Three caves and four bunkers were destroyed in air raids in Metina, Zap, Avasin-Basyan and Gara in northern Iraq. Three camp areas were also destroyed. Venezuelan National Guard has thrown grenades with tear gas to the building of a residential home for children and elderly people in the city of Maracaibo, according to reports. NTN24 news outlet reported on Monday that the National Guard used the grenades after an attempt of people participating in an anti-government rally to hide in the building of the social facility.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to meet with Donald Trump in Washington during his two-day trip to the US. Lavrov is also scheduled to hold talks with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and attend the Arctic Council meeting.

The Mayor of Manaus, Brazil has declared a state of emergency after a sudden spike in refugees arriving from Venezuela. 355 Venezuelans have entered northern Brazil recently to escape the economic, political and social crisis in the country City officials said Venezuelans have come in search of work, as their own country suffers from a shortage of food and medical supplies that have sparked intense political demonstrations. Venezuelans are reportedly camping in downtown Manaus at the city’s bus terminal and along major streets.
The involvement of the U.S. military in an upcoming multilateral military drill in South America has raised concerns over potential ulterior motives on the part of the U.S. The drill, dubbed “Operation: America United,” will involve the installation of a temporary military base on the triple border shared by the drill’s other participating nations: Peru, Brazil and Colombia.

A California-based drone maker has unveiled the Snipe, a miniature scouting quad-copter designed for tactical use by infantry in the field. 20 of the 5-ounce drones have already been delivered to the US government, the company said. The Snipe weighs 4.9 ounces (140 grams) and is capable of flying for about 15 minutes at a maximum speed of around 20 miles per hour (32 km/h) within a one-kilometer (0.62-mile) range, can be carried by a soldier in the field and deployed in under a minute.

7,900 other Soviet flat blocks in Moscow, are to be torn down, in what will be one of the largest urban resettlement programmes in history. 25 million sq metres of residential real estate – more than 10% of the city’s housing stock – will be torn down. An estimated 1.6 million people will be resettled; not clear what kind of buildings will replace the Soviet housing.
