At least five people were killed Saturday when missiles from an unmanned US aircraft hit a suspected militant compound in Pakistan's northwest tribal belt, security officials said. The missiles struck a house in Saidgi village of North Waziristan tribal district, which borders Afghanistan, "officials" said. An investigation into an overnight Israel Defense Forces operation in the West Bank city of Nablus early Saturday suggests that Israeli soldiers may have executed two of the three Palestinian militants who were killed, the left wing rights group B'Tselem said Saturday.

According to B'Tselem, in two of the three cases the troops behaved as if they were preparing for an execution, not an arrest. Relatives and eyewitnesses told B'Tselem that the two were unarmed and did not attempt to flee, and that the soldiers weren't trying to stop them, but rather shot them from close range once their identity was revealed. There were no witnesses to the shooting of the third man.

British lawmaker and anti-war activist George Galloway says Egypt is using bureaucracy as a pretext to impede humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Galloway and 449 other human rights activists who are part of the Viva Palestina aid convoy are currently stuck in Jordan, since Cairo has denied them permission to Egypt via the Red Sea. The Yemeni government killed at least 30 people today in an attack on what they referred to as a “suspected al-Qaeda site” but was later revealed to be the home of US-born cleric Anwar al-Aulaqi. Israel plans to demolish 900 Palestinian houses in Jerusalem, a Palestinian official warned on Wednesday. "The plan was given to a private firm to demolish the houses and building housing units and settlements in the Old City in Jerusalem," said Hatem Abdul-Qader, Jerusalem affairs' commissioner in President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party. An Israeli Knesset member says there is evidence showing that deceased Palestinians were stripped bare of their vital organs while in police custody in Tel Aviv. Palestinian security agents have been torturing supporters of the Hamas movement in their custody in the West Bank in cooperation with the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a report says. Outrage over Tzipi Livni's arrest warrant would be better directed to the suffering of Gaza and the risks of a new eruption. When evidence of war crimes is produced, you might expect states that claim to defend the rule of law to want those crimes investigated and the perpetrators held to account. Not a bit of it. The recent arrest warrant issued in London for former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is more than justified. This woman, along with two other Israeli leaders, Ehud Olmert and Ehud Barak, stood at the helm of the Israeli government that ordered, supervised and charted the genocidal onslaught against the Gaza Strip this time last year. She was a chief participant in the decision-making process who also supervised the progress of the hideous massacre from the beginning to the end. Egyptian officials yesterday confirmed that Cairo is covertly constructing an underground steel barrier along the border with Gaza to cut smuggling into the Strip. They contradicted a report in the Cairo daily Al-Shorouk quoting an unidentified source who said, “Egypt is dealing with smuggling seriously and is capable of stopping it without [a] wall.” When completed in 18 months’ time, the impenetrable and indestructible wall will be 10-11km in length and will extend 18-30m below the surface along the 13km-long border. Four kilometres have, reportedly, been completed north of the town of Rafah, which is bisected by the border that also divides Palestinian families – many of whom are involved in the illegal cross-border trade.

In 1958, then-foreign minister Golda Meir raised the possibility of preventing handicapped and sick Polish Jews from immigrating to Israel, a recently discovered Foreign Ministry document has revealed. Rudnicki's study, undertaken together with Israeli scholars headed by Prof. Marcos Silber of the University of Haifa, has already been published in a book in Polish. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Israel of strong reaction should the regime violate his country's airspace in an attempt to spy on Iran. Israel demolished 14 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem Al-Quds last month as part of Tel Aviv's Judaization campaign targeting the holy city. The fact that the Hebron Fund likely raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for extremist Israeli settlers at a major US venue with little public scrutiny is a troubling sign for those who hope that the US can play a constructive role in achieving a just peace in the Middle East. Perhaps more worryingly, according to Washington Post columnist David Ignatius: "A search of IRS records identified 28 US charitable groups that made a total of $33.4m in tax-exempt contributions to settlements and related organisations between 2004 and 2007." Some of the larger organisations, including Friends of the Ateret Cohanim and Friends of Ir David, both leading the Jewish settler takeover of Palestinian East Jerusalem, are based in New York City.

Maddow talks about this "secret" war. -Why, this war is no secret! We've known about it for a long time. Least of all is it a "secret" to the Pakistanis. The better part of Pakistan's population of 200,800,000 know full well what nations it is, whose troops & airplanes are killing them by the droves. Many people in other parts of the world know it too. -Only thing is, to the Americans, this ongoing US killing spree seems to have been "secret". -Just like when Henry Kissinger ordered a “secret bombing”, extending the war in Vietnam into Cambodia in the early 1970s...As a Doonesbury cartoon long ago noted about Nixon's secret bombing of Cambodia, the secret was kept from the Congress and the American people -- not the Cambodians:

"They weren't secret. 'Look, Martha, here come the bombs,' I said."
"That's right. He did."
