Tyranny’s Ugly Face in Turkey

July 19th, 2016

Friday’s coup appeared state-sponsored, a vehicle to roust out political, military and other regime opponents - long knives unleashed against them with a vengeance.

The toll keeps mounting - scores, maybe hundreds, killed, countless numbers injured, massive numbers of arrests made.

According to prime minister Binali Yildirim, 7,500 were rounded up, arrested and detained so far, more likely coming - witch-hunt charges to follow, guilt by accusation automatic.

Victims include 6,000 military officers and lower-ranking personnel, 755 judges, 650 civilians and 100 police.

As of Tuesday, “2,725 criminal cases were launched against coup participants,” said Yildirim. Turkish media reported 8,777 interior ministry suspensions, including police, gendarmerie officers, provincial and district governors.

Retaliation on this scale so swiftly suggests a well-planned operation in advance, individuals targeted for arrest designated beforehand, things executed with military precision following Erdogan’s likely false flag.

How much more to come remains to be seen. Washington and Brussels support, or at least tolerate, his high crimes. Geopolitical priorities override law and order.

Turkey is a valued US-dominated NATO member, a key part of Washington’s rogue agenda, involved in regional imperial wars.

John Kerry indicated where America stands - “squarely on the side of the elected leadership in Turkey,” he said, meaning despotic Erdogan rule is OK with Washington.

Instead of condemning his false flag coup and retaliatory long knives reign of terror, Kerry shamelessly “(u)rged (him) to uphold the highest standards of respect for the nation’s democratic institutions and the rule of law.”

Perhaps thousands more will be victimized before his rampaging ends, tyranny triumphing over justice.
