies.Under the agreement, both countries are moving towards a coordinated entry/exit system and are developing a harmonized cargo security strategy.

How to Protect Ourselves on Social Networks and from Data Collection Systems of Governments and Corporations

October 21st, 2013

via chycho

I. What’s Going On

Online, we are both a product for corporations and a person of interest to governments (2, 3).

Corporations are taking advantage of these times by changing their privacy policies so that they can track us, use us, and sell us whatever their algorithms decide that we need or want based on data they have acquired about our movements, contacts, desires, fantasies, or kinks. Governments on the other hand are using our data to make sure that we will never acquire enough power to change any policies that we deem to be a threat to our happiness, livelihood, or survival. In essence, we are at war with these organizations and we should act as such:

“…this is truly unprecedented in history. And what we’re seeing is secrecy and surveillance are completely subverting security and liberty, not just in the United States, but for many, many citizens around the world.”

Guantanamo Hunger Striking Continues

October 21st, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

In early February, detainees began hunger striking for justice. Dozens joined others. Numbers rose to about 130. Some were force-fed. Doing so constitutes torture.

Most detainees continued courageously for months. About two dozen refuse food now.

Brutalizing conditions took their toll. Force-fed strikers suffered most. Previous articles explained.

Detainees are restrained in chairs. They're called "padded cells on wheels." Masks cover their mouths.

Tubes are forced painfully through their noses and throats to their stomachs. It's done abrasively. It draws blood.
