The Saudi-led coalition has killed and injured more than 3,000 civilians in Yemen as the war on the country goes to its eighth year. | The Saudi-led coalition, through the criminality it is imposing via airstrikes against the people of Yemen, has killed and injured more than 3,000 civilians, including women and children, a Yemeni rights group said on Monday. ● The Humanity Eye Center for Rights and Development issued a report on Monday that showed the number of casualties of the war on Yemen in 2022 alone was as high as 3,083 - 643 murdered citizens and 2,440 others wounded. Some 102 children lost their lives and 353 others sustained injuries, with 27 women killed and 97 others wounded, the report added. "The aggression against Yemen has resulted in the injury of 2,440 civilians, including 353 children and 97 women, since the beginning of 2022," the report said.

Rising Prices Are the Effect of An Earlier Monetary Action | The United States and most of the rest of the world are, once again, in the midst of an inflationary crisis. Prices in general are rising at annualized rates not experienced by, especially, the industrialized countries of North America and Europe for well over 40 years. More than 50 percent of the U.S. population is under 40 years of age, meaning that half of the people in the country have never experienced in their life time a period of rising prices such as is now occurring. ● It is not surprising, therefore, the shock that it has had for so many. There was a period of time in the late 1970s when price inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was going up at an annualized rate of nearly 15 percent. That was the highest since during the American Civil War, more than a hundred years earlier. So, the nearly 9 percent price inflation in the summer of 2022 was something totally new for the average American family.

According to a report by the Institute for Criminal Justice Training Reform (ICJTR), Finland has one the highest gun-ownership rates in Europe, with around 32 civilian firearms per 100 people – but incidents of police shooting civilians are extremely rare. We could only find 9 examples of police killings in Finland in the last two decades, one of which was an accidental shooting of a prison guard.

Video from the December 15 incident shows a Lockheed F-35B Lightning II crashing during a quality check and the pilot ejecting. ● Last Friday, in the aftermath of the incident, Defense News first reported that Lockheed Martin had “announced it halted acceptance flights and deliveries of new F-35 Joint Strike Fighters” due to the ongoing investigation. As a result, Lockheed Martin delivered seven fewer aircraft than the 148 that they were contracted to deliver in 2022. According to that report, 💬 “A source familiar with the program told Defense News the investigation into the Dec. 15 mishap found that a tube used to transfer high-pressure fuel in the fighter’s F135 engine, made by Pratt & Whitney, had failed.”

UnlessMissouri Governor Mike Parson grants clemency, McLaughlin will be put to death on Tuesday for the rape and murder of a former girlfriend. ● Should McLaughlin’s appeal for clemency fail, the 49-year-old will be the first criminal executed by the US this year, and the first transgender person executed in US history. McLaughlin is scheduled to die by lethal injection in Missouri’s execution chamber in the city of Bonne Terre. ● Biologically male and having gone by the name Scott, McLaughlin raped an ex-girlfriend and stabbed her to death in 2003, having previously been convicted for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in 1992. McLaughlin was sentenced to death by a Missouri judge in 2006, after a jury was unable to decide between life imprisonment and the death penalty. ● Although tried and convicted as a male, McLaughlin began identifying as transgender whilst behind bars. McLaughlin was granted a stay of execution in 2016, but the punishment was reinstated by a federal appeals court in 2021. With no court appeals remaining, McLaughlin’s lawyers filed an application for clemency in December, asking Governor Parson to commute her sentence to life imprisonment. The application cited abuse suffered by McLaughlin as a child and a lifetime of “trauma and neglect.” Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (MADP) held a rally for McLaughlin outside the state capitol in Jefferson City last month.
