When you say you are going to be away for a couple of weeks, “have a nice holiday” is often the response. To explain that you are going to Gaza can meet with a blank look and even when you say Palestine this is confused with Pakistan. Maybe I am being hard but with a husband who has dedicated his later life to do all he can for the plight of Palestinians I feel, like him, that the Israel/Palestine “conflict” is at the heart of world peace and everyone should know about it.

Since Zionists hold the reigns on international political power through their influence in important positions as well as the military might to maintain their right to self-determination, any current political debate on the legitimacy of this concept would lead inevitably to a dismissal of what we have come to accept as the Palestinian right of self-determination.

To mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, nine foreign affairs "experts" offered their reflections in the New York Times on 16 March 2008 "on their attitudes in the spring of 2003 and … comment on the one aspect of the war that most surprised them or that they wished they had considered in the pre-war debate”.

Looking back, each of them did more to reveal their continuing blindness or to attempt to justify errors in their original judgment.
