Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Hamburg late Thursday night for the G20 summit and the highly anticipated first in person contact with his US counterpart Donald Trump, scheduled on the sidelines of the top world leaders’ meeting.
Chinese Ambassador Liu Jieyi’s recent remarks on the matter suggest that we are nearing a dangerous breaking point: “Currently tensions are high and we certainly would like to see a de-escalation,” Liu told a news conference at UN headquarters as China takes over the Security Council presidency in July. “If tension only goes up … then sooner or later it will get out of control and the consequences would be disastrous,” he said.

North Korea’s latest ballistic missile launch is dangerous and requires an escalated diplomatic response, US Ambassador Nikki Haley told the UN Security Council. The US is preparing a new resolution that will likely target China’s trade with Pyongyang. While the US is “prepared to use the full range of our capabilities to defend ourselves and our allies,” Washington prefers to use trade as leverage, according to Haley."One of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces. We will use them if we must, but we prefer not to have to go in that direction," she said.

There are several drug trafficking rings fighting for control of the northern Chihuahua state, a gateway to the United States. Ciudad Juarez was ranked as the world’s most violent city a few years ago, with an annual 3,100 murders.
Violent protests are growing, the economy is spiraling further out of control. Government corruption and mismanagement have triggered hyperinflation. The collapse of the economy and currency has driven shortages in food, medicine and basic products. The country has been gripped by unrest as Venezuelans call for President Nicolas Maduro to step down or hold democratic elections. Since late March, 74 people have been killed and more than 1,400 injured in protests.

President Emmanuel Macron has proposed reducing the size of the French parliament by one third, among a set of "profound changes," as he set out his agenda for his term to the Senate and National Assembly in Versailles. If the reform is approved, the National Assembly would be cut from 577 members to 385 and the Senate would be reduced from 348 members to 232, Liberation newspaper calculated. Macron wants to abolish of the Court of Justice of the Republic, a special French court that deals only with ministerial misconduct.

A potentially deadly brain-eating amoeba has been discovered by health officials in the water system of a Louisiana parish.The amoeba occurs naturally in freshwater and causes a disease called primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM), which can destroy brain tissue. Early symptoms of PAM can resemble bacterial meningitis.

Rinkeby, one of the most infamous no-go areas in Stockholm, authorities tried to build a new police station. Due to safety issues in the area, the government has been unable to secure a building contractor to complete the station as many fear being attacked.
