Food, Fuel, and Fascism: Their Election or Your Life?

Carolyn Baker

After two years of managing the Truth To Power website and subsequent to many more years of researching domestic and geopolitical events and trends, it is chilling to witness so much of what "prophets" like Mike Ruppert, Matt Savinar, Catherine Austin Fitts, Richard Heinberg, Matt Simmons, Dmitry Orlov, myself, and many others have been forecasting for nearly a decade or longer. We are no longer prophets but truly historians, and yet I take no pleasure in the accuracy of these forecasts or in the fact that our dire predictions are unfolding before our eyes. When I use the word "chilling", I mean just that, while at the same time, I feel sorrow that so many are yet still so comatose to the reality of the cataclysm that is manifesting around them. While I feel fear and sadness for them, I have no energy now to expend on them. As most readers of this site know, my life is all about preparation and building community in order to navigate the inevitable.

These are the last hours on the deck of the Titanic, and the chamber orchestra is now playing "Nearer My God To Thee" as the ship continues to take on barrels of water per second, and all but one or two lifeboats have been filled to capacity and launched into the open seas of escape from the capsizing horror-and with no guarantees that they will survive. Throngs of the doomed are drowning in the steerage compartments below-those indigent, third-class, "racially impure" masses of humanity that the "first-class", who helped design the "unsinkable" vessel, kept locked away below the decks of obscene privilege and conspicuous consumption. Some say that economic depressions don't affect the poor because they are already poor, but I'm certain that a black mother in the projects who can now give her kids only two meals a day will become acutely aware, as will her children, when she can only give them one.

Yet, amid what is unfolding in front of us, I receive emails from readers who tell me that they are quite sure that somehow Obama is our hope and that if we just get the right leadership, things will turn around. I hear talk at the checkout counters of "all recessions eventually end" and "we just have to ride it out." I wonder what these individuals will be doing one year from now. I wonder how they will eat, where they will be living, what will get them up in the morning, and whether they'll be able to sleep at night. And as the hollow, trite, tired clichés assault my eardrums, I see and hear Richard Heinberg reporting soberly and assertively in "The End Of Suburbia" that we will soon enter "a recession that never ends." I also hear Matt Simmons telling us that oil is still too cheap, and I ponder his recent interview on CNBC forecasting $378 a barrel. I recall overhearing a man last summer saying, "Gasoline is now three dollars a gallon. What's happening to this world?" I wonder where the man is now; I wonder if he'll still be around for $378 a barrel.

This week in the Daily News Stories section of the Truth To Power website, a link was posted to the Channeliing Hubbert blogspot which noted that the father of the Peak Oil theory, M. King Hubbert, openly discussed the unsustainability of a high-growth economy with high-level officials of Chase Manhattan. Yet, "Instead, key individuals in government, think tanks, and corporations opted to use their influence and decision making capacity to forward a perpetual high-growth economy dependent on high-grade finite fossil fuels in the hopes that technology would make low-grade resources economic over time. They believed that speculative technological advances including coal to liquids, oil shale, breeder reactors, fusion, and enhanced oil recovery would become economic in the long run, thereby justifying the continuing growth of a consumerist suburban, car-oriented way of life and fueling the development of a highly industrial globalized system for the rest of the world."

In a 2004 article by Richard Heinberg published exclusively at From The Wilderness, he revealed a declassified document "The Impending Soviet Oil Crisis" from 1977, exposing the CIA's awareness of Peak Oil. According to Heinberg, "The real motives and long-term strategies of policy makers and intelligence gatherers alike will likely remain opaque to citizens who pay in blood and dollars for their government's military adventures. The Impending Soviet Oil Crisis gives us a rare, limited glimpse into the machinery of covert information analysis and decision-making that shape history as we live it."

Consider the administrations that have come and gone since 1977-all unwilling to tell the American people the truth about energy depletion. Consider the meaningless rhetoric of the current candidates who continue to delude us about Peak Oil and economic growth and consider the reality that they would not even be viable candidates if they were willing to expose the suicidal delusion of unlimited economic growth.

I understand how desperately many individuals would like to believe in a "savior" candidate who's going to make everything right. I recall how excited I was earlier in my life about the candidates that I was certain would turn everything around. I remember how angry I felt when I heard some cynic tell me that there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between any of them. Oh how I wanted-desperately wanted, to believe.

But only in America is the definition of insanity lived out with such oblivious impunity. Only in America do we continue to believe that "this time it will be different" in the face of all evidence to the contrary. Faith in any of the three leading candidates running for the presidency to have the capacity or desire to affect any significant change is nothing less than blatantly illogical and irrational.

In my recent article "Celebrating UN-President's Day: Why I Will Not Vote For A President In 2008" I laid out my case for not voting, but that was before I saw the latest documentary on election fraud, "Uncounted: The New Math Of American Elections". Anyone seriously considering voting for a president in 2008 must see this documentary as well as Bev Harris's 2006 HBO documentary "Hacking Democracy." You may, in fact, live in one of those rare areas where paper ballot voting still occurs, but "Uncounted" and "Hacking Democracy" reveal a rigged election system, so gargantuan, so blatant, and so foolproof that it is now safe to say that legitimate presidential elections in the United States are no longer possible. In other words, American elections no longer belong to you, but to those who manufacture the candidates and select the winners.

Moreover, in recent days Truth To Power has been covering the proposed purchase of the Diebold Corporation by United Technologies, a major U.S. weapons manufacturer and defense contractor. An analysis of the ramifications of this purchase, now put on hold as a result of UT's low bid, can be read at Catherine Austin Fitts's blogspot. Nevertheless, rocket science is not required in order to comprehend the significance of a major defense contractor having control of voting in America. Although the deal has not been consummated, Diebold is seeking a buyer and is likely to eventually sell its strategic position to a more powerful entity-the value of which is truly priceless because corporate control of elections represents the ultimate triumph of fascism in the United States.

In addition, no president, elected or selected in 2008, has the capacity to reverse the fascist trajectory of the republic launched by the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the myriad other ostensibly anti-terrorist measures resulting from either legislation or Executive Orders during the George W. Bush administration. In fact, all three leading candidates embrace the War on Terror and shamelessly behave as emissaries for the military industrial complex.

This week we've witnessed the overnight demise of Eliot Spitzer, so-called "sheriff of Wall Street" who vowed to bring the subprime mortgage mafia to justice. Many have speculated that Spitzer was targeted by the predators he was committed to investigating. But whether he is innocent or guilty, his fall is jaw-dropping in its significance: If Spitzer was set up, it confirms that politicians who are determined to operate transparently can no longer succeed in a system rotting with corruption; if he is guilty, then it becomes virtually impossible to trust any politician who pledges to function with integrity.

But one's abdication of critical thinking in the face of the U.S. election charade is neither the most disconnected or the most dangerous course of action. More deadly, in my opinion, is the failure to grasp the reality that not only the empire but civilization itself has entered a process of irreversible demise. This phenomenon is larger than the onset of a Second Great Depression. It's even larger and more momentous than the reality of a cartel of criminals who engineered a mortgage meltdown, the repercussions of which will be reverberating throughout the global economy indefinitely. As I have stated repeatedly, what is unfolding is absolutely unprecedented and is juxtaposed with the equally dire realities of climate chaos and Peak Oil. In their attempts to make sense of these momentous realities, New Age devotees tout the significance of 2012, and the Christian right insists that the rapture is imminent. Equally sychophantic are those who argue that while the current challenges are unprecedented, so is the technology which can alleviate them. Pervading all three groups is a profound disconnect from ecological, scientific, and human reality.

For example, Truth To Power has been consistently reporting appalling indicators of world famine and global water privatization by transnational corporations. Peak Oil, climate change, genetic modification, and the preposterous use of ethanol as an energy alternative have caused food prices to skyrocket as the food industry produces so-called "foods" that are devoid of nutrients and are dangerous for our health. Moreover, ethanol is increasing something besides food prices, namely vast dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico produced by ethanol-laden wastewater.

As the likelihood of famine escalates, as bankruptcies skyrocket and foreclosures surge beyond anything this nation has seen since the Great Depression, as unemployment becomes epidemic, as the dollar daily sets records for loss in value, as banks fail, as the price of oil flies off the charts, I can only marvel that anyone in the United States has the slightest interest whatsoever in a presidential election. My mind reels but recalls the terrified and traumatized passengers on the decks of the Titanic, hallucinating and in shock. Although we may be overwhelmed passengers on a sinking ship, there are lifeboats. This is not quite the same Titanic; we have options. So why would anyone re-arrange the deck chairs by putting any faith in a presidential candidate?

No doubt there are many reasons, but if you are one of those who hopes that one of the three corporately bought-and-sold candidates will save you, I have to ask you if you are storing food, and if not, why not? Readers of this site know well that the Survival Acres and Life After The Oil Crash websites carry extensive inventories of storable food items and other products for collapse preparedness, and within the past week, Sharon Astyk's wonderful article "Food Storage 101" was posted on this site. So I must also ask what you are doing to prepare yourself and your loved ones for living in a world of famine, thirst, lawlessness, lack of health care, a worthless dollar, and possible martial law. How are you building community with others to weather this scenario?

In a nutshell, there are three realities that every reader of these words must prepare to deal with: Food, fuel, and fascism.

Truth To Power has reported exhaustively on all three of these realities for as long as the site has existed. No candidate running for president has the slightest interest in talking rationally or honestly about these issues with the American people, but all three would be delighted to take action to lock down the nation, ration food and fuel, and continue empire's quest for the last drops of oil on the planet by any means necessary.

So I won't leave you with my advice but rather ask you a number of questions. My questions to you, dear reader, are these: What are you doing to prepare for the "Three F's"? What keeps you hooked to the U.S. election charade, even when a part of you knows it is a charade? Why do you choose to put your energy there rather than putting it into survival? What do you fear would happen if you let go of your "hope" and stopped trusting an electoral process manufactured from start to finish by empire? What might happen if you stopped engaging in that process and started focusing instead on creating options?

How is it that you choose to become embroiled in their election rather than preserving your life?

Good article.

I agree with you on the futility of elections at this point, and the sinister intentions of the powers that be. They may believe they are doing evil to accomplish good (the end justifies the means), but then Hitler may have as well. Most of us were asleep at the wheel, and many do not want to wake up, so you can guess what happens (maybe we run out of gas?).

I beg to differ on Peak Oil. It should be renamed Peak Production, by design, not due to inadequate oil supplies.

Ten years ago oil was at 13 dollars a barrel. Last June it was 65 dollars a barrel. Today it is 111. Think maybe the Dubai Mercantile Exchange set up by NYMEX last June might have a little something to do with this? Hard for the SEC to look into this of course. Wink Wink.

The figures everyone use to show we are running out of oil are proven reserves. Our proven reserves are 22.4 billion barrels, not much, but only 10 billion less than 60 years ago, and 10 billion more than 75 years ago. How does this happen? Because US Oil companies have tax incentives not to increase their proven reserves in the US. All told, we are estimated to have 180.4 billion barrels of oil in the US, almost 9 times proven reserves. In 1973, World Oil reserves were 650 billion barrels, today they are 1.3 trillion. Doubled since the last peak oil hoax. The US domestic production of oil was actually higher in 2005 than 1955 when Hubble first talked about Peak Oil. Hubble of course worked for Big Oil.

Much of our imported oil comes from Canada and Mexico, and most from non-Mid East sources. Saudi Arabia has never sold oil at market prices, we have no idea what kind of a deal we get from them, and our oil companies have deals with many of the state owned oil companies in other countries from which we get oil. The oil profits then get laundered in the tax havens, while we pay top dollar at the pump. Imports of oil are more profitable for this reason than domestic production, since domestic oil it is fully taxed.

A huge source of new supply comes from the oil sands in Canada which were not profitable at 30 dollars a barrel. Oil from oil sands is profitable at 65 dollars a barrel, and very profitable at 107 dollars a barrel, and our Oil companies have significant stakes in these projects. Canada has an estimated 300 billion of potentially recoverable oil sands, and production is expected to increase to 2.8 mbd from by 2015 from 1.2 mbd in 2006 (we import 1.8 mbd from Canada today, about 99% of it's exports). North America holds 80% of the worlds recoverable Oil Sands, and Canada's oil sands account for 14% of the Worlds Oil reserves (technically recoverable at post 2003 prices).

Iraq may have even more oil than Saudi Arabia, and it's production capacity is way below it's theoretical maximum. They have been too busy fighting wars and being sanctioned and occupied to have done much drilling and pumping the last 30 years. You know US Big Oil is going to get a good deal there when production is given the green light. This will require we stay in Iraq indefinitely to be Big Oils security guards.

Some scientists believe oil is constantly replenished, and there is almost a perpetual supply of oil and natural gas in the subterranean regions of the earth. Russia tested that theory and struck pay dirt, and today is the second largest oil producer in the world today. What worried Big Oil and government in the 1970's was not a shortage of Oil, it was too much oil. Oil is essential to control the people and other nations, and this could be done only if it was in short supply and required our dollars to buy it (petrodollars), and also if there were no alternatives (so we discredited nuclear power with TMI on FEMA's first day of operation, and discouraged nuclear power over the non-threat of nuclear proliferation) .

Peak oil is a scam to create artificial scarcity and drive prices up to lower living standards. Production capacity is peaking, but not because we are running out of oil, but due to our reducing capacity to produce relative to demand. Alternative fuel technologies which have been around for decades are intentionally suppressed. If there really were a shortage, you could bet we would have the equivalent of a Manhattan Project underway. Instead, we create another hoax with ethanol from corn, which helps drive up prices for food, and creates food shortages and further lowering the worlds living standards, a double plus.

Global Warming is another myth to reduce consumption and therefore the worlds standard of living. Environmentalism is funded by Big Oil and the Globalists as it gave them an excuse to stop looking for more oil and not building new refineries which help raise prices.

Most scientists are utterly dependent on grants from government and the tax free foundation who are behind the globalization movement, so thye are easily influenced. They are cooperating with the globalists out of necessity. Do not blame them.

http://oldthinkernews.com/Articles/oldthinker%20news/global_warming_hysteria_serves_a.htm

" In a report titled "The First Global Revolution" (1991) published by the Club of Rome, a globalist think tank, we find the following statement: "In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill.... All these dangers are caused by human intervention... The real enemy, then, is humanity itself."

snip

Richard Haass, the current president of the Council on Foreign Relations, stated in his article "State sovereignty must be altered in globalized era," that a system of world government must be created and sovereignty eliminated in order to fight global warming, as well as terrorism. "Moreover, states must be prepared to cede some sovereignty to world bodies if the international system is to function," says Haass. "Globalization thus implies that sovereignty is not only becoming weaker in reality, but that it needs to become weaker. States would be wise to weaken sovereignty in order to protect themselves..."

snip

"Gordon Brown, {Prime Minister of the UK}, stated .... that a 'new world order' must be created in order to combat global warming."

So thats the motive.

Mars is showing signs of global warming, its polar ice caps are melting, Last I checked, they do not have man made greenhouse gasses, unless our little mars probes have gas. Solar radiation has been increasing for 100 years. Man made CO2 accounts for 3% of the worlds entire atmospheric CO2. Nobody knows for sure, one way or another, but when you follow the money, you find the globalists are behind the movement.

So Peak Oil, Global warming, the GWOT on terror, all are HOAXES by the same people who are globalizing you and lowering your standard of living. The left focuses on Green, the Right on Terror, and both sell Peak Oil. The elite on the left and the right are on the same side.

Big Oil and the Globalists follow the Rothschild formula and fund both sides of the various wars. Divide and Rule baby. Our Globalists are Anglo-Dutch-American-Zionists so have learned the lessons of th British Empire, which lives on as the American Empire, as we seem likely to be a crypto-Commonwealth nation.

So our fate is pretty much sealed, technology is such that any dissent would be crushed easily. The leaders of any movement would be Spitzerized, and if there would be a larger movement, the Halliburton concentration camps will come in handy. It is doubtful there will be another tea party.

I do wonder at what will come and how we got to this point. Some clues come from the Report from Iron Mountain in the 60's which concluded that;

"War fills certain functions essential to the stability of our
society; until other ways of filling them are developed, the war system must be maintained -- and improved in effectiveness."

http://www.projectcamelot.org/Report_from_Iron_Mountain.pdf

The report was only a sign that there was an awareness of a need to transition from a 1/2 century of devastating wars to something more "peaceful", which will still allow for the desired ending (One World Government). Yet from the report comes some useful insight on their thinking.

A "The most important [benefits] of [war], for social purposes, is
the individual psychological rationale for allegiance to a society and its values. Allegiance requires a cause; a cause requires an enemy. This much is obvious; the critical point is that the enemy that defines the cause must seem genuinely formidable."

B "The remoteness of personal decision from social consequence in a modern society makes it easy for its members to maintain this attitude without being aware of it. A recent example is the war in Vietnam; a less recent one was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In each case, the extent and gratuitousness of the slaughter were abstracted into political formulae by most Americans, once the proposition that the victims were "enemies" was established."

C "The existence of an accepted external menace, then, is essential to social cohesiveness as well as to the acceptance of political authority. The menace must be believable, it must be of a magnitude consistent with the complexity of the society threatened, and it must appear, at least, to affect the entire society."

D "Men, like all other animals, is subject to the continuing process of adapting to the limitations of his environment. But the principal mechanism he has utilized for this purpose is unique among living creatures. To forestall the inevitable historical cycles of inadequate food supply, post-Neolithic man destroys surplus members of his own species by organized warfare."

E "War as a general social release. This is a psychosocial function, serving the same purpose for a society as do the holiday, the celebration, and the orgy for the individual---the release and redistribution of undifferentiated tensions. War provides for the periodic necessary readjustment of standards of social behavior (the "moral climate") and for the dissipation of general boredom, one of the most consistently undervalued and unrecognized of social phenomena."

But they recognized that wars were costly and destroyed those whose genes were best preserved to improve the future gene pool.

So they suggested as possible substitutes for war:

"ECONOMIC. a) A comprehensive social-welfare program, directed toward
maximum improvement of general conditions of human life. b) A giant openend
space research program, aimed at unreachable targets. c) A permanent,
ritualized, ultra-elaborate disarmament inspection system, and variants of such a system.

POLITICAL a) An omnipresent, virtually omnipotent international police force. b) An established and recognized extraterrestrial menace. c) Massive global environmental pollution. d) Fictitious alternate enemies.

SOCIOLOGICAL: CONTROL FUNCTION. a) Programs generally derived from
the Peace Corps model. b) A modern, sophisticated form of slavery.

MOTIVATIONAL FUNCTION. a) Intensified environmental pollution. b) New
religions or other mythologies. c) Socially oriented blood games. d)
Combination forms.

ECOLOGICAL. A comprehensive program of applied eugenics.

MOTIVATIONAL FUNCTION. a) Intensified environmental pollutionb) New
religions or other mythologies. c) Socially oriented blood games. d)
Combination forms.

CULTURAL. No replacement institution offered.

SCIENTIFIC. The secondary requirements of the space research, social welfare, and / or eugenics programs."

I believe the thesis of perpetual war with the anti-thesis of perpetual peace has synthesized to an Orwellian War=Peace state we seem to be in. War today is not really War as it was defined at the time of this report. Today, our "wars" are just a slaughter of the "enemy" with sophisticated weapons against those who are just relatively defensive targets (Iraq, Afhghanistan)or a fight against a demon (terrorists, drugs, poverty, hunger, organized crime, all of which are/were our creations). In this type of War, which is voluntarily fought w/o forced conscription and does not cause great loss of our lives or property, we can have a sort of Peace at home, but without economic prosperity and improved general welfare. They have created a sophisticated form of modern slavery as people live pay check to pay check, and those who do not work under the age of 65 will be not able to afford health care, a sort crypto eugenics, and of course, we are all under Big Bother surveillance.

To summarize, what seems to have evolved is as follows:

ECONOMIC -neo liberal, free trade, free market economics (essential fascism)

POLITICAL a) An omnipresent, virtually omnipotent international police force combatting Terrorism (Homegrown and Islamic Extremists, and as Kissinger supposedly said in the 2007 Bilderberger meeting, "In America we consider those against gloalization to be the terrorists" ).

SOCIOLOGICAL: CONTROL FUNCTION. b) A modern, sophisticated form of slavery
(economic slavery due to lower standard of living and living from pay check to pay check)

ECOLOGICAL. A comprehensive program of applied eugenics. (Vaccines that sterilize and spread disease, engineered diseases (HIV) spread by vaccines, sterilizations-abortions, GMO food and drugs that reduce fertility and may harm health, nano-foods-unkown, and suppression of longevity by denying or making health care unaffordable)

MOTIVATIONAL FUNCTION. a) Intensified environmental pollution (Global warming) and Fear, of Terrorism

CULTURAL. Christian Right values, Islam as a cultural enemy

SCIENTIFIC. Technology for Eugenics programs and Homeland Security.

Indeed, it was a synthesis of War and Peace. War = Peace.

I believe this was indeed a government sponsored report (published 1966) although some suggested it was fictional satire, yet it seems prophetic (as was 1984). If it was a government report, then some later study was likely conducted as per their recommendations, and may be the basis for the plan being implemented by those Trilateral Commission (formed 1973) members who took control of government starting with Jimmy Carter (1977). Plans evolve of course, so todays plan might look quite different than what was in place 30 years ago, or it might not be so different.

Of course, any plan is a Global one and this might still evolve, who knows, maybe our next enemy will be ET and UFO's once we are Globalized, and any remaining depopulation will be done by our satellite weapons and blamed on the Alien Terrorists.

Hopefully their is a parallel universe where we went about Globalization, a concept I agree with, in a different and more transparent fashion, if it did not lead to serfdom for 99% of the population. The course we are on in this Universe is not reversible, and will likely end badly for most folks. But even in the worst governments, and I have lived in Totalitarian communist countries, under martial law, and in a country under colonial rule, those who play the game and do not make noise can live a good life if the leadership is competent and not run by mad men, and if there is no significant resistance. So this maybe all that can be hoped for in the future.
