Greece’s SYRIZA Party Splits Ahead of Snap Elections

August 24th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was widely expected to call snap elections - Greece’s fifth general election in six years.

Twenty-nine anti-austerity SYRIZA party members bolted. They’ll challenge Tsipras despite virtually no chance to prevail. They formed a new Popular Unity party headed by former energy minister/vocal Tsipras critic Panagiotis Lafazanis.

They call it a “wide, anti-memorandum (austerity), progressive democratic front that will go to the elections with the agenda to cancel all memoranda,” a statement they issued said. They accused Tsipras of breaching his anti-austerity campaign pledge. He signed a new austerity memorandum without approval of other SYRIZA members, they explained. They continued saying: “The snap elections Alexis Tsipras decided, will be held in order to bury the proud ‘no’ of the referendum. To bury the anti-memorandum struggles and anti-memorandum expectations of the people, Greek people are asked to put a noose around their necks and approve a new memorandum.”

George Soros’s Fakery

August 24th, 2015

Eric Zuesse, originally posted at strategic-culture.org

George Soros pretends to be a progressive, but he invests in and finances nazis. That’s not “Nazis” as in National Socialist Party of Germany, which was outlawed after WW II, and whose racist obsession was against Jews. Instead, it’s “nazis” as in any racist fascist ideology (any ideology of racist fascism, instead of a political Party), in any country, against any ethnic group. But George Soros happens to support only nazis (racist fascists) whose passionate hatred is specifically against Russians. His entire biography in public life has actually been that.

People used to think that he opposed merely communism, and that he was aiming to end communism in the Soviet Union, but, after it did end there in 1991, he continued, now much more clearly than before, hating Russians instead of “communists," and now doing everything he could to encourage NATO to increasingly surround that increasingly alone country, by its former Warsaw Pact allies, which would become, instead, NATO members, military bases for U.S. and other hostile forces, against Russia.

Israeli High Court Frees Muhammad Allan

August 24th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

The court suspended his illegal detention, a first step toward freeing him. More on this below.

Food provides nutrients needed to survive. Without it, energy wanes. Bodily functions break down. Starvation follows, causing disability, organ failure and death, a painful way to die.

On Wednesday, Allan ended his hunger strike after 65 excruciating days - following Israel’s High Court order suspending his indefinite detention order, lawlessly imprisoning him uncharged and untried because he committed no crimes.

Justices acted after learning he suffered brain damage from his long ordeal. He can’t see, hear or communicate. He’s conscious but remains zombie-like. He’s in intensive care at Israel’s Barzilai Medical Center on life support in serious condition.

Justices said if his brain damage is irreversible, his detention order will be revoked. It never should have been imposed in the first place.

Greek PM Calls Snap Elections

August 24th, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

On Thursday, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras resigned and announced snap elections, likely in late September - a ploy hoping for enough voter support to remain in power before ordinary Greeks feel the pain of greater austerity he agreed to after pledging no more in January.

His SYRIZA-led coalition holds a slim majority. Polls astonishingly show he remains popular - at least compared to alternative choices.

Greece is like most other nations. Monied interests rule. Ordinary people have no say. Whatever party or coalition rules, their welfare gets short shrift at best, entirely ignored at worst.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is well known for working directly with industry lawyers and lobbyists to ensure that corporate interests are served first, second and third. Whether it’s rule-making or regulation-changing at the federal or state level, the high-paid corporate lobbyists are always the first through the EPA door. Who has not heard or read on the internet about the “Environmental Protection Racket”?

Two more ‘EverySyrian’ heroes murdered while protecting our shared cultural heritage

August 23rd, 2015

Franklin Lamb

The National Museum, Damascus

Curating antiquities or attending international conferences on archaeology have become capital offenses among some claimed “religious purists.” Two more Syrian nationalists who served all of us by protecting and preserving our global cultural heritage in this cradle of civilization were murdered within the past two weeks just six days apart.

Qassim Abdullah Yehya 37, and Khaled al-Assad 83, were two of the 14 committed professionals serving their country and all of humanity through current and past associations with Syria’s renowned Directorate General of Antiquities & Museums (DGAM). As with a dozen of their DGAM colleagues before them, Mssrs. Yehya and al-Assad were murdered in the line of duty since the March 2011 Syrian crisis erupted. Today’s latest UN statistics estimate that more than 250,000 Syrians have lost their lives utterly devastating their families and loves one during these past 53 months of nearly unimaginable carnage.

Jerry Hartfield: Victimized by US Police State Injustice

August 23rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Blacks and other people of color in America are systematically denied due process and judicial fairness. Killer cops murder innocent victims with impunity. African Americans like Hartfield are imprisoned unjustly.

In his case, for nearly four decades despite an appeals court in 1980 throwing out his 1977 conviction for the killing of Bay City, TX bus station ticket agent Eunice Lowe.

He was on death row until then Governor Mark White commuted his sentence to life in prison - despite no sentence to commute. A Texas appeals court ruling annulled it. He should have been freed straightaway.

Famine Stalks Yemen

August 23rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Obama’s war on Yemen with Saudi proxies may kill millions before it ends. Official reports way understate mounting casualties - from war, untreated diseases and wounds, especially threatening famine.

On August 19, the World Food Program warned of a growing catastrophic food crisis. War and US/Saudi blockade prevents distributing enough to sustain life for millions of Yemenis.

WFP’s Erthanin Cousin warned of likely famine if it’s not lifted along with providing unhindered access to starving people.“Right now, the conflict-driven convergence between the lack of staple food, access to clean water, and a diminished fuel supply create the dawn of a perfect storm for the most vulnerable Yemeni people,” she explained.

Horrific Mistreatment of Migrants

August 23rd, 2015

by Stephen Lendman

Refugees fleeing war zones, persecution, or poverty and unemployment are the world’s least welcome people. America bears full responsibility for millions leaving Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Donbass and elsewhere - seeking safe havens in Europe or countries bordering their own.

Hungary deployed thousands of police to its border with Serbia. It’s “under attack (by) increasingly aggressive migrants,” according to Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s chief of staff. Around 130,000 arrived this year so far - triple 2014’s number. Over 160,000 arrived in Greece - about 50,000 in the last month alone. Welcome mats don’t greet them. Conditions are deplorable.

The Kingmaker

August 23rd, 2015

By Gilad Atzmon

Paul Eisen, until a week ago anonymous as far as most Brits were concerned, is now a kingmaker. The UK Jewish Lobby is convinced, for some reason, that the nature of Eisen’s relationship with Labour’s leading candidate Jeremy Corbyn will determine the future of this country.

As we witness the most important political debate in Britain for generations being hijacked by the Zionist media and ‘Jewish sensitivities’, the time is ripe to ask: who is Paul Eisen?

Eisen has been described by the Jewish press and its acolytes as an ‘anti Semite’ and a ‘holocaust denier’, but peculiarly, no one mentions that Eisen is actually a Jew who sometimes even speaks ‘as a Jew’.

Eisen’s ‘crime’ seems obvious - he doesn’t adhere to the Zionist orthodox Shoah narrative. But Eisen doesn’t dispute the fact that German National Socialism despised the Jewish race, he doesn’t dispute the mass deportation of Jews, he doesn’t condone German National Socialist racism against Jews and others. Eisen doesn’t dispute the fact that many Jews died under the Nazi regime in some horrid and unfortunate circumstances. However, Eisen is sceptical on issues to do with the homicidal nature of the Nazi operation. He is not convinced that the Germans used gas chambers as a death factory.
