Rohani Seeks Rapprochement

September 21st, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On September 19, Iranian President Hassan Rohani addressed Americans and US officials directly. He did so responsibly.

His Washington Post op-ed headlined "Why Iran seeks constructive engagement." More on that below.

America and Iran are polar opposites. Obama represents the worst of rogue governance. Hypocrisy substitutes for democracy. War on humanity is official policy. Peace is verboten.

In contrast, Iranian President Hassan Rohani combines diplomacy, political acumen and scholarship. He's known as the "Diplomat Sheikh." He earned master's and doctoral law degrees.

Syrian Insurgents Battle Each Other

September 21st, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Even media scoundrels took note. More on that below. A previous article discussed opposition elements in disarray. Syrian National Coalition (SNC) internal disputes show it's unable to function effectively. Leadership is weak.

The SNC is an artificial construct. It lacks legitimacy. It resembles a gang that can't shoot straight. On July 8, self-styled prime minister Ghassan Hitto resigned.

He did so after four months in office. He did it two days after SNC members elected Ahmad Asi-al Jarba president.

The post was vacant since Mouaz al-Khatib resigned in April. He cited frustration over lack of enough international support, internal divisions, and disarray among "rebel" factions.

Bernanke Stays the Course

September 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Helicopter Ben surprised. Tapering was expected. Not now, he said. Reasons why include concern about economic strength.

He's worried about how higher rates will impact global over-indebtedness.

When tapering was announced weeks earlier, these and other uncertainties were known. Why change policy now? Doing so makes Bernanke look like a taper tiger.

On January 31, his term expires. He's expected to step down. Perhaps he'll stay the course until he does so. The longer it remains unchanged, the greater the future mess. The Wall Street Journal headlined "Fed Stays the Course on Easy Money," saying:

"Seeing a more uneven economic climate than they expected and the potential for fiscal discord in Washington, Federal Reserve officials got cold feet Wednesday and decided to keep their signature easy-money program in place for the time being."

by Stephen Lendman

"There’s a lot of data. It’s widely available on the Internet. This data is presented in the report, which our experts put together in association with the use of chemical weapons in Aleppo in March this year."

Anti-Assad Death Squads Responsible for Gas Attack

September 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Assad's wrongfully blamed for Ghouta's gas attack. Evidence shows insurgents bear full responsibility. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was clear and unequivocal, saying:

"We have the most serious grounds to believe (Ghouta's attack) was a provocation." Assad had nothing to do with it.

"There is no answer to a number of questions we have asked, such as where the weapon was made - at an official factory or using homemade methods," Lavrov added. Clear evidence shows insurgents have sarin and other toxic chemicals. Pentagon contractors trained them in their handling and use.

The Ultimate Spy Machine

September 20th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On September 9, senior Foreign Policy magazine writer Shane Harris headlined "The Cowboy of the NSA."

He discussed NSA head General Keith Alexander's obsession "to build the ultimate spy machine." He's ignores core rule of law principles doing it.

On August 1, 2005, he succeeded General Michael Hayden as NSA's 16th director. The agency was established in 1952.

It's a lawless global spy machine. It's Big Brother writ large. It's one of 16 known US intelligence agencies. Black budgets conceal enormous amounts they spend.

Israel's Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Weapons Threaten World Peace

September 19th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

Syria threatens no one. It hasn't used chemical weapons against insurgents or its own civilians. Claims otherwise are fabricated.

In contrast, Israel is nuclear armed and dangerous. It maintains large chemical and biological weapons arsenals. More on that below.

In 1986, Dimona nuclear technician/heroic whistleblower Mordechai Vananu revealed important documents, photos, and other scientific evidence. They proved Israel began producing atomic weapons since at least the 1960s. Years later, thermonuclear warheads were manufactured.

Janet Yellen Likely New Fed Chairwoman: Hold the Cheers

September 19th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On January 31, current Fed chairman Bernanke's term ends. He's expected to step down.

Larry Summers was favored to succeed him. If Yellen's chosen, she'll be the first woman to hold the post.

Word was Obama intended to appoint Summers. Opposition sentiment forced his withdrawal.

A previous article discussed his deplorable record. Greg Palast calls him the "Typhoid Mary of Economics." He's that and much more. Hold the cheers for Yellen. More on her below.

Palast wrote about Summers years ago. He called him "a colony of aliens sent to Earth to turn humans into a cheap source of protein."

September 19th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

On Monday, UN inspectors released their eagerly awaited report. Security Council members were briefed in closed session.

On Tuesday, the report was published online. It's titled "Report on the Alleged Use of Chemical Weapons in the Ghouta Area of Damascus on 21 August 2013."

On September 16, the UN News Centre headlined " 'Clear and convincing' evidence of chemical weapons use in Syria, UN team reports."

Media Scoundrels Wrongfully Blame Assad for Gas Attack

September 19th, 2013

by Stephen Lendman

The blame game repeats with disturbing regularity. Media scoundrels bear full responsibility. They lie for power. They do it repeatedly. They do it disgracefully. They ignore hard facts.

Throughout months of conflict, Assad's been wrongfully blamed for insurgent massacres, atrocities, chemical weapons use and other high crimes.

Throughout months of conflict, no evidence whatever links Syrian forces to chemical weapons use. They had nothing to do with attacking Ghouta. Not according Washington, Britain, France and Israel.

Media scoundrels regurgitate their lies. It doesn't surprise. They're waging war on Syria. They support Obama's imperial aggression. They endorse his regime change plans. They back military force to do so.
