Microsoft to buy Skype in $8.5bn deal

Software giant Microsoft plans to acquire Skype, the online video conferencing service for $8.5bn, both companies have announced. "Together we will create the future of real-time communications so people can easily stay connected to family, friends, clients and colleagues anywhere in the world," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft chief executive, said on Tuesday.
