Spiritual Survival in a Temporal World

"Prayer of Gratitude" © Ruth Thunderhorse and ACQTC

JustGetThere -Letters from the Devic Realm

Chapter Seven: Gratitude

We’ve all heard the phrase, “You are what you eat.” You’ve probably also heard, “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he” You’ve likely heard, “for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.” These are all connected to a common truth. Life feeds on itself and how you think and feel about what you eat has a great deal to do with its impact on you.

Life is a radiant ‘serpent power’. You’ve seen the mystical serpent with its tail in its mouth. It’s called ‘serpent power’ because when viewed in operation by those capable of seeing it, it behaves in a serpentine fashion. If you want to see an example of our mysterious origin and how the force that animates us behaves then close your fist and look at the spiral that it makes.

It is important to follow a proper diet. A proper diet functions on more levels that that which affects the stomach. We consume with our hearts and minds as well. It’s good to remember that both heart and mind are only different levels, or expressions of the same thing. It’s also good to remember that one does not live by bread alone.

Everything is composed of sunlight which is also radiant energy. The green in your vegetables is a chemical change that sunlight went through. We are light in extension. Think of your body as frozen sunlight that feeds on sunlight. Without the sun there is no life and no light. Of course, this sun is a physical expression of another sun and there may be more rarified examples deeper in or further up; depending on how you see it.

I’ve said at other locations and on many another occasion that I believe one of the most powerful emotions that a person can possess is ‘gratitude’. A key feature that you should possess when you eat is, ‘gratitude’. Eating with gratitude is a magical act of great power. Observe how people eat and you will learn a lot should you be open to the evidence. Observation of life and a willingness to see into it will reveal understandings and truths that are hidden from most.

I am not a religious person and I belong to no religion. This does not mean that religion is not, in part, based on real truth. It means that religion obscures as much as it reveals and it often and invariably interprets wrong. Religion tends to view God anthropomorphically. It makes God a bigger you with all of your prejudices and shortcomings. God becomes a big idiot who reflects your little idiot perspectives.

Those who have looked more deeply into spiritual things with a questioning mind often come to see that all spiritual things have a scientific basis and can be explained and understood in scientific terms. Of course, there are those elements that will always be beyond the conscious, reasoning mind but even they conform to rules of behavior.

So, I practice certain behaviors that you also see among religious people. I always say ‘grace’ and I am, as much as I can remember to be… grateful. Eating with gratitude will change your life. I do not pray in the conventional way but I do contemplate and aspire toward a higher ideal of myself. I not only profoundly believe in a divine agency, I ‘know’ it is there. I possess a capacity to be willful and rebellious against my own best interest too… but, I’m trying to quit (grin). As will be the pattern here, before we can talk about the best diets and the choices of diet it is necessary to talk about the philosophical and metaphysical aspects of eating. It is important to know that we are feeding on different levels all the time and that the physical act of eating is only the most widely recognized practice.

In these times gratitude has been bred out of the process the same way that whole and nutritious food has been replaced by unhealthy garbage. You don’t see people take a moment to bless their food these days. You see them pile in, talk with their mouths full, drink while eating so that the digestive process is interfered with, not bother to chew so that complete digestion doesn’t take place, etc. You see the litter of our fast food nation everywhere and you see the physical condition of those who exist off of it. If I can get any idea across to you, I would want it to be gratitude. Be grateful. Get in the habit of being grateful for everything and you will see that you have more and more reasons to be grateful.

You don’t have to believe in a white-bearded fascist on a far away throne. This god is no more real than the god that the atheists do not believe in. But there is a living conscious force in you and if you feed it, its presence will grow. My wife does not believe in this god and generally is not inclined in this direction; though she is more spiritual than she will admit. The key inducement to my marrying her was during the first dinner I prepared when I asked if she minded if I took a moment to be grateful for my food. “Not at all.” she said and she joined me and has since. She understood the principle.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Just because much of contemporary religion and the religion of any time may be filled with absurdities and priest centric machinations to part you from your money and your reason does not mean something is not there. It is what feeds you. Be smart. Be grateful. Grow into a better idea of yourself and let your suffering diminish. Eating smart is a way to turn down the flame. If, as the Buddha taught, “All life is pain caused by ignorant desire.” then the more erratic and impure your flame, the greater is your suffering. Passionate people suffer more than others, DEPENDING on the nature of their passion. Turn down the flame and consciously feed it. True enjoyment will come and you will be healthy and filled with life.

This book is about ‘spiritual survival’. It is necessary to constantly point out that everything we can see and perceive has an invisible source. Acknowledge it. Be grateful. For those who are sincere and possessed of genuine interest, you will find much to assist you in these pages. And it is important not to associate any of it with me. Take what is useful and place your gratitude where it belongs. I’m just another climber on the ‘spiral staircase’. Since we are all on this staircase and since it is a spiral, always remember, try to never piss over the railing.

Remember too that this is a book about being welcomed into a community that will form around you as you think and feel and eat your way into it. Gratitude will be the light source that allows you to see AND recognize your companions. We all want to live in this community and we can but we must journey there and it is a journey within as well as without. You don’t simply buy a bus ticket. Many a prosperous soul eats properly but misses the connection between the spirit, mind and body. Living on a trust fund and dressing in white; attending seminars and talking about high minded things doesn’t guarantee anything. We need to approach the thing itself with humility and awe and most of all, gratitude. Talking about it steals the energy to do it.

In the next chapter we will present various diets and the esoteric practices that complete them. We have different needs and no one diet will work for all. For the moment you can start feeling grateful. Let your heart soar in the contemplation of what awaits you. Be grateful that someone attends your every footstep and waits at every point along the way. You are never alone and all the forces of good will fly to your side once you have taken hold of the conviction to carry on… once this conviction has taken hold of you.

When all is said and done (soon!), all that will remain standing for us to contemplate among the numberless words written by mere mortal men, is the Word of God.

Who is the Word of God?

It is His Son, Jesus the Christ, also know as the Messiah. There is only ONE Light, Life and Way. His Way is the Way of the Cross, culminating in the Resurrection from Death to Eternal Life, as He has shown.

There is only ONE book that is worth reading. Understanding it is a life-long challenge but it is filled with many rewards (Epiphanies).

True Self-Realization will only be reached by those who attain Christ-Realization. It is attained by nailing the Abominable Self on the Cross. There is NO other way. Any other path is Luciferian Deception and BS!

GodSend,

I. I have a problem with your ID ("GodSend"). I see pride there. Am I right?

II. I also have a problem with this statement: "There is only ONE book that is worth reading." I see narrow-mindedness there. Am I right?

III. I have a problem with this statement: "Who is the Word of God? It is His Son, Jesus the Christ, also know as the Messiah. There is only ONE Light, Life and Way." -Granted, this statement seems to follow logically from the idea that there is only one book worth reading. But if the premise is false, it goes without saying that the conclusion must be false too.

GodSend: Where was Christ before Jesus was born? -If God is eternal, His Word must be eternal too. Being eternal, His Word cannot be born, nor can It die. And certainly not on a cross! (Nor anywhere else, for that matter.)

IV. Whether you will admit it or not, you implicitly already have agreed to the truth of what I am saying to you by your talk about Christ-Realization ( and not "Jesus-Realization") ("True Self-Realization will only be reached by those who attain Christ-Realization.").

V. It seems to me that you are confused as to the two levels: Christ can't be nailed on a cross; physical beings can be; Jesus certainly was. Jesus realized the Christ, however, not by being nailed on a cross but by extending Unspeakable love in every word He said and every thing that He did. Combining Innocence and Strength, the Lamb and the Lion, He epitomized, symbolized the unshakable Peace of Christ. His greatest wish would be, if I am permitted to suggest it, that we try sincerely to do as He did. -That we extend the love that is within us to all living beings. Unconditionally, nonjudgmentally and totally without self-righteousness.

VI. The cross is not important, other than to teach us the encouraging lesson that the cross can be overcome. To speak about "the Abominable Self [being nailed] on the Cross" is a contradiction in terms. The Self -with uppercase 'S'- can NOT be "abominable", nor can it be nailed on a cross: The Self IS the Christ.

VII. "There is NO other way. Any other path is Luciferian Deception and BS!" -There are MANY ways. Right now there are approximately 6.6 billion ways. You seem to forget this. Too, you seem to not understand that the Infinite number and the One are not two different things. They are One and One only.

GodSend, we all have work to do on ourselves. This is our main task here. Missionary and misguided statements constitute a waste of precious time. Please, go back to square one and concentrate on the task at hand. I will go there with you.

OK, rj, I'm here and I'm looking at your comments.

I'm not sure this is the best place for your proposed discussion, but I'm prepared to take it as far as they will let us.

We need to keep the discussion focused on 1 piece of The Puzzle at a time. It will help immeasurably if you study my website and blog. Out of the 7 points you make, I'll start with the last one.

Implied in 'NO other way' is 'NO other correct way than through Christ' - that's what 'EXCEPT through Me' means. You might say that each individual is on his/her personal way to somewhere (death, for certain), but if they intend to reach Eternal Life in the presence of God (after this life), then they MUST go to the Cross of Christ (accept His sacrifice, which is the ONLY way to purify them to be able to exist in God's presence). Your point about ONE and INFINITE is just wordplay. God is Eternal (INFINITE). There is no other God, so He is ONE.

OK, so far?

-Not at all. You should deal with all of the seven points in one comment. Otherwise it would be nothing but "[seeing] through a glass, darkly".

Please understand that for there to be a true meeting of minds, there must be a wilingness from both sides to listen with an open mind. -If you see yourself as a guardian of Truth, or of some specific truth that is mentioned in some text, the required openness may be compromised. Please leave all texts behind and try thinking and reasoning in a spontaneous and natural way.

Now for #6.

The Cross of Christ is ALL-important for our personal Salvation. Christ suffered and died there, in obedience to God the Father, bearing the Sin of all humanity and absolving us of God's curse of death. His Resurrection and return in an immortal body signified the future of those redeemed by His purifying blood. Christ said: "Pick up your cross daily and follow Me". The cross of the followers of Christ is suffering in the temporal world (including possible death) for His Name's sake - defending the honor of God. SEE! "Levitical Ministry" on my blog for a more detailed explanation by T. Austin-Sparks of what the cross entails. Our Self is corrupted by sin. Denial of Self is the voluntary act of acknowledging our sinful nature and accepting the painful process of being purified by God's correction - you might call that 'Divine Tough Love'. Our true Self, when fully realized through God's purification, willingly, even gladly accepted, has a Christ-like nature. We retain our individual personality and identity and immortal body. The hallmark of that identity is returned Divine Love for our Creator and Christ (God). The Book of Life contains the names of all those who have accepted Christ as their personal Savior and who will reign on His Throne with Him as His sons and daughters. This is all Scriptural and can be verified, if you take the time.

Understanding this and other spiritual things requires direct Divine intervention through God's Grace. The things of God CANNOT be understood by mere intellectual capability. Many theologians and 'Doctors of Divinity' suffer from this crucial short-coming. Are you able to understand what I wrote above? If you can't, attacking these statements with temporal logic and reason is equivalent to "banging your head against a brick wall". Read T. Austin-Sparks' statement about how this works in the 'Introduction' to The Puzzle on my website - click on the Globe. TAS makes it VERY clear.

How are you doing so far? Still with me? If not, it's time to STOP because we will not be speaking the same (spiritual) language.

rj:

I think I detect a Freudian slip in your last comment. Thinking and reasoning in a 'natural way' is NOT what's required to learn to SEE! spiritual truths. What's required is spiritual insight, which is far above 'natural' reasoning. God said: "My thoughts are higher than your thoughts". His thoughts (and acts) are supernatural in the true sense of that word. Christ explained this very well when He talked about people who could not understand His messages - they had eyes but could not SEE and ears but could not HEAR. The TAS piece I referred you to is just a short paragraph, not a book. It's worth reading.

Try to avoid flinging phrases of Scripture around in a meaningless way - "seeing through a glass...". A favorite technique of the Devil is to try to cause confusion and obfuscate simple but profound spiritual truths. To expose someone like that, baby steps are required to unveil an agenda of confusion and make any progress, if possible. So, address the points I made as best you can and maybe we can move on. The objective here is not the meeting of 2 minds. The objective is to expose truths. And YES, there are a whole bunch of those which are not subject to change by open or closed minds. If truth be known, minds will be forced to adapt to them. When you start arguing with a spiritual truth, you have not (yet) obtained God's gift of spiritual understanding (being able to SEE!). Got it?

While I'm waiting, about #5.

God's Son is known by several names in different languages. Jesus, Yashua, Yahweh Yahushua, the Lamb, the Christ, the Holy One of Israel, the Anointed One, the Alpha and the Omega, the Son of Man, Yessu, I AM, etc., etc., etc. All of those names rolled into one is GOD. Jesus and 'the Christ' and all those other names describe the same Person. "I and the Father are ONE" applies. So, the Person of Jesus the Christ was nailed to the Cross.

There's more than a bit of confusion in #5. What Christ wants us to do is the same as He did: to OBEY the Father. He went to the Cross primarily out of Obedience, not because He loved sinners. The Cross cost Him agony which we may never fully understand - naturally or spiritually. Yes, God SO loved the world (us) that He sacrificed His only begotten Son to purify us with His shed blood. There is NO OTHER WAY (or He would have chosen it).

God is Love, Spirit, Light and Holy. That's a whole lot more than Love.

We don't begin to understand God's Love until we are humbled and crushed by our own inadequacy, by our own sinfulness by our own helplessness and by Christ's awesome readiness to endure the Cross and separation from His Father for our sake - even if it was only a temporary separation. THAT is the horrible fate awaiting anyone who rejects Christ's sacrifice: Eternal separation from God. You need spiritual understanding to have heart knowledge of the full significance of the Cross - and Resurrection from death.

There should be enough content here to keep you thinking (with an open heart) for a long time.

Striking while the iron is hot (#4):

Already covered in the answer to #5. Jesus and 'Christ' refer to the same Person.

SEEing the pre-eminence of Jesus the Christ in ALL things in Creation is 'Christ-Realization'. That's synonymous with 'Jesus-Realization' and 'Self-Realization'.

I'll deal with rj's 'Problems' (#1 to #3) in a future comment.

Apparently, rj has some 'Problems' (#1 - #3). He sees pride where there is no pride. He sees narrow-mindedness where there is none. He can't SEE! that Jesus IS the Word (and the Life and the Truth and the Way). He is totally confused about spiritual things because they can't be SEEn with temporal eyes.

So NO, rj, you are not right - you are wrong!

God said: "Who shall go for us? I said: Here am I; send me"

God has an open invitation to anyone who is willing to stand up for Jesus and deliver His messages to the lost. To volunteer to be a messenger for God (or ambassador for Christ) shows willingness to be of service in answer to God's calling - and to be abused and persecuted by the enemies of God (which are legion) in the process. "A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you."

A GodSend (any GodSend) is opening him or herself to attacks by the Devil and his followers. That is not a sign of pride - it's a sign of service and sacrifice.

To SEE! and focus on spiritual things (the things of God) is not narrow-mindedness - on the contrary. Compared with any other book, Holy Scripture (God's inspired word) IS the only one worth reading. That does not mean there are no other interesting and worthwhile books. It's a relative issue. There are enough books in the world to thoroughly confuse just about anyone. "God is not the author of confusion". The devil is the author of confusion - and many books that seek to confuse. There is no 'false premise' and there is no 'false conclusion' - except in your temporal mind!

Well, rj, here are my answers, for you and all to see - Oh, say - can you SEE!?

“GodSend”
Thank you for taking the time to explain the system you are using as your frame of reference. You said:

“The objective here is not the meeting of 2 minds. The objective is to expose truths.”

Firstly, truths are not exposed; lies are. More importantly, since the objective here, in your view, is not a meeting of minds, I do not understand why you wrote all that you did. I will be brief, knowing full well that as far as you are concerned, what I am saying may be rejected as so much confusion & darkness. But let me be clear about this: You certainly have not “exposed” any truths, as far as I can tell. On the contrary, you seem unable to “see” anything at all, even the simplest things.

Your understanding of the world and what is beyond it obviously is based upon a dualistic system. Your interpretation of it seems to be a pretty common amalgamation of the Old and New Testaments. On the surface of it, we again find the well-known fire & brimstone preached for centuries and hammered into our collective psyche:

“We don't begin to understand God's Love until we are humbled and crushed by our own inadequacy, by our own sinfulness by our own helplessness and by Christ's awesome readiness to endure the Cross and separation from His Father for our sake - even if it was only a temporary separation. THAT is the horrible fate awaiting anyone who rejects Christ's sacrifice: Eternal separation from God.”

This preaching obviously uses guilt and fear as its main tools to manipulate people into submission and dependency –not just upon a demanding, but distant God, but upon a multitude of interpreters – self-appointed (like yourself, “GodSend”) or priests, representing officialdom . The evil spirit hovering over this traditional exegesis is OT through-and-through: the vengeful & angry God that demands obedience, submission, sacrifice and repentance.

The system that I base myself upon, however, is different altogether. It is non-dual, and sees God as being Unspeakable Love, the only reality, and ‘fear’ as the ultimate principle that seemingly opposes Love. Fear, however, is an illusion, SO is the world. Only God (Love) is real.

Let me go on to dealing with your interpretation in some more detail. -You said:

“God said: "My thoughts are higher than your thoughts".”

This is precisely how you emerge from this motley parade of well-worn "truths": Your thoughts are higher than everyone else’s. You are basing your supposed authority on the following claim:

“God said: "Who shall go for us? I said: Here am I; send me".”

Based on this claim, you go on to saying:

““When you start arguing with a spiritual truth, you have not (yet) obtained God's gift of spiritual understanding (being able to SEE!). Got it?””

“GodSend”, this is more of the same -the same pugnacious arrogance that you have evinced from the beginning. You said that:

“"God is not the author of confusion". The devil is the author of confusion”.

Now, while this is true, in a sense, it is beside the point. The world itself is nothing BUT confusion. It never could be otherwise. You then go on to closing the door to any corrective and helpful thoughts, thoughts which you see as unwanted -as coming from the Devil:

“A GodSend (any GodSend) is opening him or herself to attacks by the Devil and his followers. That is not a sign of pride - it's a sign of service and sacrifice.”

My brother, this is sheer lunacy. As far as I can see, you are STILL seeing “through a glass, darkly”, like the rest of us. -But “Godsend”, of this I am certain: God is Unspeakable Love, the ONLY reality, and ‘fear’ is unreal. SO is the world.

Ending this comment, I will post here what I have said elsewhere on this site:

"GodSend", All the so-called Christians, yourself included, all the Zionists, the criminals, beggars, rich men, the stupid and the smart, men, women and children, all animals, flowers, even stones -they certainly all are my "brothers-in-Christ". It is not what they are, but what "I" am that counts. The love from my Self extends to human, animate & inanimate life unconditionally, for life is Life. If this is how I choose to see it, this then IS who I am -unconditional love. Then this IS what "they" are. I know about the weaknesses of human beings, my own included, but this is not the ultimate truth about them (or "me"). If they have temporarily forgotten the glorious truth about themselves, I must remember it for them, knowing full well that one day they will graciously accept it as the truth about themselves. We will meet there, in a place where time does not exist. But as long as my brothers in Christ believe that it does, we need ways & means. -So, we are only here to be helpful. To choose to see my brothers & sisters as Christ is the best possible help I can give them. This view may not seem to be warranted in time, but like I said, time is not real. Truth is. We will get there. In Reality, we are there already.”

Some of our readers will understand that the above quote in reality is a prayer.
