Wall Street has raised its voice against any government moratorium on foreclosures, even as evidence mounts that banks systematically and illegally falsified documents in order to expedite hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of foreclosures. Documented examples of abuse include banks hiring contractors and what one Goldman Sachs executive referred to as “Burger King kids” to process thousands of foreclosure documents per week, all the while declaring to courts they were familiar with the cases. Lenders also falsified signatures, notary stamps, and tossed legal documents into the garbage. Every major bank is implicated in the widening scandal.

Dr. Christopher Busby, a world famous UK based physicist, was at the UN last week with the results of his health survey of the city of Fallujah, Iraq. The results were truly astonishing, even to the jaded eyes of UN representatives, old retired war fighters and politically connected bureaucrats. No armed force had accomplished this level of death and disease in a civilian population before. What Weapons Can Do That? There it was in black and white, on paper, from an internationally respected physicist - the utterly unbelievable, but certified results: Fallujah’s leukemia rate was 38 times higher than Hiroshima after the US Atomic Bombing in 1945. New methods in the analysis of DNA means that people wrongfully jailed are now being proved innocent. Hundreds of inmates in prisons across the US have been exonerated and freed because of DNA evidence that proved their innocence. And 48 states now give inmates some degree of access to DNA evidence that might not have been available at the time of their convictions. But other 'science' that puts thousands behind bars is also coming under scrutiny. Much of what was regarded as unassailable – hair analysis, arson investigation conclusions, eye-witness identification – is now being seen as fallible.

At 30, Mexican activist América del Valle knows loneliness all too well: she spent four years in hiding, out of contact with friends and family, her only goal being to "endure" the government's persecution of her family. "Exile has so many dimensions, and there is no manual for it," she told IPS recently in an interview during a family party in San Salvador Atenco, in a room provided by a cousin. "My closest neighbours were nostalgia, sadness and a feeling of defeat that constantly pursued me," she said.

The French government on Friday ordered CRS riot police to disperse workers occupying the strategic Fos-Lavéra oil depot near Marseille. Similar attacks were carried out at depots in Cournon d’Auvergne in central France and Ambès on the southwestern coast. Port, transport and energy workers, joined by high school students around the country, are striking to oppose the deeply unpopular austerity policies of President Nicolas Sarkozy.
