Recently, in a mainstream newspaper, an educational consultant confessed to an agenda of attacking the psyche of young males. Referring to school textbooks for Grades 7-10, (ages 12-15) he said: "If you had a picture of a person doing something positive, winning a race, performing an experiment successfully, etc., [you had to] make sure it was of a girl," he said. "If you had to have a picture of someone doing a bad thing - bullying, making a mistake, being unsure which course of action to take, etc. - the image was invariably of a boy."

Overseas workers provide much-needed funds, but some suffer abuse from their employers. Almost 15 per cent of the Philippines' adult population, about eight million people, live and work overseas. The money they earn is vital to the economy, last year more than $17bn dollars was sent back in remittances. But the cost proves to be too high for some of the migrant workers that find themselves suffering the abuse at the hands of their employers.
