Establishment Defender David Brooks

Stephen Lendman

He makes painful reading, nonsense instead of good sense, rubbish unfit to print, one of many examples of the deplorable state of today’s major media.

If mainstream journalists like Brooks did their jobs responsibly, we’d have vital long overdue revolutionary change in America - instead of government of, by, and for its privileged few alone.

Each electoral season highlights the crisis. Voters want what no duopoly party candidates represent at all levels of government.Americans paying attention, knowledgeable about US history, know campaign promises are made to be broken.

Their choices are among varying shades of evil, Hillary Clinton the most ruthlessly dangerous of a deplorable array of aspirants - not a true populist democrat in the bunch, only pretenders.

Brooks’ latest column headlined “How to Fix Politics” shows him entirely out of touch with reality.

Instead of addressing a vitally important issue, he ducked it with comments even an intelligent adolescent would debunk, saying:

“The next president could get together with the leaders of both parties in Congress and say: ‘We’re going to change the way we do business in Washington.”

“We’re going to deliberate and negotiate. We’ll disagree and wrangle, but we will not treat this as good-versus-evil blood sport.’ That kind of leadership might trickle down.”

America hasn’t changed how it does “business” since its founders decided only the rich, well-born and able had rights. Blacks were commodities, not people.

Women were homemakers, child-bearers and appendages of their husbands. They couldn’t vote until the 1920 19th Amendment ended enfranchisement based on gender.

Wage slavery replaced its chattel antecedent. Pay equity has a long way to go. Women earn about two-thirds of male pay for the same jobs.

Brooks claims “political dysfunction (roots) lie deep in society.” Improving things requires “social context” change.

He suppressed reality, ignored what’s most important - one-party duopoly rule, two wings in lockstep on all issues mattering most, independents shut out - a money controlled system too debauched to fix, voters having no say on how America is run at the federal, state and local levels.

Democracy in America is pure fantasy. None whatever exists. Instead of explaining it, Brooks and others like him turn reality on its head.

They support a corrupt system, claiming it only needs tinkering around the edges to improve instead of demanding grassroots revolutionary change. Nothing else can work.
