The American Dream

By: Mike Palecek

Michael M works in a group home in the small town of Homeland in Middle America. He’s an average man who graduated from Homeland Senior High School, married a Homeland girl and had Homeland kids. M wants nothing more than to win the drawing for The Home Helper Show so he can get a new kitchen and maybe a pool. An improbable accident lands him in jail as the ringleader of terrorist activities in Homeland. He’s clueless about the whole thing, believing what he’s told, believing what he wants to believe. M is just like us. Homeland is what America could become. It’s absurd and shocking, but even when it’s totally unbelievable it’s just close enough to be terrifying.

CWG Press is proud to announce the February 2007 publication of a new novel by one of the best political satirists writing today. Mike Palecek has written The American Dream. He’ll be taking it on the road this spring; check our website for details of his book tour. www.cwgpress.com

"It has been many years since I picked up a book and didn't put it down till I finished it. Mike Palecek's "The American Dream" smacks you right between the eyes with every turn of the page. This book tells the God-awful truth that none of us wants to accept." — Guy James http://www.theguyjamesshow.com

"No more than a few degrees from what currently passes for reality, 'The American Dream' is a societal vision that hits too close to home(land) to be called a futuristic satire. Channeling both Orwell and Bill Hicks, Mike Palecek has created more than a powerful and engaging novel; he has let loose a global wake-up call." — Mickey Z http://www.mickeyz.net

Review of "The American Dream" by Marie Jones

"Palecek is fearless, skewering religious extremism, political right wing fundamentalism, gung-ho patriotism and the use of fear to play upon the innocent...and ignorant. And it works. I finished the book in one night...but it's been in my brain ever since, like a song that won't go away...haunting." http://www.bookideas.com/reviews/index.cfm?fuseaction=displayReview&id=3767
