S.Ossetia Says Georgians Killed 1600 People in Assault

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier Thursday called on Moscow to allow an international probe into Russian allegations of abuses by the Georgian military in South Ossetia. "(Moscow) alleges that that there atrocities were meted out on the South Ossetian population. Russia or South Ossetia must document whether this is the case and to what extent," Steinmeier told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung daily. Russia Today: War victims remembered in South Ossetia: Memorial services are being held across South Ossetia to commemorate those who perished during the recent hostilities with Georgia. The day of mourning coincides with a traditional religious holiday on which Ossetians remember their dead.
