An innocent man’s home was destroyed by police after 50 SWAT officers responded to reports of a man shoplifting a shirt and two belts from a store. Even though the city declared the man’s house a complete loss, he was given just $5,000 in compensation, and he is now filing a lawsuit for “just compensation.”

Leo Lech lost his home in June 2015, after police launched a 19-hour standoff that included the use of armored vehicles, breaching rams, high-caliber rifles, chemical agents, flash-bang grenades and remote-controlled robots. While his home became “collateral damage,” neither Lech nor his family had any ties to the target the officers were pursuing.

Ian Dixon, left his full-time job in 2016 to pursue an app-development business, did so because the ACA guaranteed that he could still have quality coverage for his young family, he said.

But when the 38-year-old Charlottesville husband and father of a 3- and a 1-year-old went to re-enroll this month, his only choice for coverage would cost him more than $3,000 a month for his family of four, which amounted to an increase of more than 300 percent over the $900 he paid the year before. And this is for the second-cheapest option, with a deductible of $9,200.

The Food and Drug Administration has just approved a new pill with a digital sensor in it. Regulators in the United States have approved the first pill that can be digitally tracked as it makes its way through the human body. The Abilify MyCite aripiprazole tablets used for treating schizophrenia and manic episodes have an ingestible sensor embedded inside them that records that the medication has been taken. A patch worn by the patient transmits this information to their smartphone .Abilify MyCite features a sensor the size of a grain of sand made of silicon, copper, and magnesium. An electrical signal is activated when the sensor comes into contact with stomach acid - the sensor then passes through the body naturally.

A patch the patient wears on their left rib cage receives the signal several minutes after the pill is ingested. The patch then sends data like the time the pill was taken and the dosage to a smartphone app over Bluetooth.

The patch also records activity levels, sleeping patterns, steps taken, activity, and heart rate, and must be replaced every seven days. The patient’s doctor and up to four other people chosen by the patient, including family members, can access the information. The patient can revoke access at any time.

Fistfights and chair-throwing broke out in Uganda's parliament on Tuesday ahead of a debate on whether to grant long-serving President Yoweri Museveni another term in office.

The move to extend his rule has met widespread opposition from civic rights activists, the political opposition, religious leaders and even some members of Museveni's own ruling party. He has been in power for more than three decades.

Local television showed government and opposition lawmakers coming to blows after the House speaker allowed a ruling party legislator to introduce a motion to kick-start the process to remove an age cap from Uganda's constitution to allow Museveni to run for re-election.

Senate Judiciary Committee, whose chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), last December referred Planned Parenthood and several other abortion providers to the FBI for investigation after a lengthy probe into the transfers of fetal tissue.

Grassley said at the time that his committee had uncovered enough evidence in its final investigative report to show abortion providers had transferred tissue and body parts from aborted fetuses to firms for use in research by charging dollar amounts above their actual costs.

The Justice Department declined comment, saying it does not confirm nor deny whether an investigation is taking place.

It was two summers ago that the Center for Medical Progress released undercover videos allegedly showing Planned Parenthood’s illegal selling of aborted baby parts, including hearts, lungs, livers, and brains, for profit.

The Zimbabwean army has said president Robert Mugabe and his wife have been taken into custody after gunfire was heard near his compound and troops seized control of the state broadcaster.

Loud explosions were heard in Harare in the early hours of Wednesday after military vehicles rolled into the capital, triggering speculation of a "bloodless" coup.

The blasts and gunfire came hours after a military chief warned the army could "step in" amid a political crisis sparked by 93-year-old Mr Mugabe firing his vice president - and likely successor - Emmerson Mnangagwa earlier this month.

General Constantino Chiwenga, commmander of Zimbabwe's defence forces, had demanded an end to a purge in the ruling ZANU-PF party - which appeared to be paving the way for Mr Mugabe's 52-year-old wife Grace to succeed him.

Those awaiting cash transfers at a bank may wait a month to be cleared and, even then, the transfer may be refused. In October, Zimbabwe demand started to impact the global price of the cryptocurrency, and two weeks ago we noted the doubling of the price of Bitcoin in Zimbabwe as uncertainty about the nation's stability sent citizens into a decentralized currency that was out of Mugabe's reach. Bitcoin isn’t just being bought by individuals, but by businesses with bills to pay.

Turkey has sharply ramped up gold buying with both the central bank and ordinary people joining the rush.

“Bar and coin purchases, a measure of investment demand, were 47 metric tons so far in 2017, compared with 14.8 tons in the same period a year ago,

A year ago, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the Turkish public to keep savings in gold and avoid the US dollar, urging the central bank to back that policy.

At the same time, the exchange value of the Turkish lira has dropped 15 percent since the beginning of October. The plunge inevitably makes the national currency increasingly unattractive as a savings vehicle.

The U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe urged American citizens to "shelter in place" early Wednesday as troops were seen in the streets of the capital amid rising political turmoil surrounding the country's 93-year-old president, Robert Mugabe; cited "ongoing political uncertainty through the night" and added the embassy would be closed to the public on Wednesday. The British embassy issued a similar warning, citing "reports of unusual military activity."

Shortly after the embassy statements, Zimbabwe's army sought to reassure the country that "this is not a military takeover" and that while Mugabe was safe and sound, the military was targeting "criminals around him" who have sent the nation spinning into economic despair.

The army took control of the state Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation late Tuesday and an army spokesman made the statement: "As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy.
