Scores of police brutality cases prompt federal investigations

August 11th, 2011

Fatal police shootings and beatings, and allegations of torture to coerce confessions have lead the U.S. Department of Justice to launch investigations into local law enforcement across the country. There were 52 criminal civil rights cases brought against law enforcement officers by the Justice Department last year, the highest amount of cases in since the agency began keeping record in 2000. The police are the repression arm of the government. They are simply carrying out public policy. Thousands of people die each year in America at the hands of the police or while in police custody. Only a few cases video recorded on cell phones have resulted in mild disciplinary action. The police have responded by passing laws making it a serious crime to record their murders and beatings so they can brutalize the public in total safety and anonymity. http://www.rawstory.com/rawreplay/2011/08/scores-of-police-brutality-cases-prompt-federal-investigation/
