Bad Faith and Dead Kennedys

March 2nd, 2010

by Len Hart, The Existentialist Cowboy

When Galileo was compelled to recant, it is said that he muttered inaudibly under his breath: "...but it does move". Earth, of course. The Catholic Church had maintained its doctrine of an unmoving Earth in unmoving space, a noumenal 'God's eye view' of absolute space. I may recant if someone holds a gun on me, but I will always be in danger of muttering too loudly and blowing my cover.

If I should ever be compelled to 'recant' my liberal, progressive views of both politics and metaphysics, it will be the because the American right wing will have created and enforced a dictatorship of both the very stupid and those who choose to be ignorant, a 'faith based dictatorship' , a 'faith based tyranny'.

Those who know better but rationalize their accommodation with such a dictatorship epitomize what the Existentialists call 'bad faith'! Any school curriculum, any dictatorship derived from either deliberate ignorance or 'bad faith' must be opposed, nipped in the bud, eventually overthrown, crushed and replaced upon true democratic and egalitarian principles subject to reality checks, pragmatic expectations, good sense, good faith.

Funding Israeli Militarism, Belligerence and Occupation

March 2nd, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

From birth, Israel was a regional menace until America became its benefactor in the late 1960s. Now it's a global one, powerful with a large standing army and the latest weapons and technology, nuclear armed and ready to use them. It's belligerent on the slightest pretext or none at all, and a threat to world peace and security because US administrations since Lyndon Johnson supported a nation of 5.6 million Jews in an area the size of New Jersey, partnering in its worst crimes and abuses.

It's due largely to the Israeli Lobby's influence, or as John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt wrote in their book, "The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy," America's Middle East policy is driven "almost entirely (by) US domestic politics, and especially (because of) the (Lobby's) activities....This situation has no equal in American political history."

WE'VE BEEN HAD, FOLKS / ARE YOU READY TO FIGHT BACK?

March 2nd, 2010

Allen L Roland

The American people have been had by the Oligarchy orEconomicElite and Clinton, Bush and Obama as well as their appointees are all co-conspirators. They all answer to the Business roundtablewhereas mainstream America's needs are seemingly irrelevant ~ fromunwanted wars to true healthcare reform. It's time for real change and it begins with ourselves:

I've used political cartoons by David Dees before but this one touches a special button. Millions of Americans, including myself, voted for true changein 2008 and what we got was not only Bush lite but the distinct feeling that we were not only being used but laughed at by the Economic Elite. Here's the big picture ~ 50 million Americans now live in poverty Half of all American children will need foodstamps at some point in their lives Hunger rates are now at all-time highs 50 million citizens are now without health care 1.4 million filed for bankruptcy last year, 60% of them because of medical bills 13 million are expected to lose their homes before the crisis is over Meanwhile, we incarcerate more people in the world than any other nation, and a new prison opens somewhere in America every week.

America's Permanent War Agenda

March 1st, 2010

by Stephen Lendman

Post-9/11, Dick Cheney warned of wars that won't end in our lifetime. Former CIA Director James Woolsey said America "is engaged in World War IV, and it could continue for years....This fourth world war, I think, will last considerably longer than either World Wars I or II did for us." GHW Bush called it a "New World Order" in his September 11, 1990 address to a joint session of Congress as he prepared the public for Operation Desert Storm.

The Pentagon called it the "long war" in its 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR), what past administrations waged every year without exception since the republic's birth, at home and abroad. Obama is just the latest of America's warrior presidents that included Washington, Madison, Jackson, Lincoln, T. Roosevelt, Wilson, F. Roosevelt, Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, GHW Bush, Clinton, and GW Bush preceding him.

Tea-Parties and Progressives, Maybe We Should Listen to Each Other

March 1st, 2010

By Timothy V. Gatto

I’m watching the Tea-Partiers, Glenn Beck and Alex Jones with interest, you see me and people like me are exactly the ones they profess to hate, Liberal Progressives. It makes me chuckle when I hear their complaints. Allow me to bring up some of their major complaints so we are all on the same page here.

One of their chief complaints according to The New York Times article written by veteran investigative journalist David Barstow’s “Tea Party Lights Fuse for Rebellion on Right” is an all-powerful Federal Government that tramples on the people’s rights by spying on citizen’s, reading their e-mails and accessing their computers with no oversight. Well, gee folks, seems like this Liberal Progressive has been writing about this very same set of circumstances since the Patriot Acts were imposed by the Federal Government in their phony war on terrorism. It seems that the war is on us; the very citizen’s that the government is supposed to protect.

The truth about tort reform

March 1st, 2010

Mary Shaw

The Republicans seem to think that tort reform is what's needed to improve our health care system. To the Fox News audience, it might seem like a good idea -- cracking down on those greedy trial lawyers, as they like to spin it.

But those are just code words for limiting medical malpractice lawsuits by implementing federal caps on non-economic damages for pain and suffering.

In reality, it's not about the trial lawyers. It's about the legal rights of everyday people who suddenly find themselves victims of preventable medical errors.

It's about the man who had the wrong leg amputated.

"Glenn Beck's Red Right Hand"

February 28th, 2010

by Keith Johnson

You'll see him in your nightmares, you'll see him in your dreams, He'll appear out of nowhere, but he ain't what he seems, You'll see him in your head, on the TV screen, And hey buddy, I'm warning you to turn it off! He's a ghost, he's a god, he's a man, he's a guru, You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan, Designed and directed by his red right hand - 'Red Right Hand' by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Taken at face value, Glenn Beck’s journey from Top-40 shock jock to respected political pundit appears to be one of the most unlikely tales in the annals of American broadcast journalism. But upon closer examination, you come to realize that this is not your typical “rags to riches” story. Beck is not a “self-made man”—he’s a made man, whose rise to fame was facilitated through his powerful connections in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There is much to suggest that they (the LDS), and quite possibly the Central Intelligence Agency, played the most significant role in resurrecting his once broken career and advancing him to his current superstar status.

Entrenched MANFACTURED Iran, Giraldi’s Progressive Course

February 28th, 2010

Edited excerpt for Today's Insight News by Carolyn Bennett

"Why is Iran the target of so much rage," former CIA officer Philip Giraldi asks, "even though [Iran] has not threatened the United States or any vital American interest?"

Israel and its friends' influence over Congress and the media is surely a large part of the answer. How else can one explain the different treatment afforded Iran and North Korea given Pyongyang's open development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles?

Social and Individual Breakdown Pent up toward Collapse

February 28th, 2010

by Jan Lundberg

The U.S. appears to be breaking down on all levels, probably taking the rest of the modern world with it. Noticing this helps us understand the hopelessness of our intrinsically flawed system. Also, recognizing breakdown is helpful for seeing impending collapse in a new light.

Breakdown should be seen in such a way to realize that order is becoming an illusion. Breakdown is preceding and adding to future collapse. Simultaneously there are myriad magnificent yet small-scale efforts to improve people's lives and the health of our Earth. Overall, however, I detect a quickened intensity of breakdown across the board that cannot be cured under current conditions. It is manifested in many areas, such as minimal civic involvement in one's own life-and-death interest.

Prognosis 2012

February 27th, 2010

Richard K. Moore

Historical background – the establishment of capitalist supremacy

When the Industrial Revolution began in Britain, in the late 1700s, there was lots of money to be made by investing in factories and mills, by opening up new markets, and by gaining control of sources of raw materials. The folks who had the most money to invest, however, were not so much in Britain but more in Holland. Holland was the leading Western power in the 1600s, and its bankers were the leading capitalists. In pursuit of profit, Dutch capital flowed to the British stock market, and thus the Dutch funded the rise of Britain, who subsequently eclipsed Holland both economically and geopolitically.
