The Causes of Human Suffering and a Solution

December 13th, 2008

Raymond Ponzini

At the top of the list is monetary greed and megalomania

Along with this comes ruthless exploitation of human beings, the environment, plant and animal species. Greed grinds up our earth and all life. Millions of innocent human beings are killed in wars that profit the international Federal Reserve banking system, the military industrial complex and the oil companies. The vast wealth created by war and human exploitation is not in any way used to benefit humanity or our earth. The super rich buy mansions all over the world, fleets of private jets and expensive cars, but most of the money they accumulate is stashed away in vast hoardes and used to acquire more slaves more power and more wealth. The cycle of power and exploitation is perpetual, and for humanity it is self-consuming. Obviously a world based on war and greed will end in a World War fought over dwindling commodity resources.

Cluster Bomb Treaty and the World’s Unfinished Business

December 13th, 2008

Ramzy Baroud

The United States, Russia and China are sending a terrible message to the rest of the world by refusing to take part in the historic signing of a treaty that bans the production and use of cluster bombs. In a world that is plagued by war, military occupation and terrorism, the involvement of the great military powers in signing and ratifying the agreement would have signaled – if even symbolically - the willingness of these countries to spare civilians’ unjustifiable deaths and the lasting scars of war.

Illinois Citizens Deserve Corrupt Government

December 12th, 2008

Joel S. Hirschhorn

The current Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, recently charged with crimes by the federal government, just follows in the footsteps of previous convicted Illinois governors and a huge number of other Illinois officials convicted of crimes. What is remarkable is that in the 2008 election Illinois voters had the opportunity to recognize that they needed to use their constitutional convention opportunity to reform state government. They voted not to use it.

Which raises the question: How stupid or brainwashed are most Illinois citizens?

Why Noam Chomsky is Dead Wrong About 911!

December 12th, 2008

Len Hart

"I mean even if it [US GOVERNMENT COMPLICITY IN THE 9/11 ATTACKS] were true, which is extremely unlikely, who cares? I mean it doesn't have any significance." -Noam Chomsky

Noam, I care! And I care because the very document that created the United States --the US Constitution --tells us in precise and legal language that the American people are 'sovereign'. If the US government --the 'hired hands' whom we, the people, have tasked with the day to day job of governance --are in any way complicit in the attacks of 911, then the crimes of mass murder and high treason have been perpetrated against us! If 911 was an inside job, then we have no legitimate government! I call that 'significance'!

Excess Debt and Deflation Equals Depression

December 12th, 2008

Stephen Lendman

Irving Fisher (1867 - 1947) was perhaps the most noted economist of his day. The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics calls him "one of America's greatest mathematical economists and one of" its clearest writers. He earned special acclaim for his work on monetary and statistical theory, policy, index numbers, econometrics, and the distinction between real and nominal interest rates.

He's also remembered for having made one of the worst and most ill-timed ever stock market calls that cost him his reputation and millions in the subsequent crash - on October 17, 1929 (a week before Black Thursday) when he said "stock prices had reached what looks like a permanently high plateau."

Interview with Prof. James Russell

December 12th, 2008

Interview by Kourosh Ziabari

Nowadays, you hear the name of Iran for the most catastrophic reasons in the global media headlines. Nuclear weapons, terrorism, mass destruction, violation of human rights, abduction of freedom activists etc. Such hostile approach for the coverage of Iran news which has been taking by the corporation media since long times ago would easily sequence to an international pessimism toward the people of Iran, the culture of Iran and the history of Iran. That's why, Iran is somehow interpreted as the most misrepresented, misunderstood country in the world that is being distorted by image despite of its richness of civilization.

Speaking to an American scholar of Persian Culture who has devoted almost 15 years of his lifetime to studying the furthest angels and brinks of Persian culture and Iranian lifestyle is worth reading at least once for it gives a clarified and impartial viewpoint of Iran, what the outgoing President of US calls the "Axis of Evil".

James Russell is a world-distinguished figure, a well-known name for those interested in Persian culture, Persian civilization and Iranian studies. He is a Professor of Armenian Studies at Harvard University and the a former Associate Professor of Ancient Iranian studies at Columbia University while teaching at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem priorly.

Why Israel would not dare attack Iran?

December 11th, 2008

Kourosh Ziabari

Nowadays, Iran and its people are being threatened widely for a near, possible attack by the Israeli forces if Tehran continue pursuing its nuclear program. Additionally, the amount of media pressure against the country is increasing simultaneous to the rhetoric of Israeli officials, backed by US statesmen.

Some western governments acclaim that they would support Israel for a possible bombardment of Iranian nuclear facilities because of the threatening nature of these installations.

The Power Elite Playbook, Establishing Precedents, Part 19 By Deanna Spingola

December 11th, 2008

Deanna Spingola

The exploitation of the Philippine Islands’ vast mineral reserves, so strongly encouraged by President McKinley, gave one particular American Expeditionary soldier, First Lieutenant John William Haussermann (1867-1965, discharged September 1, 1899), an Ohio-born attorney from Leavenworth, Kansas, a (literally) golden opportunity. Since Philippine law didn’t recognize the American entity known as a “corporation,” the U.S. Congress passed a law on July 1, 1902 which enabled Haussermann, then city attorney for Manila, to organize a corporation on June 1903, which became known as the Benguet Consolidated Mining Company by 1906. In 1927, Benguet bought out its competitor, Balatoc Mining, giving it 80% of the Philippine gold industry. Philippine gold made Haussermann “the Gold King” and his associates a massive fortune which would later be selectively shared with influential political puppets like General Douglas MacArthur, who comfortably identified with the Philippine oligarchy.

The Persecution of Syed Fahad Hashmi

December 10th, 2008

Stephen Lendman

It's a familiar story. A Muslim American is accused of terrorism for supporting Al Queda and conspiracy to provide support for a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). The prosecution asks for the maximum sentence. Once again, an innocent man is arrested, charged, indicted and convicted with no substantiating evidence except for what prosecutors say they have. All of it is bogus and much classified and withheld from the defense. Witnesses are enlisted to cooperate and proceedings orchestrated to intimidate juries to convict. Justice again is denied. Those accused bear the mark of cain for being Muslim in America at the wrong time - especially if they're devout, activist, and for some prominent and engaged in charitable work.

The mainstream portrays Hashmi as a "jihadist" and believer in "radical Islamic ideas" because of his association with the now defunct (since 2004) London-based Al Muhajiroun (The Immigrants) and a related still active New York-based Islamic Thinkers Society.
