On Sept. 8, 2008, a symposium entitled, “The US Healthcare System in Crisis: Achieving Universal Coverage,” was held at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in Baltimore, MD. One of the speakers was Mary Newman, M.D. FACP. She is the Governor, Maryland Chapter American College of Physicians, Vice-Chair of the Medical Service Committee ACP. Dr. Newman said: “Every person should have [health care] coverage.” She underscored that a recent study showed that about “59 percent of physicians” in the U.S. support “universal health care.” The event was the initiative of the Students Promoting Healthcare Reform (SPHERE), and was cosponsored by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, among other groups and institutions.
