Obama Shifts Closer to War on Syria

February 6th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

In March 2011, Obama launched proxy war on Syria. Regime change remains policy.

Peace talks are subterfuge. They're fake. Geneva II reflects more sideshow than substance.

Washington abhors peaceful conflict resolution. Human suffering doesn't matter. Conflict continues unabated. January perhaps was the deadliest month so far. An estimated 6,000 or more died.

So-called "humanitarian war" was planned years ago. Full-scale implementation could come any time.

On the sidelines of the just concluded Munich Security Conference, John Kerry met privately with 15 congressional members.

He acknowledged diplomatic failure. He stopped short of saying Washington planned it that way.

Free Expression on Trial in Israel

February 6th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Israel mocks democratic values. It has no borders. It's to steal Palestinian land.

It has no constitution. Basic laws substitute. They fall woefully short. Ones in place are ignored.

Universally recognized rights are compromised. They include life, liberty and security. They assure privacy. They prohibit cruel and unusual punishments.

They assure everyone equal protection under the law. No distinction can be made based on race, nationality, ethnicity, gender or religious preference.

They guarantee free expression, free assembly, free movement, and free thought. They assure adequate food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education and other vital services.

They guarantee government of, by and for everyone equitably and fairly.

Israel is no democracy. It never was. For sure it's not now. It wants critics silenced. Legislation, policies and judicial rulings violate free speech, a free press, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion.

Militarism in Germany

February 5th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

A previous article discussed WW I's 100th anniversary. On July 29, 1914, it began. It was called the war to end all wars.

WW II followed. German involvement was central in both wars. In 1945, Hitler's Wehrmacht was disbanded.

It ravaged and destroyed much of Europe. It killed millions of people. Most Germans wanted never again. They renounced militarism.

A new Bundeswehr was established. It was constitutionally restricted to defense. Conscripts were called "citizens in uniform."

WMD Deception: Pretext for War on Syria?

February 5th, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Here we go again. A new London Sunday Times report claims Assad is hoarding WMDs. More on it below.

We've seen it all before. It surfaced earlier against Syria. Obama repeatedly warned Assad against using chemical weapons.

He never did. He never would. Doing so would be suicide. His Foreign Ministry spokesman Johad Makdissi repeated earlier what various Syrian officials stressed, saying:

"No chemical or biological weapons will ever be used, and I repeat, will never be used...no matter what" happens inside Syria.

What Cold War? This Cold War: Death Follows McCain to the Ukraine as the Armenia-ultimatum to Screw over Russia Fails Again for the EU and the U.S.

February 4th, 2014

via chycho

It has become obvious that what's going on in Ukraine is an extension of the cold war as the U.S. and the EU try and peddle a modified version of the Armenia-ultimatum to their people. Sound complicated? It's not really. What's going on in Ukraine is an economic proxy war that has turned sour.

The trade deal that the EU has offered the Ukraine is garbage. To find out how bad it is all we have to do is look at why Armenia ended up telling the EU to shove it when they tried to jam the same deal down their throats.

In September 2013, Armenia called off an Armenia-EU Association Agreement after they found out that the trade deal was not really about easing trade restrictions with the EU but about screwing over Russia, and themselves by extension:

Reid Derails Fast Track

February 3rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D. NV) opposes fast track legislation. He broke with Obama on trade policy.

"I'm against fast track," he said. "I think everyone would be well-advised not to push this right now."

Senator John Cornyn (R. TX) said:

"You can kiss any new trade deals goodbye. I think the majority leader's focus is on the November elections, and he doesn't want to expose his vulnerable members to controversial votes."

AFL-CIO trade policy specialist Celeste Drake called Reid's comments "a great opportunity to get off the fast track to bad trade deals and open the policy window to a better deal for workers."

Kerry v. Lavrov in Munich

February 3rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Kerry represents the worst of America's dark side. Imperial lawless defines it. So do permanent wars on humanity.

Lavrov and Vladimir Putin deserve Nobel Peace Prizes. They address regional conflicts responsibly. They want things resolved diplomatically.

They've gone all out for peace in Syria. They've done it tirelessly. They continue doing it against long odds.

They know Obama wants regime change. So does Kerry. They support death squad killers. They ignore their worst atrocities. They wrongfully blame Assad for their crimes.

They want Ukraine's democratically government ousted. They want pro-Western ultranationalist extremists replacing it.

Good News and Bad from Palestine

February 3rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

First the good news. There's much to report. On November 29, 2013, the UN General Assembly designated 2014 as the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.

A previous article asked why this year? Why not every year? Why not action, not words. Hope springs eternal. Maybe policy changes will follow.

Good things are happening. Global BDS successes highlight them. They're impressive. They're essential. They suggest more ahead. More on this below.

Obama Planning War on Syria?

February 3rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Obama is the latest in a long line of lawless US leaders. He's one of numerous past warrior ones. He campaigned as a peace president. On October 28, 2007, he said:

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do."

"I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank."

And he'll close Guantanamo. And he'll hold Bush administration war criminals accountable. And he'll end lawless military commissions trials.

And he'll increase capital gains and dividends taxes on high-income earners. And he'll tax corporate windfall profits.

Kerry Backs Keystone XL Pipeline

February 3rd, 2014

by Stephen Lendman

Kerry mocks legitimacy. He represents the worst of America's dark side. He's going all out to be Washington's worst ever Secretary of State.

He's Obama's war on humanity front man. He blames Syrian President Assad for US-supported death squad crimes. He wants him ousted. He wants Syrian sovereignty destroyed.

He wants Washington deciding Syria's future. He wants it colonized for profit. He wants Ukraine exploited the same way.

He supports ultranationalist extremists. He blames Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych for US-supported street thug violence.

He's Israel's man in Washington. His peace deal is fake. It's entirely one-sided. It demands unconditional Palestinian surrender.
